Dear users, dear authors,
how are your UFOs = unfinished objects = neglected craft projects coming along?
Anyone who works through one or more UFOs will be honored as UFO King/Queen.
Anyone who has worked through all their UFOs will receive lots of extra karma points and the honorary title of UFO Conqueror.
--> Then please upload a photo of your idle knitting needles and crochet hooks. :- )
-A shawl from a CAL
-A Möbius that’s meant to be a gift (I’m sure I’ll finish it in August, since the birthday is at the end of August)
-A keychain
-My long-term UFO (well, let’s just call it a UFO…), the motif blanket :)
And what about those who don’t produce UFOs in the first place, but dutifully finish everything they start (crocheting, knitting, crafting, sewing, embroidering...)?
I very rarely have UFOs because it makes me really nervous to have unfinished projects lying around. (In my head, though, I have a lot of UFOs (= ideas waiting to be realized). But I don’t start on them until the current project is finished. So I don’t forget anything, I write all my ideas down on a list. And that list just keeps getting longer...)
I agree with Ruth—one thing at a time! Right now, I’m crocheting a beach bag out of leftover cotton yarn. That’s keeping me busy for now. I don’t know what’s next yet....
So, these UFOs are currently floating around my house:
1. Cell phone case - but it will be finished by next week at the latest, since it's going to be a gift
2. Baby blanket - should be finished by the beginning of October
3. Poncho - I still don't have a great idea for the next pattern
4. A stole - I'm writing the pattern for it
5. Scarf - goes with the pattern above that's in progress
6. Infinity scarf - I can't decide whether I should knit one more pattern repeat or if it's finished
7. Granny blanket - I'm sewing it together at the moment
8. Shawl collar - need to weave in ends and buy buttons
9. An embroidery project, but I won't need it as a gift until the new year
10. Spiral socks
and then there are also 2 finished embroidered Christmas gift tags where I still need to sew the backs on.
Hmmm... let me count...
- 1 fluffy monkey
- 1 almost finished sweater that I have to start over because I miscalculated badly right at the beginning (I already can't be bothered anymore)
- 1 shawl
- 2 versions of coasters, each as a set with a doily
- 2 bags
- 1 bunny
- 1 table doily, I just need to block and steam it
- 1 counting chain

= 10 items.
I think I'll go and steam the table doily right away. It's really no big deal...
Oh dear... I’m actually doing pretty well with just my one UFO at the moment. When it’s finished, it’ll be a doorstop. Right now, I’m just not sure exactly how I want to finish the top end. I’m still missing that spark of inspiration.
This UFO could be finished in August, provided I come up with the right idea. Otherwise, August will be a bit more productive than July.
I don’t have any real UFOs. But I’m working on two things. First, a door wreath. I just finished the border 5 minutes ago (hurray). Now I just need to wash it one more time, and then I’ll sew it onto the wreath.
I found another UFO!
I’d completely forgotten about it. It’s a heart with a colorwork pattern, and since I last worked on it 2.5 years ago and hardly wrote down any of the steps—let alone the planned ones—I no longer even know what I meant by the pattern.
I checked and found a few more UFOs.
- 1 panda
- 1 snowman
- 1 bird
- 1 more monkey
- 1 more coaster
- 1 potholder
______________
= 6,
16 in total for me.
As for me, I’m putting all my crafts, sewing, and so on on hold for now—we’re moving into the apartment downstairs, and I’ll have more than enough to do there.
I still have a few UFOs lying around—I found 12 of them.
5 sweaters
2 tops
1 bag
2 tunics
1 shawl
1 vest
I’m currently working on my 13th UFO. It’s the biggest one—the jacket for my daughter—and it absolutely has to be finished this month. Her birthday is in early September, and she’s supposed to get it then.
It’s crazy what’s buzzing around among you!
I just couldn’t do that myself. When I start a project, I’m always looking forward to seeing what it’ll look like when it’s finished! With big, long-term projects, I might squeeze in a small project here and there, but I keep at it steadily until the last end is woven in. If I notice that something isn’t turning out the way I want, I rip it out right away.
I’d be curious to know: How do all your UFOs even come about?
The thing is...
I’m definitely happy when a project is finished...
But then you find something that’s EVEN more interesting at the moment and just have to start that, too.
Then someone asks for something, and you want to start that right away as well...
And once the madness really takes off, you’re trapped in UFO hell and just keep piling up more and more UFOs :D
You’re going to laugh… I found another UFO! On the table, right under my nose! I put it in the letter tray in a folder so I wouldn’t forget it :-D
My study is clearly under the control of UFOs… 17 in total, if I don’t find anything else…
Nadeleule
, aliens have stolen my brain for crochet experiments, that’s why there are so many UFOs :-D
Nah, I’m just like Krea_Tina. And on top of that, when I’m trying out a pattern for one project, variations for something else just pop up on their own—and then they sit there waiting. Or you hit a snag and don’t have an idea for how to solve it... or you work on something for too long, and then the season for something else rolls around, and you urgently need to create something for Christmas/Easter/Mother’s Day/etc. Then the first project gets put on hold ))))
I’m also a “monogamous” knitter. I don’t start something new until I’ve finished something else. Anything else just wouldn’t work for me. I’ve already tried it :-)
Hi everyone.
I usually only read here because I’m not sure whether every reader is allowed to post or only those who also have a shop, since that’s almost always mentioned at the end.
Well, anyway, after a 30-year break to raise my kids, I’ve rediscovered knitting and crocheting. And after spending several years making nothing but socks, I’m now daring to take on bigger projects again. And before you know it, I’ve already got some UFOs on the go.
1. A pair of socks; I’m at the heel of the second one.
2. A Hypno (pattern bought here)
3. A Beatrice triangle shawl (using up leftover yarn)
4. Various nets (just need to weave in ends and sew on the Initiative Handarbeiten labels.)
And if this counts too:
In my yarn cupboard, there are 3 packs of yarn waiting for sweaters for my sons for Christmas, as well as
yarn I brought back from a holiday in Ireland for a hat, not to mention the remaining 3 kilos of sock yarn from my Opal yarn subscription.
So really, paid work just gets in the way. 🤣🤣🤣
@Oreyafan,
you don't need to have a shop to join in writing here. Anyone who has an account is welcome to take part in the discussions or start new threads.
It would be lovely if you joined in more often.
Have fun.
@Oreyafan,
I think many people believe, like you, that only authors are allowed to join in here. I think that’s a real shame! So to all “just” users: Please do take part in the posts too! We authors really don’t want to be only among ourselves!
Honestly, I envy everyone who’s disciplined enough to only start something new once the last ends have been woven in. Unfortunately, I fall into the other category… That said, I always need a craft project for when I’m on the go—one that isn’t too big or too complicated. And then something even more urgent, like a birthday, always comes up…
Off the top of my head, I can think of the following UFOs:
- 3 crocheted nets
- 2 pairs of socks
- 1 table runner made of granny squares
- 1 hippo
- 1 toddler jacket
- 1 shawl
