How much yarn / yarn stash / leftover yarn do you have right now?

Hi,

I had to buy some more yarn. My daughters are each getting a glittery Glotzi crocheted for Christmas. Right now, I have way too much yarn again. Starting January 1, 2020, I’ll go back on a “yarn diet” and work through my existing stash.

Best regards, Heike

Crafts: What have you tried so far?

Hi,

I’ve tried crocheting, knitting, and sewing, though knitting and sewing just don’t come naturally to me, so I’ve stuck with crocheting.

I’m in the same boat as creativissimo. I’d love to try Tunisian crochet, but for some reason I don’t feel confident enough to give it a go. But I already have the hooks.......

Hardworking little helpers: How are you wrapping up October?

After I crocheted the Wooly Sweater (pattern from here) and my daughter liked it so much, now it’s my turn to crochet one for her, too.

She’s really looking forward to her new sweater.

I still have so many things on my to-do list that I want to finish BEFORE Christmas, but I feel like time is running out. As always.......

What would you like for Christmas?

Hi,

I hope we all stay healthy.

We’re going to the mountains for Christmas and New Year’s. Spending time with my family is very important to me. We don’t exchange gifts with each other.

In our family, only the children get presents for Christmas.

First-graders / Schoolchildren: How’s the new school year going?

Things are going well for my two daughters.

My younger daughter changed schools and is still settling in. Until tomorrow, she’s
with her school at the national soccer finals—Youth Trains for the Olympics.

My older daughter is already super stressed out at school with exams and tests.

Hardworking little helpers: What are you working on right now?

Today I’m finishing up my Halloween lamp, and then I’ll start either a

Do you like Halloween?

We like Halloween. The kids are already looking forward to going out in costume in the evening. When they get back, we’ll enjoy some delicious raclette together and wind down the evening.

For us, it’s a really cozy family evening.

Hard-Working Little Helpers in Early September

Hi,

yesterday I started an oversized tunic using yarn from my stash.

But I really need to get started on my Christmas projects, and I also wanted to crochet something for Halloween.

Guys, I’m running out of time again.

Yarn Ball Holder

Hi,

I don’t have a yarn ball holder. My ball of yarn is always next to me on the couch, and I’m constantly annoyed that it falls off when I’m unwinding it.

Woolly Wednesday: Do You Knit or Crochet Loosely or with Tight Stitches?

Hi,

I crochet very tightly. So tightly that sometimes the yarn squeaks or I can’t
get my hook into the stitch anymore.
That’s why I can’t crochet with hooks smaller than a size 3.

Catania..... weird question

Thanks for your replies.

The white yarn is really very thin, and the colored ones are thicker.
Maybe the quality really has changed.

I had the same feeling last year or the year before with the “Lisa” yarn from Gründl.
It was renamed from “Lisa uni” to “Lisa Premium,” and I had the impression that
the quality was different too.

Catania..... weird question

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working through a lot of my yarn stash lately, so I’ve used up a lot of acrylic yarn and old Catania stock.

Now I had to buy two new skeins of Catania.

The yarn seems very thin to me. It’s not Catania Fine, but Catania Originals.
125 m per 50 g.
Even though the yardage per gram seems to match, it feels incredibly thin to me.

With my old stash, I crochet with a size 3.5 hook and it looks good. With the new yarn, I’m also crocheting with a 3.5 hook, and it looks as if I’d crocheted with a size 2 hook. The piece also seems small to me (I’ve made the same unicorn before).

Have you had the same experience, or is everything as usual and I’m just perceiving it differently?

Best regards, Heike

Hardworking little helpers: how many UFOs do you have right now?

I have 4 UFOs:

1 reindeer with a sleigh (the sleigh still needs to be finished)
1 Santa gift bag
1 Christmas elf
1 poncho

Let’s see when I can still finish any of these.

When do you get started on Advent calendars?

Hi,

I still need to make a unicorn and two unicorn pencil cases, plus a
poncho for myself. And two dragon lanterns as Christmas gifts.

In between all that, I’ll start working on the Advent calendars.

Fit and well?

Hi,

I’m a little worn out from the weekend. We spent three days in Cologne/Bonn and had a packed schedule.
Things are quiet at work, but I have to work until 4:30 p.m. today because I’m picking up my girls from the swimming pool then.
My oldest is going to a sleepover tonight.
Here in Saarland, it’s 30 °C and very sunny.
Since I’m trying to lose a little weight right now, I had soup for lunch today and will have a salad tonight.
My crafting goal for this week is to finish the first-day-of-school teddy bear for my godchild.

Best regards, Heike

Absolutely!

I feel the same way as Schnuckelina. After a stressful day, there’s nothing better than sitting there with a
cup of coffee and crocheting. It totally relaxes me.

Vacation: Mountains or the Sea?

Definitely: the mountains

We go to the mountains every year. Our kids do want to go to the sea, so I guess we’ll
have to deal with that—someday.

I love sitting on the balcony of our vacation rental in the evening and just looking at
the mountains. We hike a lot and look forward to it anew every single time.

Wooly Wednesday: Stocking Up for Christmas?

Hi everyone,

I ordered some yarn yesterday for my daughters’ Christmas gifts.
They’re both getting a dragon lamp.
Other than that, I still don’t really have much planned.

I’d also like to crochet the Halloween lamp and make myself a poncho, and and and.......

If only I had the time and money for looooots of yarn.

