Temperature Blankets 2026: Can You See the Heat Wave? Can You Sew Temperature Blankets?

Is anyone here currently working on a temperature blanket (i.e., crocheting or knitting one row per day in the predetermined color corresponding to that day’s temperature)? What does that look like with all these heat waves?

Would sewing temperature blankets—with a narrow strip of fabric for each day—be an enormous amount of work?

I crocheted my temperature blanket in 2023; the colors turned out pretty moderate—the winter wasn’t too cold, and the summer wasn’t too hot. I didn’t even need the colors for the coldest and hottest days.

This year, it would have turned out similarly in the winter, but the summer was really intense—you’d definitely see that in the blanket.

I’m not working on anything like that right now. Knitted or even crocheted blankets aren’t my thing. They’re very heavy—you have to like that.

I could imagine a sewn blanket as patchwork. But 365 strips—even if they’re only 1 cm wide—would make a blanket over three meters long. That might be a little unwieldy.

As an alternative, you could use 2-meter-long strips and either add a strip only for every other day or use half the strips for the back. After all, you definitely need a backing for a quilt. The sheer number of seam allowances would be terrible, though. So maybe just use the average temperature for each week and cut wider strips accordingly?
