I just took apart an old bustier and am going to use the pattern to sew a new one from a scrap of fabric. I’ve already cut out the pieces.

I’ll let you know how it turns out.

It’s (almost) summer, and I have a few nice (maxi) dresses in my closet. But they need a little bolero to go with them. First, I checked to see if I could find something like that for sale that met my needs. Sort of… either I don’t like the color, or the material is polyester, or the style is old-fashioned, or the top is open across the chest—which doesn’t look that great on me, or I’d prefer a bit more fabric there. Besides, I think they’re way too expensive for such flimsy fabric. No way—I’m going to sew it myself!

The other day at the youth initiation ceremony, a woman was wearing exactly the kind of bolero I wanted—tied in the front. I took a really close look at it and studied every detail ;-) So I searched online for a suitable pattern, found one, and bought it.

I’ve already glued the pattern pieces together into a large layout. Next, I’ll cut out the pieces (I’m between sizes and always have to check and measure first to see whether I should go with the smaller or larger size...) and then it’s time to choose the fabric. I’ll probably sew a test version first using a fabric that isn’t all that pretty. If it fits well, I’ll move on to the “nice” fabrics that go perfectly with my dresses. I’ll keep you posted.