Final Stretch and Awards Ceremony / May Edition 2019

Hi,

after nearly 17 months of not buying yarn, I’ve finally bought some yarn again. But I won’t be hoarding it—
I’ll use it right away to make farewell gifts.

Shopping Queen / King in May:
This title is for everyone who enjoys buying yarn / materials and (for now) doesn’t want to stick to a yarn diet / material diet / fabric diet. Photos are always a good idea.

How are you all doing?

Hi,

I’m doing well. We’re in the midst of preparations for my
little daughter finishing elementary school.
Over Pentecost, we’re heading to Wetzlar for a few days.
The weather’s been mixed, but warm.
I’m working on farewell gifts for the teacher and the aides.

AND.......

...... I bought some yarn. I needed new yarn for the farewell gifts because I didn’t have any
of this type.

After almost 17 months without it......

Vacation 2019: Where are you going?

First, we’re heading to Wetzlar for a few days over Pentecost. A very dear friend of
ours has an apartment there that she doesn’t live in herself and is letting us use.

Then, on June 29, we’re off to the Allgäu for a week.
We’re really looking forward to that.

Before that, though, we still have some school-related stress to deal with. Our little one is changing schools and still
has lots of events coming up, like an overnight stay, the graduation ceremony, and so on.

So right now I’m busy preparing her farewell gifts.

Do you have any ideas?

She already got a roll-up pencil case for preschool.

How do you celebrate Pentecost? / Vacation plans?

Hi,

we don’t have a Pentecost break. Instead, our summer vacation
starts on June 29.
On that day, we’re heading straight to the Allgäu for a week.

We’ll spend the rest of the vacation at home.

Final Stretch and Awards Ceremony / April Edition.

Hello,

Yarn diet / Yarn Empress / Temptation Conqueror in April
[ X  ] I didn’t buy any yarn in April and therefore earned the title Yarn Empress in April for a whole month without buying yarn.
[ X ] I haven’t bought any yarn for quite a while. The
title Yarn Empress is definitely and deservedly mine. But the diet is over now; I’m going to buy yarn in May.
since 01/01/2018
[ X ] I would like the title Temptation Conqueror, because the final round for world domination / rule over this galaxy / Milky Way / Quarterly Empress (for 3 months without buying yarn ) was and is not enough for me. = 1 whole year without buying yarn.
since 01/01/2018

[ X ] I am working on the title Super Yarn-Mountain Conqueror = yarn diet that continues after the title Temptation Conqueror and lasts much longer than one year.
@Wollefaden and @Haekeltrulla, how are things going for you two?
Are you still at it? I’d think it would be great if you kept going, but I could also understand if you want to buy yarn after such a long time.

I’m STILL at it. But the urge to buy new yarn is getting bigger and bigger.

Hi,

I’ll have plenty of time to crochet tomorrow and on Saturday.

Not on Easter Sunday or Monday, though.

On Sunday, we’re invited over for breakfast, then we’re heading to
the summer toboggan run, and in the evening we’re having a barbecue.
On Monday, we’re attending a birthday party.

Help with a pattern

Hi,

to me it sounds like you’re supposed to double every stitch.
Do you have 25 stitches in the last round?
If so, that would mean you crochet 2 sc in each stitch and end
up with 50 stitches.

That’s how I’d interpret it.

But as WollwunderPetra already wrote, it looks like the
purple section is crocheted in rounds and not in rows.

Hello,

I'm feeling a little dizzy today and have a headache, but
otherwise I'm doing well.

Here in Saarland it's nice and warm and sunny, and it's supposed to get

My crafting goal for this week is to finish the Easter baskets
and be able to start something new. It's about time.

But first, this evening I need to repot some seedlings.

Monday Thread: How are you all doing? Happy with March? + the best April Fools’ jokes

Hi,

are you all doing well?
I’m doing very well. Except when I think about the ironing.
But that has to be done sometimes too.

How’s the weather?
Here in Saarland, it’s beautiful. The sun is shining and it’s
warm.

Do you have any handicraft plans and weekly goals?
My goal for the week is to finish my Easter baskets.
But I think that will be difficult. My "little" daughter is turning
10 on Saturday. So I’ll be busy
with preparations all day Friday. Because on Saturday we’re celebrating her children’s birthday party from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What is there to eat?
Shakes..... I’m trying to lose

weight. Are you happy with March?
I’m very happy with March. Great weather, everyone’s healthy again....

My fingers are really itching already. Since I’d like to crochet myself a vest, I would need new yarn for it. But actually I still have soooooooooooooooooo much yarn, just unfortunately not enough of one color or quality for a vest. We’ll see what I do. I’ll keep you posted.

Idea for a farewell gift???

Thanks in advance for your answers.

It’s customary here to give the teacher a farewell gift.
So far, there haven’t been any guidelines on the value of the gift.

There have already been some great suggestions.
I really need to give this some thought.

One thing I can already rule out is an animal.

Idea for a farewell gift???

Hi everyone,

since I’ve gotten such quick and helpful advice here so many times before, I thought I’d ask the
group:

My little daughter is switching schools this summer, and she wants to give her homeroom teacher something
crocheted. But I don’t have any ideas, and neither does she.

Do you have any suggestions?

The homeroom teacher is 29 years old—if that helps.

I’d appreciate any ideas.

Then I’ll start on a teddy bear tonight. My mother-in-law ordered it
