Recycling my old knitted items

For days now, I’ve been sitting here unraveling some of my older knitted items that I haven’t worn or put on in two years—or even longer—such as a soul warmer that sat in the closet for two years and hasn’t been worn since, and scarves that I stopped wearing because they were always way too warm for me during the last few winters. So I’ve unraveled it all, and this is the result—which I’m now knitting into a blanket :-)
Since I knitted all of this myself, I knew exactly where to start to get back to the beginning :-)

Love, Inge

Well, that’s what I call recycling! It doesn’t get much more sustainable than that. Many others wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of unraveling them but would have just secretly thrown them away at some point. But now they’re being turned into something completely new—a blanket that you can always use. I hope you have lots of fun with your new blanket project.

Maybe your daughter has some slightly lighter-colored yarn for you? Looking at the photo, this is going to be a rather dark blanket. I felt it was missing a bit of color ;-) But to each their own.

Best regards, Ina

Inge, you’ve been really busy. I’d usually pass things like that on—there’s always someone who’ll want them. However, if they’ve gotten too big for you, that’s not so easy. Unraveling them is the better option. You can always use a blanket—it’s great for using up leftover yarn.

Like Ina says, I’d also add a few pops of color.

So today I picked up some bright-colored yarn for the blanket at Tedi, because I felt the same way you did—the yarn I had lying around was a bit too drab for me. :-)

Hugs, Inge

I’m already excited to see what your blanket will look like, and I hope you’ll show it to all of us then.

I want to knit all the pieces of the blanket just like this one and then sew them together at the end—let’s see how many pieces I can get out of my yarn. That means knitting one piece in landscape orientation and one in the normal straight orientation; I’ll then knit that one directly onto the landscape piece.

So, today it’s been 6 days since I started knitting :-)
Now I want to show you how far I’ve got

Best wishes, Inge

Just a quick update on how far I’ve gotten with my blanket: it’s about 120 cm now, so I still want to knit on another 50–60 cm.

Best, Inge

Inge, your blanket looks really great—so colorful and somehow “lively.” I really like how it blends with the newly purchased yarn.

Warm regards
Monika

Thanks to all of you, but now it’s finally finished :-)

I started my blanket on April 10, 2024, so I didn’t actually spend as long knitting it as I thought I would [image removed]
but it’s finished and measures 160 cm x 110 cm. Big enough to
snuggle under if I ever get chilly :-)
It was knitted entirely in garter stitch.

Best, Inge

Oh dear, now you’ll get bored again in the evenings—without your knitting on your lap. But at least it’s nice and cozy under the blanket. The blanket turned out really beautiful. The bright, cheerful colors add lovely accents and put you in a good mood. Yes, the blanket is a treat for the eyes, too.

Best regards, Ina
