Weaving in Ends: As You Go or at the End?

Hi,

when it comes to clothing items, I usually weave in ends at the end, unless there are too many ends.
If there are a lot of color changes, I sometimes weave them in as I go.

For figures and similar projects, I usually try to crochet the thread into the work so I can skip
the weaving step. If that doesn’t work, I weave in the ends after each
completed section.

Wooly Wednesday: Who bought (or didn’t buy) any yarn?

Hello,

I still haven’t bought any yarn.
It looks like I’ll be able to stay on a yarn diet for quite a while longer.

How are you all doing? How’s it going? What are you up to today? Lunch, weather update, weekly plans, craft goals.

Hi,

I’m doing pretty well. My cold has cleared up, except for the cough.
The weekend was a bit stressful. We went to check out the school our little one will be attending
after summer break, and yesterday we visited some very dear friends.

We just had fruit for lunch, since I’m going out for Chinese food with my friend
tonight.

It’s rainy here.

I don’t have any goals for the week—I’m just crocheting away.

How to add lettering to a crochet piece

Hello,

I once crocheted a makeup bag using double single crochet stitches; it was possible to
embroider the name on it in cross stitch, and that worked quite well.

I don't understand why you feel attacked.
Your tone is a bit too harsh.

THAT'S WHAT I THINK.

Hardworking little helpers: What are you working on right now?

Hi,

I’m currently working on a table runner for our dining room table.
The runner is about 30 cm wide and will be 3.10 m (+/- 5 cm) long.

I’ve already finished most of it. I’ll have it done this week.

I’m thinking about whether I should start on the Easter projects right after that.

Best wishes, Heike

Monday Thread: How are you, how’s it going, what are you up to? Lunch, weather update, weekly plans, craft goals.

Hi,

I’ve had a cold for four weeks now and have terrible headaches.
My vacation is over; everyday life started up again today.

It’s dry and cold here.

I’m currently crocheting a table runner that needs to be 3.10 m long and about
30 cm wide. Unfortunately, I have to piece the yarn together so that I use the same
lot number. My stash is dwindling, at least as far as this
cotton yarn goes.

For dinner tonight, we’re having chicken fricassee with rice.

Other than that, I have two school events coming up this week. Friday
is Open House, and Saturday is Open Class Day, since our
little one is switching schools this summer.

Best regards, Heike

Haekeltrulla is a winner and has won: This inner couch potato was conquered. 1 year without buying yarn.

Thank you all very much.

It actually wasn't hard. Since I have so much yarn stash that I think I can keep going for another year
.

I’ll definitely try until it really isn’t possible anymore.

Wooly Wednesday: Who’s bought some yarn? Christmas yarn, leftover yarn, yarn diet, and yarn stash updates + yarn wish list

Hi,

I still have plenty of yarn in stock, which I’ll keep working through until there’s absolutely nothing left.

I’ve already been thinking about whether I should make a patchwork or granny square blanket out of the individual skeins I have left over that aren’t enough for a
project. Something really nice and colorful.

Best wishes, Heike

Finished with your Christmas gifts?

@mowi19
Yes, I’ve already gotten quite a bit done, but somehow time is getting away from me.

On Friday I have to pack my bags, because we’re leaving for vacation
overnight into Saturday.

I really don’t know when I’m supposed to get everything done, especially since I’m still working through
Thursday.

Hi,

I still need to finish Baby Emmi, and I’m missing two bottle wrappers.

I’ve already finished a mermaid bag, one Baby Emmi, and seven bottle wrappers.

Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten around to anything else yet.

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. But the day could do with more hours. Yesterday I baked Christmas cookies with the children, and today we're doing a second round. Between work and baking Christmas cookies, I'm continuing to crochet the Christmas presents. Today I've already crocheted before work and during my break. Best regards, Heike

How are you all doing right now? Weekly plans, craft goals, (vegan) lunch, weather update.

Hi,

I’ve had a good start to the week, except for the onset of a cold.
The weather is nice—no rain at the moment, the sun is shining now and then, and it’s
not quite as cold.
I’m still at work until 3:30 p.m. Then I’ll go pick up my younger daughter and
head home. My older daughter gets out of school at 4:00 p.m.
Today we want to bake some cookies.

As for my crafts, I’m working on the Christmas gifts.
I’m running out of time.
Since I have a bit of a cold, I’d love to just lie down, but unfortunately that’s not possible.

Yarn for Christmas: How’s that going?

