Raglan Cardigan from the Top

Hi everyone,
I have a specific question today:
I’m currently knitting a lightweight raglan cardigan from the top down following a pattern.
I already have almost 300 stitches on an 80 cm needle (back, front, both sleeves), and there are still more to come.
How do you go about trying it on to make sure it fits so you can finish the raglan and then knit the body and sleeves separately?
I used to do this with a thread, but I’m not sure how it would work with Silkhair yarn. I’m sure you have better ideas.

Carola, if you have several longer circular needles, I’d distribute the stitches across them. That’s how I do it when I try something on.
