The Double Chain Foundation

Want to learn how to crochet the double chain foundation? In the tutorial below, we’ll show you step by step how to do it.

First, make 2 chain stitches after your starting loop (slip knot) and turn the slip knot slightly upward.

Next, insert your hook into the 1st chain stitch. Important: Make sure there are 2 strands above the hook and 1 strand below the hook.

Now you can see the two strands that you just picked up on your hook.

Now pull the working yarn through to bring up a loop, yarn over, and pull through both loops on the hook.

From now on, always insert your hook into the left loop (making sure there are 2 strands above the hook!) and then work single crochet stitches (UK: double crochet).

A quick tip: It's easier if you slightly twist the piece upward while you work!

Continue working single crochet stitches into the left loops. The double chain foundation will start to curl up a little. All done!
