For your little sunshine, there’s nothing cozier than their very own baby blanket made by Mom, Grandma, or another dear person. With a hood, of course, so that their little head is always well protected.
And when the very little sunshine grows into a bigger sunshine, the blanket will be a faithful companion day and night.

In the pattern, you’ll find lots of pictures and a color-highlighted crochet chart.

You should know these techniques:
  • chain stitches
  • double crochet
  • slip stitches
  • single crochet
Material
  • crochet hook size 4
  • darning needle for weaving in the ends and sewing on the hood
  • Yarn with 50 g = approx. 196 meters, needle size 2.5–3 (I used Woll Butt Versailles), 5 different colors: 2 inner colors 2 x 50 g, 3 outer colors 3 x 50 g. For a larger blanket, adjust the amount of yarn accordingly.

Oktoberfest season is a great occasion for this:

Knitting pattern for a baby traditional vest, size 86/92, with intarsia cable

(For purchase/download, please click the image)

But not just during Oktoberfest season...

For this special sleeveless baby vest without buttons, we need:

150 g gray merino wool + 50 g red merino wool, here Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine 120, 50 g – 120 m yardage, gauge according to the ball band: 22 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm, knitting needles 3.0–4.0; here: knitting needles 4.0, cable needle, crochet hook 3.5 for the bow, stitch holder or similar for holding stitches, yarn needle for weaving in ends, stitch marker is helpful.

The PDF pattern is illustrated.

The red cable on the back is worked in intarsia technique (illustrated explanation is included) and requires a bit of time and skill - so I would not recommend it for beginner knitters.

The cable also looks beautiful in solid gray, and the whole piece is then knitted up quite quickly. I therefore recommend that beginner knitters knit this vest completely without the cable and/or in one color.

Sock-Knitting Course for 4-ply yarn - all sizes for baby, children’s, women’s, and men’s socks

(To purchase/download, please click the image)

Knitting socks (possibly with leftover sock yarn) is wonderful to do - no matter where you are - and both little and big feet will be delighted with the results.

This is an illustrated sock-knitting course using baby socks size 15, knitted from 4-ply sock yarn, with charts for all sizes

Included in the download :

  • Main PDF pattern with detailed photos
  • handwritten sketches
  • baby sock chart for sizes 15 - 20
  • sock chart for sizes 22 - 47
A short-form baby mitten pattern is integrated into the main pattern.

Don’t be alarmed! It’s harder to describe the process than it is to knit the socks.

Required materials:
4-ply sock yarn (wonderfully soft options include, for example, Ferner “Lungauer Sockengarn” merino sock yarns, or Austermann “Step” with aloe vera and jojoba, or “Comfort” with cashmere)

  • approx. 15 g for the baby socks,
  • approx. 10 g for the baby mittens,
  • for adult socks up to size 44: 100 g,
  • if larger than size 44, then 150 g is required.
Set of double-pointed needles 2.5, tape measure, scissors, yarn needle for weaving in ends.

How about using baby socks, for example, as “packaging” for gifts of money or sweets, as an Advent calendar, as a keychain, decoration, or similar...?

And here’s the

sock knitting course for socks made from 6-ply yarn—with charts for all sizes

(Click the image to purchase/download )

. .but of course, not just for Christmas.
Socks made from 6-ply sock yarn
are slightly thicker—and therefore warmer—and, above all, knit faster than those made from 4-ply yarn. They’re usually preferred for house and bed socks , slippers , or even for hiking in mountain boots . Men love these kinds of socks in work boots .

This is a sock knitting course , illustrated in detail using children’s socks in size 32/33 as an example.
All other sizes can be knitted according to the corresponding chart information for 6-ply sock yarn .

Included in the download :

  • PDF sock-knitting pattern—illustrated step by step (22 pages)
  • Baby sock size chart for 6-ply sock yarn, from newborns up to shoe size 20
  • Sock chart for 6-ply sock yarn: children’s socks up to adult shoe size 47
You will need
  • Approx. 25 g for baby socks
  • up to shoe size 33: approx. 50 g
  • 1 ball = 150 g (length approx. 420 m to 450 m) up to shoe size 44;
  • 200 g – 250 g from size 45 onward

of a 6-ply sock yarn; here we’re using the extra-soft Christmas yarn in color 02, “Mally Socks – Lungauer Sockenwolle” by Ferner Wolle, 75% merino, 25% polyamide; Gauge: approx. 22 sts x 31 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm; set of double-pointed needles size 3.5; a row counter is helpful; measuring tape, scissors, and a yarn needle for weaving in ends.

For 4-ply sock yarns, a separate sock knitting course with corresponding charts is available—see also above:  https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/items/5603/sockenstrick-lehrgang-fuer-4-faediges-garn-alle-groessen-fuer-baby-kinder-damen-herrensocken

A real evergreen:

Baby traditional-style knitted cardigan, size 50/56, including a gauge conversion chart

(Click the image to purchase/download)

...the traditional classic in miniature...

This cardigan can also be knitted as a vest without sleeves (in that case, crochet around the armholes once in green using single crochet).

For the model shown here of this easy-to-knit baby traditional-style cardigan, you’ll need approx. 100 g of 4-ply sock yarn or similar, e.g. Zimba Top by Schoeller+Stahl in classic traditional gray + 50 g (or leftover yarn) for the edging, knitted in traditional green, knitting needles size 3.0 and, if needed, a size 3–3.5 crochet hook for the decorative foundation chain on the button band.

The PDF pattern includes 15 images.

Also included in the download as a bonus is a simplified version of my Excel spreadsheet for quickly converting your gauge to the desired size (applicable to all knitted/crocheted pieces;
a spreadsheet program is required, e.g. Excel or LibreOffice—the latter is available free online).

Basic knitting skills are assumed (i.e. these steps are not illustrated).
Required knitting skills: cross cast-on, knit stitches, bind off, increase stitches (from the strand between stitches), yarn over (for the buttonholes), knit two stitches together.
