Shell Stitch with Different Stitch Types
Just as a shell can consist of a varying number of stitches, it can also be made up of different stitch types, with all stitches always worked into a single stitch (the same base stitch).
In the picture, you can see a shell made of:

one half double crochet (UK: half treble),

one double crochet (UK: treble),

two treble crochets (UK: double treble),

one double crochet and one half double crochet
All of them are worked into the exact same stitch.
