First, yarn over once and insert your hook from back to front, right next to the stitch post.

Next, guide the hook across the front of the post and, in the same motion, insert it into the space on the other side of the post, pushing it toward the back. Now, pull up a loop.

In the next step, yarn over and pull the working yarn through all 3 loops on your hook.

For regular double crochet stitches (UK: treble), you would instead first pull the working yarn through 2 of the 3 loops on your hook, and then pull through the last two. That's it!