Hi,

I’m still working through my yarn stash.
It’s going wonderfully, and it’s great to see the stash slowly but surely
dwindling.

My husband said that with the amount of yarn I have, I won’t need to buy any
more in this lifetime.

Little Helpers / Christmas Elves: Who’s been hard at work?

Hi,

I’m currently working on my Christmas gifts.

I’ve finished one mermaid bag and one bottle gift bag; I’m working on
the second one now.

The six Advent calendars and the angel Luisa for my mother-in-law set me back a bit.
These projects weren’t planned and just came up unexpectedly. They set me
back almost three weeks in my schedule.

But despite that, I’m moving forward now.

How are you today? Advent spirit, weekly plans, craft goals, lunch, weather update.

Hi,

I’m waiting for my husband to finish our renovations so
I can put up Christmas decorations. I’m already raring to go.
This weekend, I’d like to bake with the kids.

I’m doing pretty well. My stomach’s a little upset.

I’m getting closer and closer to my crafting goals.

It’s been raining cats and dogs here all day.

We’re having dinner tonight: bratwurst, mashed potatoes, and cucumber salad.

I wish everyone a wonderful Advent week.

Hello,

Yarn diet / Yarn Empress / Conqueror of the Inner Slacker in November
[ ] I didn’t buy any yarn in November and earned the title Yarn Empress for a month without buying yarn.
[ ] I haven’t bought any yarn for quite some time. The
title Yarn Empress definitely and deservedly belongs to me. But the diet is over now; I will buy yarn in December. Please state the total time period.

I haven’t bought any yarn since 01/01/2018.
I’m still aiming for the Conqueror of the Inner Slacker. It’s only one more month, then I will have
managed at least 1 year without buying yarn.
But I will keep going until I really HAVE to buy yarn because otherwise I can’t
get anything done anymore.

Was November a good month for you?

Hi,

I’m doing well at the moment.
November was mixed, but not necessarily bad.

What I hope for from December is:

that my mother-in-law will be discharged from the hospital fully recovered
that we’ll be able to finish our renovation
that I’ll be able to finish my projects
that we’ll all be able to relax during our vacation

How are you all doing? Wishes for Advent and Christmas, weekly plans, craft goals, lunch, weather update.

Hello everyone,

I’m doing well and the week has gotten off to a good start.

We’re renovating at home, so everything’s still a bit of a mess.
But I’ll be able to put up Christmas decorations this weekend.
I might do some baking on Sunday if I have time
after decorating.

The weather is overcast but okay for this time of year.

This week, I’ll finish the Advent calendars and do a little crocheting here
and there.

I’m looking forward to our Christmas vacation in the mountains.

Best wishes, Heike

Christmas: last minute or well prepared?

Hi,

since we’re heading to the mountains on December 22, things won’t be as tightly organized.

Back home, everything was always well organized, since I had a
full house all three days.

On Christmas Eve, we’ll attend the children’s Mass and go for a nice
walk. After that? We’ll see how things go.

We don’t have anything planned for the two days of Christmas; we’ll
decide what to do based on the weather and how we feel.

Oh, I’m already so looking forward to our vacation.

Yarn stash: How’s it going? Yarn purchases / leftover yarn / yarn diet

@ruthk :

I have so much yarn that I really don’t need to restrict myself at all. ;-)

Almost all of the yarn was originally bought for specific projects. Then I lost interest in the project
or something else came up, so I kept putting the project off again and again. Over time, huge amounts of yarn piled up.

It became so much that I completely lost track of it all. In the end, I had no
idea where I’d stashed all the yarn. I even found two boxes
of yarn in the attic that I didn’t even know I’d bought—and I couldn’t remember which
project they were for either.

After I’d sorted everything out and gotten an overview of it all, I thought,
“Okay, this is enough to open a yarn shop.” And I decided to work through my stash
until I really can’t reduce it any further.

Yarn stash: How’s it going? Yarn purchases / leftover yarn / yarn diet

Hi,

I’m still on a yarn diet.

I’m curious to see how much longer I can keep it up.

Every time I see yarn, I think, “You still have plenty of that.”

I have to say, it’s really easy on the wallet. ;-)

Monday blues? How are you doing? Lunch, weekly plans, craft goals, weather update.

Hi,

I’m definitely suffering from the Monday blues. The weather is really getting me down.

My daughter has had her friend over since Friday. It was my husband’s birthday on
Saturday, and yesterday both of my daughters took part in the St. Martin’s Run.
Today, it’s back to everyday life.

