Sewing a placemat

After an afternoon at the sewing machine, I finished a new placemat. 



I used the quilt-as-you-go method again, and I’m absolutely thrilled to see how sewing one piece of fabric to another creates a whole new fabric. 



The challenge this time was the border with the corners. 



I used some well-aged fabric from 2014—table linens and bedding—click on the picture to see where the fabrics came from. 



Now it’s in the kitchen, and I’m absolutely thrilled with it.

Hi Petra, you have every reason to be happy with it—the set turned out really beautiful 👍🏽 I’m currently thinking about how I can make a wipeable set; I already have a rough idea… and yes, the corners can be a bit of a challenge sometimes, but you handled them great.

Petra, you’re already a sewing pro. Your placemat looks great. I haven’t tried this method yet, but I’m sure I will. It definitely inspires me to give it a try.

Right now, this is my favorite way to sew with fabric scraps. I still have lots of ideas for sprucing up my little house and the patio.
