Finish a UFO this week: can you do it?

Dear community,

Can you finish or complete a UFO (unfinished object / craft project) this week, even unravel it or throw it away if necessary?

You’ll find new UFOs here. 

Have you already finished all your UFOs and don’t have any left?

Unfortunately, I don’t have any UFOs to share either, but I am moving a bit slowly at the moment. But that little bear is guaranteed to be finished this week—probably today or tomorrow at the latest—and then I’ll start a new project.

UFOs—yes, I still have some lying around: pom-pom animals, two penguins, and a little pig; I’ve hidden them in the closet for now. 🤭
I’m also making slow progress right now, but my sweater will definitely be finished today—after what feels like 100 times of unraveling, it’s now knitted instead of crocheted. Just need to finish the neckline and weave in the ends, then give it a quick rinse—and when it gets cooler, it’ll be ready to wear. Fall is coming slowly, but it’s coming. It was 13° this morning—brr, brr—and now it’s back up to 24°.

Well, and then I’ll probably start a new project—I still have some “spring yarn” lying around.😉😆

I guess for the first time in my life, I’ll have some UFOs, because I can’t knit right now—my left hand hurts when I pick up knitting needles and try to knit. I’m having a severe flare-up of arthritis, with nodules and such, and I can barely make a fist, let alone knit.

😄 The sweater is done—I gave it a quick wash, and now it’s lying on the clothes dryer out on the balcony, drying. I tried it on again before hand-washing it—it fits 😉—so it won’t become a UFO after all, despite the messing around. 😉

Just finished it after a year—all that was left was to stuff it and sew on the beak:

It’s the size of a pillow. 

The green fabric is leftover from a pillow I shortened for my neighbor. The blue fabric is from an old pair of trousers of mine with holes in them. Unfortunately, I didn’t pay attention to the eyes—they’re not at the same height. 🙄😵‍💫🤨😒

Dear Anja, the little bird turned out really beautiful—it’s sitting in a starting position, but it’s taking a break and resting for a moment. Maybe it’s waiting for some food? The colors go together really well, too.

Since I’m curious, I’m also interested in the background in the picture. How did you manage that delicate mint and pink color gradient? Do you have fabric or paper like that, or how did you do it? Would you mind telling me—or us?

Dear Regina, I’m so happy for you that your little sweater—which you started so many times—is finally finished and just needs to dry. I always find it exciting to see if it still fits just as well after washing as it did before. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hope you enjoy wearing it.

this is a photo program that removes backgrounds and then suggests what you might want to put there instead. My rooms aren’t exactly the most photo-friendly, so I can’t really take nice pictures there.

Regina inspired me—I hadn’t knitted in a long time, so I cast on something right away, and lo and behold: this yarn looks much better knitted than crocheted! However, I’m still having trouble understanding the pattern—the text and photos don’t match up. I think something’s missing. The pattern is from here; I think it was designed for a magazine. 

I’m still waiting for my buttons to arrive.

Then I can finish my cardigan.

Dear Ina, yes, my sweater fits just as well after drying as it did before washing. It’s not pure wool and can be machine-washed at 30°, but it’s not itchy—it feels nice against the skin. Now it’s all finished and sitting in the closet, waiting for cooler weather. They’re saying it’ll get up to 30° again today. Right now it’s a pleasant 20°—I wish it could stay that way.<\/p>

Dear Anja, I’m so glad I inspired you. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll find the mistake in the pattern. And yes, I prefer knitting, too—I think it’s prettier, softer, so somehow it just looks better to me—even though there are some beautiful crochet patterns out there.  <\/p>

I tried out the yarn from the sweater above with different patterns—first crocheting, then knitting—and kept unraveling it over and over. This yarn 🧶 just doesn’t work with any pattern; it looks best in stockinette stitch. And I love knitting raglan the most—I make a gauge swatch and then calculate the number of stitches I need—it’s always worked out so far. 😉😇<\/p>

My 2024 embroidery project won’t be finished anytime soon, but I’m making progress

With an embroidery project like this, I wouldn’t be in any rush either 😄 The main thing is to see that you’re making progress every now and then.

And with a project from 2024, you can be happy about every little bit of progress.

Phew, you’re all so hard at work — I’ve only knitted two little dolls in the last few weeks.... One of them is for my mom and is meant to bring her a little joy at the nursing home (if that’s even possible with her advancing dementia)...

I also still have quite a few UFOs lying by my sewing machine, just waiting to be started or finished...