I still have to work until 4 p.m., then quickly do the shopping and pick up the kids.

The ironing is actually waiting, but it’s used to waiting—one more day won’t
make a difference.
I’m crocheting a guardian angel for my mother-in-law. It should be finished by
Friday evening, since we’re visiting her in the hospital on Saturday.

Yesterday I was shocked to realize that Christmas is only 6
weeks away and I still want to get so much crocheting done by then.

I desperately need 10 more hands.

For dinner tonight, we’re having a cold supper—that is, bread and rolls, sausage, cheese,
tomatoes, eggs, etc.

Best regards, Heike

How much time do you spend on crafts each day?

During the week, I usually manage 1–1.5 hours.
On the weekend, it can sometimes be 3 hours
or more per day.

But it also depends on what else I have going on.

How do you handle Christmas gifts?

Hi,

my goddaughter (6) and her sister (8) are getting a crocheted
baby doll and a little something for their savings accounts.

My oldest (12) is getting a Levi’s hoodie, which she’s been asking for.
My youngest (9) is getting an Amazon gift card, unless she thinks of
something else.

My cousin’s two little ones are getting something crocheted. The boy
is getting a tractor, and the girl is getting a change of clothes for her Emmi doll.

Since we adults don’t exchange gifts among ourselves anymore, that’s all taken care of.

Best regards, Heike

How are you today? Weekly plans, craft goals, lunch, weather update.

Hi,

I’m not feeling so great today. My mother-in-law was admitted to the
university hospital today for 7 weeks, and my daughters were already crying their eyes out at
6:30 this morning. My oldest just texted me
that she’s been crying all morning.
I’ll be really glad to be home today.

The weekend was a mixed bag, but I’ve had worse ones.

My plan for the week is to finish the third baby doll and the
UFO Secret Santa project. I finished my vest yesterday—except for the buttons, which I still need
to buy. I turned the hood into a collar because I couldn’t figure out how to do
the hood. It looks great this way, though.

Tomorrow I’ll be giving the first baby doll as a gift. The little girl turns 3 tomorrow and
will get it for her birthday. I’m curious to see what she’ll say.

I don’t have a meal plan yet—let’s see what my husband has in mind.

It’s cloudy here, but it’s not raining.

Best, Heike

Heinzelmännchen Tuesday: What are you working on?

I crocheted some more on my vest today before work and during my
break.
This evening I’ll start the first sleeve.

Then I also still have on the go:

a gnome (meant to be a Christmas gift for my friend)
a poncho (for me)
a Baby Emmi (the 3rd one)

In addition, for my mother-in-law by Monday I’ll also crochet
"the little hug" and "little courage." The children will make
loving little cards to go with them. We’ll give all of that to her to take with her on her way.

Was October a good month for you?

My October was great in terms of crocheting. But I was also home sick for two weeks.
I finished two out of four baby dolls, a vest for my daughter,
half a poncho for myself, and now I’m working on a vest for myself; I’ve also
started a little gnome.

At the beginning of October,
we spent a few days in Wetzlar. A very dear friend of ours has an apartment there, which she let us use. She doesn’t live there herself.

Unfortunately, my mother-in-law—who is like a mother to me—was diagnosed with cancer three weeks
ago. She has to go to the university hospital next Monday for seven weeks.

As a result, the mood here is pretty somber. The kids are completely thrown
off balance—and so are we. Nobody saw this coming.

Things can only get better.

@sofis-welt : My deepest condolences and lots of strength

Best regards, Heike

How are you all doing? Lunch, weekly plans, craft goals, weather updates

Hello,

I’m doing quite well so far. I’m a little under the weather.
For lunch, I had a smoothie, 1 orange, and 1 apple.
Since we’re going on vacation over Christmas, I’d like to lose a few
pounds.
Here in Saarland, it’s cold and dry.

In October, I finished two Emmis and a vest for my
daughter.
Yesterday I started a vest for myself, I’m already working on the
third Emmi, I’ve also started a gnome, and I’ve finished half
of a poncho for myself—I still need to start the other half.

So right now I have four projects on my needles.

Best regards, Heike

I made it to about 1,900 stitches yesterday.

The first half of my poncho is finished, and I’ve started on the

I won’t be able to crochet as much over the next few days.

I really MUST take care of the laundry and housework.

First, I need to make a list of everything I want to do
and then work my way through it.

I already have a rough idea of who should get what, but there are
always so many things that come up.

Best regards, Heike
