Single Crochet

Single crochet (UK: double crochet) is one of the absolute basics of crochet. We’ll show you how to do it.

To make a single crochet, insert your crochet hook into the next stitch and pull the yarn through.

Important: At this point, it’s very important that 2 loops of the stitch are above the hook and 1 loop is below the hook.

As you can see in the picture, you now have 2 loops on the hook. Now pick up the yarn again with the hook (yarn over) and pull it through both loops. Your 1st single crochet is done!

Next, insert the hook into the next stitch and pull the yarn through again. This leaves you with 2 loops on the hook. Now yarn over and pull the yarn through both loops again. That’s it.
