Spike Double Crochet
Want to learn how to crochet a spike double crochet (UK: spike treble crochet)? No problem—here we’ll show you how it works. Spike stitches are not worked into the stitch of the previous round, but between the posts of the stitches in the round/row specified in the pattern.

Before inserting your hook, wrap the yarn around the hook once (make 1 yarn over). Now insert your hook into the next stitch in the specified round/row, pull the yarn through, and pull it up.
Important: Make sure that the strands don’t cross.
You now have 3 loops on the crochet hook.

Next, yarn over again and pull it through the first two loops on the hook. You now have 2 loops on your crochet hook.

Important: For the spike stitch, leave 1 stitch in the top row/round unworked.
Now yarn over again and pull it through the last two loops still on the hook.

Your first spike double crochet is done! From here on, just repeat the steps.
