Dear friends,
please tell me I’m not the only one.
I’m currently working on a little dachshund. Before the face was even finished, I must have redone the snout about fifty times. A little rounder here, a little more balanced there, one round too many, one too few… and back to square one.
At this rate, a real dachshund mama would have her puppies sooner than I’ll finish mine. 😅
All that’s left of my failed attempts is this colorful pile of yarn. That’s why I’m now curious about yours:
Show us: What was your funniest, wonkiest, or weirdest crochet fail? The teddy bear with the squint, the hat for a giant, the unicorn that looks more like a horse with a little horn… I want to see it all!
And if you don’t have a photo: Feel free to share how many times you’ve had to unravel something before you were satisfied.
I’ll start with my current pr
ogress. 🐾
I’ve never taken photos of my unraveled projects—I really don’t need to have that “frustration” captured in a picture too 🫣. But I’ve unraveled a lot of things—once, a raglan sweater with a great pattern. I was so absorbed in knitting it that I didn’t even notice the pattern was tightening up, meaning it would have needed more stitches. The sweater got tighter and tighter toward the bottom, and I didn’t notice until right before the ribbing—so I had to unravel everything down to just below the underarm. 🤭 And then I just started over from the beginning—you don’t give up, after all.😇 And putting projects aside to finish UFOs? Not me—I don’t like UFOs. I usually finish what I’ve started—unless something more important comes up 🤔😉.
Oh yes, I almost forgot—I’ve also unraveled my work several times over the last two days; I want to crochet a Viking. The Viking’s hat really “wore me out” 😠—I must have unraveled it 5 or 6 times. I had a pattern that I just couldn’t make sense of. In the end, I made it the way I had imagined, and then it worked out. Once everything’s finished, the Viking will be slipped over a toilet roll—it’s actually going to be a toilet roll cover for the husband of a dear friend/neighbor here in our building 😁. But she doesn’t know anything about it yet.😉😇.
Best, Regina
I know that feeling all too well. After weeks of work🥸
What is Viking crochet, then?
Viking amigurumi—just Google it, and you’ll see pictures. There are also patterns on Etsy. You’re not allowed to post other people’s pictures here, and mine isn’t finished yet, unfortunately. I’m currently sewing on the hat—it needs a little more stuffing before it’s sewn on securely—and the nose and beard still need to be added. ;-). The nose sits right under the brim of the hat; you can’t see the eyes.

Viking gnome :)

Just finished—he doesn’t have a shield or a battle axe yet, but we’ll see. Maybe the recipient will make those himself, since he does a lot of woodworking—he’s good at it.
So, now I’ve spruced up the hat a bit—done :-)
Best regards, Regina

This summer, I crocheted covers for the armrests of our balcony chairs. They were made of aluminum and got really hot at 40°. Since there were screws under the armrests, I had to tinker around quite a bit to make it look good. And… four weeks later, the chair cracked—it was broken!!! The chairs weren’t even a year old, and no one overweight had sat on them. We don’t need armrest covers for the new chairs. I wanted to throw them away, but my husband said I should think economically. So I washed them and then unraveled them. It wasn’t easy because they were already a bit felted.
