does this sound familiar? You’re short on yarn for your new project—just one or two skeins would be enough. You actually still have plenty left. Your full closets and shelves offer a wide variety. But—you’re missing the exact color you have in mind, and it absolutely has to be that one!
Okay, no problem. You’ll just order that yarn.
And right now it’s happening again… that craving for new yarn. Your fingers are already tingling, and the anticipation is building. Because you know exactly that if you go looking for that
specific yarn you’re missing right now, then… well, there are sooooo many colors that go perfectly with it.
That’s exactly where I’m at right now. And on top of that, there’s a summer sale going on right now where you can get this yarn for much less.
My dears, I’m just realizing—it’s the most wonderful addiction in the world. :-) Because it fuels our creativity, lifts our spirits, and makes other people happy too (with the finished products or the patterns).
So there’s absolutely no reason not to go buy some yarn right now. I’ll let you know what I made with it once the package arrives. ;-)
With that in mind… happy knitting, crocheting, and… yarn shopping! :-)
Well, you never really have the right color at home :-) And even if you do, there’s never enough of it. So how did that tingling in your fingers turn out? Did you buy it? Or didn’t you?
Oh, iglinz, there were so many beautiful things to see... and just the thought of having this exact yarn in my hands and what I could make from it. A thousand ideas came to me that just hadn’t been there before. I’m really looking forward to the package and will post a photo here once it arrives.
Of course, I’ve also already stocked up for fall, because it’ll be here before we know it. ;-)
And before I knew it, my order had reached 50 euros. So why pay shipping costs when I can get yarn instead?
I’m more the kind of person who goes to the store in person — I actually never take more than I can carry :-) But it’s always such an uplifting feeling! Almost better than Christmas!
I only wanted to restock black and white... what can I say? Then there were so many gorgeous colors, and in the end, my husband was gasping for breath when he took the package... 75 skeins of cotton yarn—it was like Christmas and my birthday all at once ;-)
My uncle asked, “Where is all this supposed to go?”
My husband’s reply: “You know her… she can stack them so they’ll fit in a mouse hole.”
Today I noticed that I’m running low on my 10-mm half-pearls—I know myself: once I order them, it won’t stop there… after all, the shipping costs shouldn’t be higher than the value of the goods ;-)
Well, I’m not the only one... ;-)
I just counted—oh dear. “Only” 39 skeins ended up in the order.
My husband doesn’t know yet. And the way I see it, I’ll have to clear out a cupboard or a shelf first, because it all has to go somewhere ... *scratches head*
At least I turned the shipping costs into yarn — that’s a good deal. :-)
Haha, yes, I basically just bought more orange yarn... just in different color blends... lol
I’m part of that club too, with a great yarn shop right nearby... and an even greater owner, so I’m doubly happy to head over there. And I can pay by card at her shop... what a cruel world
Yep, the orange one is way up in the top left corner... grin.
And then, of course, I thought of projects for which I might also need white and red/pink shades.
What I’d forgotten in the shopping frenzy was the yarn for one of my UFOs... chuckle...
I’ve reordered that now. So another package is on its way… though a bit smaller this time.
It’s simply the best addiction in the world—no doubt about it! :-)
Luckily, I don’t have a store right around the corner. That would be a disaster for my credit card… ;-)
Dear Otterthaler_Haekelmaus, can’t you teach us how to stack things in the mouse hole? I’m sure a lot of people would be veeeery grateful!
And mowi: the contents of the package already look great, and I’d love to see what beautiful things come out of it!
you can now see some of the results from the yarn package here—I posted the pattern for the (Christmas) gnome family in the shop today:

They’re also getting a house now... which is already “under construction.” :-)
So my yarn bundle is gradually turning into a useful decoration. :-)
@Monika
I’m joining in on this wonderful “addiction.” For me, it got to the point where I couldn’t walk past a yarn store anymore… until I finally had one of my own. And there have even been times when, on my only store-free day (Sunday), I just haaaad to go get more supplies… And you’d better not ask me how many UFOs I have lying around…
Best regards from another yarn addict
Oh, Traudelina, I totally get where you’re coming from. Yes, it sounds a bit absurd that you’d drive to your own store on a Sunday just to pick up more supplies. But only to people who don’t do crafts...
I also love dyeing and spinning, so I truly have plenty of supplies. Buuut you can’t possibly stick to the same old routine forever, and there are sooo many beautiful yarns in the world—and the stores need to make a living, too.
Oh yes, Traudelina, the UFOs ... I'm tackling those right now so I don't slowly start losing track... ;-)
And now the temperatures are a bit more knitting-friendly. :-)
