Yeah, I’ve done that before too, Inge—with an undershirt. I used that pattern to sew an undershirt out of a T-shirt. It worked great.

My daughter-in-law gave me the task of lengthening the sleeves on her favorite alpaca sweater. In a blog article, I showed and explained how I solved this task and everything I had to consider along the way.

I love sock yarn for almost any type of clothing, including children’s clothes. It has a high wool content, is quite durable, and washes well—which is a big plus for kids’ clothes.

I also love the beautiful color gradients, which look completely different on clothing than they do on socks. Knitting with hand-dyed sock yarn is a particularly special experience because you never know what the final result will look like until it’s finished.

Oh, Inge, so you two got together on my birthday. Wonderful!

We’d been together for a month and were already living together. It was the best decision of my life—and it always will be.

I’d also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations (once again) to Inge, as well as to Andrea and Claudia. It’s really something that all three of you have your wedding anniversaries on the same day. For us, it’s July 24—that’s when we’ll have been together for 36 years, 32 of them married. The best time of my life!

I’m so happy for you—I can totally imagine how you felt.

I just took apart an old bustier and am going to use the pattern to sew a new one from a scrap of fabric. I’ve already cut out the pieces.

I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Right now, I’m working on a unique knitting project. My daughter-in-law bought a secondhand alpaca sweater that’s a little too short in the sleeves. So I’m currently figuring out how to knit the cuffs and what yarn to use.

Before you know it, fall will be here, and then the kids will need a warm jacket again. Jackets with pockets and a hood are especially popular. To have it ready for fall, it’s a good idea to start knitting it now.

This jacket fits children from about 2 to 2.5 years old and will last for quite a while. My granddaughter didn’t want to pass it on to her sister at all, even when the sleeves were already too short.

The jacket is knitted from merino wool with a pretty, colorful pattern and raglan worked from the top down. I recommend this knitting pattern for advanced knitters.

How lovely to be able to watch swallows. I’d love that, too. Unfortunately, I don’t know where they’re nesting around here. Probably at some farm—there are plenty of them around here.

Oh wow, the swallows have been flying up north for a week already? That’s really early. But titmice in the garden are cute, too. We rarely see them, though.

Today here in southeastern Bavaria, the first swallows are flying over our house. What a joy! And right on time for Pentecost. Summer can definitely come now.

How about where you are? Have you spotted any swallows yet?

Yeah, that sounds strange, but I actually rescued some flowers at Rewe.
The manager there was sorting through various bouquets because many of the flowers in them had wilted. So I just asked him how much they’d cost if I took two of them.

He said I was welcome to pick something out and take it for free. Of course, that made me happy, because there were quite a few flowers in there just waiting to be saved by me. And so now I’ve been given a beautiful Pentecost bouquet as a gift.

That looks beautiful. We had a similar spectacle here in southeastern Bavaria yesterday, too. But unfortunately, I missed it because I didn’t look outside. Will it happen today, too? I don’t know...

I also wish all moms and grandmas a wonderful Mother’s Day with their families. For me, it’s something special this year. We usually don’t celebrate it, for the reasons Inge mentioned. But now, after a long break, I’ll be seeing my granddaughters again on Sunday, and my son has planned something nice. This is a first for me, and I’m really looking forward to it.
