Egg Cups / Egg Cozies

These little gnomes, which double as egg cups and egg cozies, bring fun to the whole family at the breakfast table.

As you can see in the second picture, the gnomes can also be useful for many other treasures that they store in their bellies.

The gnomes can be crocheted in no time and also make a nice little gift. The crochet pattern is also suitable for beginners with basic skills. And yes, of course, leftover yarn can also be used very well here.

Fall Fashion 2017

This colorful cotton polo sweater for toddlers is the perfect way to start fall. And it’s a real eye-catcher.

It is lightweight and, with the knitting pattern, also easy to knit yourself. It’s suitable for girls just as much as for boys.

What’s special about this polo sweater is that you have almost no seams. It only needs to be sewn together at the top of the shoulder and for a tiny section under the arm. It is knitted from the bottom up.

The pattern for the polo sweater includes 10 pages incl. photos and is suitable for advanced beginners. You need the following basic skills:

  • knit and purl stitches
  • knit twisted knit stitches
  • work a yarn over (you need this for the buttonhole)
  • increase stitches (the different methods are described)
  • increase stitches
  • bind off stitches
  • Kitchener stitch for knit stitches (for joining at the shoulder)
  • color changes (for the stripes)
  • embroidering knit stitches onto knitted pieces
  • picking up stitches to knit on (here, the sleeve)
Many steps are shown with photos.

Here’s the knitting pattern for the polo sweater for toddlers.

That’s because, with this crochet pattern, you can quickly and easily crochet it in any color combination you want. Here you can see it in the summery colors of turquoise, gray, and white.

The box is crocheted without seams, and even beginners with basic skills can easily make it using the pattern. And it’s done in a flash. It’s also a great idea as a gift or a little something to bring along.

Materials used:
  • 50 g of turquoise cotton yarn – 120 m/50 g
  • Scraps in white and gray – same yardage
  • a size 3 crochet hook

This pinafore skirt for toddlers grows with them from about 1.5 years up to age 5.

Little by little, it turns into a cute skirt. This means the favorite piece can be worn for a long time, which is sure to make both child and mom happy.

The following materials are needed (colors and yarn can also be chosen differently)
  • Circular knitting needles size 3 and size 2 – each 60 cm long
  • 1 crochet hook size 4 for the cord
  • 200 g cotton (yardage 120 m/50 g) in the main color – coral here
  • 50 g in golden yellow (mustard) for the stripes, hearts, and cord

We’re looking for your oldest handmade creation!

Wow, you’ve found some beautiful things. Unfortunately, I’ve given away almost everything I knitted, crocheted, and sewed for my son 30–40 years ago. The only thing I’ve found so far is part of the Advent calendar I crocheted almost 40 years ago:

I’m going to start looking for photos now. I can photograph them and show them to you.
Unfortunately, I haven’t found anything at all from my school days. It probably didn’t survive all those moves. ;-)

I started after my son was born and made just about everything by hand. Crocheted curtains, embroidered tablecloths, Norwegian sweaters and other patterned sweaters. That reminds me: I knitted my husband a sweater with a seaplane on it; that really ought to still be in the closet.

It’s really interesting what all comes to mind, and especially what you all still have. Really great!

We’re looking for your oldest handmade creation!

Wow, everyone, you have such beautiful early pieces! :-)
I’m going to dig out my very first knitting project—I still have it—a doll’s scarf, though it turned out absolutely terrible…

It’s been about 55 years now; I was 8 years old back then. I could barely hold the needles or pull the stitches through. When I was done, I said that this would definitely not be one of my favorite activities.

And look at me now?! Not a day goes by without my beloved knitting needles—or at least my crochet hooks. :-)

I’ll dig out that scarf; it actually looks pretty funny in its simplicity.

Later on, I knitted and crocheted for my dolls and teddy bears, using very simple techniques. And when my son was born 41 years ago, knitting and crocheting became my passion. That’s when I started feeling the drive to create something truly beautiful.

I’ll see what I can find and post the photos here, too. A super-great topic, by the way! It brings back memories… how nostalgic.

Have a lovely evening, everyone. I’ll check in again tomorrow.

Warm evening greetings
Monika

Cheerful Patterns

This cheerful family of gnomes is sure to put you in a good mood.

Not only do they look cheerful, they also have many useful functions. Their little house can be used to hide all sorts of things, for example gifts, but also buttons and many other little items.

