Spike Half Double Crochet

We already showed you how to crochet half double crochet stitches (UK: half treble crochet) in one of our earlier tutorials. Now we’ll explain how to crochet spike half double crochet stitches. Spike stitches aren’t worked into the stitch of the previous round; instead, you insert your hook between the posts of the stitches in the round/row specified in the pattern.

Before inserting your hook, yarn over once so you already have 2 loops on the hook.

Then insert your hook into the next stitch in the round/row specified in the pattern, pull up a loop, and draw it upward.

Important: Make sure the loops don’t cross over each other.

You now have 3 loops on the crochet hook. Yarn over again and pull the yarn through all 3 loops.
