How are your UFOs doing? Were you able to finish a project this week? What are you working on today?

Dear community,

How are your UFOs = unfinished objects / craft projects that have been left lying around doing? Were you able to land / finish one, or have you created new UFOs? What are you working on today?

Mod tip: You can find lovely bestsellers here. Patterns for leftover yarn and for Advent / Christmas are available in a wide selection in the shop. Have fun with them.

Thank goodness UFOs can’t complain when you don’t pay them any attention.

So mine are doing just fine right now. One is lying within reach on my sewing table. Today is my son’s birthday, and tomorrow we’d like to go on an outing with my friend. So maybe on Saturday.

I haven’t started anything new. Right now, I’m finishing everything up.

I’m working on another post for the blogging world about making pumpkins.

And this week I designed a new embroidery design for Halloween on the computer. I’d like to start on that this weekend, but only after I’ve finished my Christmas UFO.

It’s been hanging on the wall for a while, and I’ve been wondering if I like how it looks in the embroidery hoop. I haven’t come up with a better idea yet. Now I’m going to finish it up like this

😁My pom-pom UFOs (a pig and 2 penguins) are still half-finished.  Right now I’m working on—or rather, crocheting—an “owl” pencil holder that has a base for stability, into which I was able to insert a CD. The body of the pencil holder is crocheted in double layers, with cardboard inserted between the outer and inner layers. I still have to make the eyes and the beak; I’m not sure yet if I’ll make feet, and the wings still need to be attached. 😉

Other than that, I’m not sure what I’ll start next, since I’ve already given away quite a few toilet roll covers and only have three left at home.

We also have a toilet roll cover on the shelf in our car 🤭.

Best, Regina

Hihi, my older UFOs have been joined by about 2 to 3 new ones. I pick up each project little by little and work on it, so every now and then one gets finished. But I couldn’t really imagine life without any UFOs at all.

Best regards, Martina

Yesterday evening I found a UFO that I didn’t even remember still existed :-)) In my sewing room there was a shelf that would most likely have collapsed sometime soon; it was standing so crookedly in the corner and was totally overloaded with craft stuff and other things of mine. So we emptied it out, and for now I have everything lying and standing on my sewing table, and some of it even in the living room :-( While going through some cartons and boxes today, I found my Lieseln stuff. I did know it was there on the shelf, but I never looked inside anymore, since I can hardly do it anyway. This evening I thought, why not try whether I can at least manage it a little, and lo and behold, it worked quite well. It’s just all very small, because the hexagons have sides only 2 cm long. I’ll finish it bit by bit. For me, this *Lieseln* was always a mental activity; I could really relax and lose myself in the sewing. Because the whole piece is sewn only by hand.

If anyone is interested, just google Lieseln with hexagons; you’ll find quite a lot.

Best wishes, Inge

My UFOs are sitting nicely in a box, waiting for me—they’ll probably need a lot of patience. We have a kitten here who is very—how should I put it? Well, he’s a real whirlwind, sleeps very little, and is always on the go. I’ve had so many ideas for weeks now that my head is a total mess—I don’t even know where to start when I’m able to get back to it. :-D.

Goodness gracious, if UFOs could talk, there’d be quite a commotion here!

But I actually managed to finish two—even though one project didn’t turn out as planned, I’m showing it anyway:

I wanted to make coasters with an autumnal look, but the fabric decided it would rather fall apart. 🧐🤬🤯 I reinforced it with interfacing, turned it inside out—nothing—so I had to rethink my approach and sew the leaves together without turning them. The fabric frayed so much that it actually looks pretty good, except that you can now see the interfacing 😭 A classic flop:

I’d seen Ina’s great denim reading heart, but mine didn’t turn out quite as well, unfortunately.

The fabric for the small heart was too thick and the one for the big one was too stretchy; I had to make do with what I had left—it was once again a memorial piece from a time of mourning. Darn!

But I’m always very critical of my own work. So much for the joy of crafting—during and after… 🫣

A kitten! ♡♡♡ I remember our little one exactly two years ago. It’s really super cute but also very exhausting, just like with a real baby—except that this furry baby can already walk.

Now the kitty’s all grown up and shines by being gone at night (which is why I sleep poorly), and during the day she’s napping. I don’t get much out of her.

Yes, dear Anja, you’re too hard on yourself. But I know how that feels. We always want to make perfect things. But honestly, I really like your imperfect leaves. I especially like the frayed edges on the autumn leaves. In real life, they’re a bit frayed too when they’ve been lying around for a while and turn brown. If the leaves had a straight (turned-in) fabric edge, they would have lost some of their playfulness. So I think they’re perfect! The leaf veins you sewed on are also lovely.

The denim heart would have turned out wonderfully, too, if you’d had the right fabric. By the way, it wasn’t made by me—someone else sewed it, and I liked it too.

I just sewed some headbands for my granddaughter—some made from a single piece of fabric that can also be worn indoors as a hairband, and some made from two different fabrics. The inside is fleece, so they’re nice and warm.

I hope everyone has a relaxing Sunday.

Best regards, Ina

Oh, I just noticed a duplicate slipped into my pictures—tough luck.

Best regards, Ina

I’ve managed to finish them all and currently have no more UFOs. I only ever have a maximum of two projects going at once and make sure to finish them. Over the weekend, I finished the Nemea shawl from Kleines/Feines. Now I’ve started a raffia bag.