The gnome house is just as useful, because it can hold your yarn. Children will have fun with this set, and it will give them lots of creative ideas for playing. An Advent calendar made of gnomes, with the house as the 24th Christmas gift, would be something quite different and a fun surprise.

This gnome set can also spread good cheer on the breakfast table. The bread rolls can be hidden in the gnome house and the eggs in the gnomes.

You’re sure to have lots of other ideas too.

The difficulty level is easy, because even crochet beginners with basic skills will be able to make the gnomes and the gnome house well using the respective patterns. The little gnomes are finished in no time.

Click here for the crochet pattern for the cheerful gnome set with the gnome house.

If you would like to have just the gnomes or just the house, that is also possible:

Download discount bundles

Here you can get the crochet pattern for the cute gnome family together with a gnome house as a value set. Both files will be available for download after purchase.

The gnomes and the matching house have many useful functions, for example:

  • You can hide gifts inside them (e.g. money, jewelry, sweets, and much more).
  • They are an absolute hit as egg cozies.
  • They are a sweet little gift for all ages.
  • They keep an eye on your knitting and crochet supplies, e.g. buttons.
  • They can also store jewelry in their bodies.
  • They also look great as an Advent calendar.
  • They are an absolute hit for children’s birthday parties and are sure to bring lots of joy.
  • Each piece on its own is an unusual and fun gift wrap.
  • On the breakfast table, this set spreads good cheer as a roll/bread basket together with the gnomes as egg cozies.
  • All together, it is a wonderful toy for children that sparks the imagination.
  • Many things can be stored in the house: toys, craft supplies, fruit, clips, and much more.
  • Your yarn is also stored here wonderfully and very decoratively.
  • The sewn-on door on the house is open at the top and can be used like a pocket, for example for buttons, crochet hooks, and much more.
  • With the house number 24 on it, it is the 24th gift from the Advent calendar, so the 23 gnomes also have a house.
  • There are surely many more possibilities you’ll think of.
The house can be set up with either the number (house number 24) or the face facing forward, just as you like. You can also leave the roof completely plain, according to your own needs.

I would describe the difficulty level as easy. The faces can be shaped well with a little skill. This is also shown in the pattern.

The gnomes and the house can be made very easily and quickly by beginners with the basic crochet skills listed here.

The individual steps are described in detail in both patterns. The PDF file for the gnomes includes 21 pages with over 50 individual photos. And the PDF file for the gnome house includes 19 pages, also with many photos.

These prior skills are required: Crochet:

  • single crochet, slip stitches, chain stitches
  • half and regular double crochet, front and back post double crochet
  • decreasing and increasing stitches
  • crocheting in rounds / spirals
Also:
  • sewing on buttons and felt, basic embroidery skills

Bags

This belt bag is very practical, especially when your clothes don’t have pockets. It looks very decorative, and you can store your essentials inside. For example, I always wear it with leggings.

The bag is big enough to hold a tissue and even a cell phone.

I’d rate the difficulty as medium. You should already have some experience with crocheting.
Every step is explained in detail across 23 pages with 59 photos. The belt is 8 cm wide and can be adjusted to any size.

A very creative toy is this gnome house—together with the funny gnomes. Both are quick and easy to crochet using the respective patterns if you have basic crochet skills.

In the evening, it serves as a bedroom for the gnomes. They go to bed together with the children ... in their house. And they can even take quite a few things with them, as you'll see in a moment.

May I introduce them: this is the gnome family that belongs with the gnome house. Many treasures can be hidden inside them and tidied away creatively. Children will surely have a thousand ideas for what they can do with them. A gift like this is always well received.

How about, for example, having gnomes like these as an Advent calendar this year, and on December 24 they get their house?

Question of the week: Are you still busy with crafts in this weather?

Right now in the summer, I especially enjoy crocheting. That’s how these little gnomes came to be—I crocheted them here and there during coffee breaks or while watching movies.

Now I’ve also ventured back into my knitting projects and ordered some new yarn so I’ll always have enough on hand (though I usually don’t…). Many designs are finished, but help… I don’t have enough hands!! Do you feel the same way?

My UFOs are screaming to be finished, and that way I’ll also make room for new yarn… yay.
It’s supposed to get cooler, which is good for the needles, the yarn, and us, too. :-)

Happy knitting, crocheting, crafting, and sewing to you all,
Monika
