Do you have a first-grader, a kindergartener, or a child changing schools this year?

Dear users, dear authors,
Do you have a child or grandchild this year who is starting kindergarten or school, changing schools, or graduating?
Will you be making something handmade for the occasion?
Let me know.

Yessssss, my youngest is starting school this year, and I think I'm more excited than he is. And yes, I'm already hard at work crocheting for the start of school. Which isn't all that easy for a boy. After all, it shouldn't look too cutesy. The pencil cases are already finished, and now I'm crocheting a so-called school cone animal. We'll see how it turns out. ;) ;) ;)

Best, Susann

Hi,

my goddaughter Sophia is starting school this year.

I’m still thinking about whether I should crochet something for her—and if so, what.

Do you have any ideas?

She already got a roll-up pencil case for preschool.

Best wishes, Heike

I completely forgot about my youngest daughter.
She’s moving from elementary school to secondary school this year.

So right now I’m busy preparing her farewell gifts.
I’m still thinking about it...

I don’t have anyone this year, but next year our grandson will be starting school, and yesterday at swimming lessons the moms were talking about school cones.

People are knitting, crocheting, felting, and sewing them now, too. When my children started school, I got to decorate or glue things onto a blank made of construction paper.

I’ll soon start looking into the topic of school cones, because my daughter thought a sewn version was great, one that can later be turned into a pillow. That sounds exciting and interesting.

I’m already a grandma
and have grandchildren who are getting their driver’s licenses :-)
But I’m also the godmother of twins
who are starting school this year, and...
the biggest compliment from those two little ones was
“Godmother, can you knit us some slippers for school?”
isn’t that just sooo sweet?

Best regards,
Birgit

Well, none of my relatives have kids yet... But the first four are on their way right now :)

In 6–7 years, I’ll probably be able to chime in too, hehe

@heike: something that always works is a keychain :) A cute little animal for the school cone or pencil case.

My grandson started school last year. I crocheted him a little guardian angel (with a backpack and a school cone) to hang from his bag. He really liked it.

My daughter is moving from elementary school to high school; we're not crocheting anything specifically for the school change. I think she'll come up with something again, this time as a personal farewell gift for the teachers.

At our kindergarten, the school cones were made during a parent-child craft afternoon; you could choose existing motifs or design them freely.

I haven't seen any crocheted or sewn school cones here yet. I guess people around here only do crafts in secret. :-)
