Dear users, dear authors,
The holidays
are coming up soon. Do you have any vacation
plans?
Will you be doing any crafts while on vacation or checking out Crazypatterns
online?
Let me know.
We won’t be taking a big vacation until October, since we no longer have school-age children and my husband is still working for another year. Whether we end up going away depends on how I’m doing with walking and otherwise, because my disability often causes me problems, and it’s better to stay home in those cases. If we do go, my dream destination is always the island of Sylt—it’s beautiful in the fall and not as crowded anymore.
This year, we’re staying home. Our son is currently on his way to Lake Garda in Italy with his girlfriend. Our little one wanted to go to Ameland with her church group again this year. We’ll just enjoy the peace and quiet at home ;)
I won’t be going on vacation this year—I still have surgeries and various therapies coming up.
So every day I’m at home and don’t have a treatment will feel like a vacation.
Hopefully I’ll be in the mood for crafting, and I’ll be online at crazypatterns
every day as much as possible.
I wish everyone a great vacation, whether at home or traveling—just enjoy the time and make the most of it :-)
We’re going to spend our vacation at home again this year (or rather: on our patio ;)).
We actually wanted to go to Italy, but unfortunately we missed out on the best deals for our dream resort, and since I’m not sure how I’ll be feeling physically by then, I’d rather not make any plans.
But since our garden will be finished this year (the landscaper is here right now, putting the finishing touches on everything—yay!), we’re also looking forward to this vacation :)
Next week we’re hitting the road in our RV for three weeks in France—we’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.
And the best part is, we don’t know exactly where we’ll end up yet. We’re just going to see where the road takes us.
One little town in Alsace is definitely on the itinerary, though—it has the best craft store I know.
First, we’re heading to Wetzlar for a few days over Pentecost. A very dear friend of
ours has an apartment there that she doesn’t live in herself and is letting us use.
Then, on June 29, we’re off to the Allgäu for a week.
We’re really looking forward to that.
Before that, though, we still have some school-related stress to deal with. Our little one is changing schools and still
has lots of events coming up, like an overnight stay, the graduation ceremony, and so on.
Since my little son wants to take summer classes at the university, we’ll be having a staycation and spending time in the garden at my parents’ place. I’m also thinking about getting another dog, so a vacation isn’t really an option. Maybe a few day trips, but we’ll mostly be heading to the outdoor pool—with craft supplies in tow—and since my boss won’t be around much this summer, I won’t be able to get much extended time off anyway, apart from a few days.
We are currently in Bad Steben for a 3-week spa stay. The Franconian Forest is a beautiful, quiet hiking area. We have a 2-room vacation apartment here, even with very fast internet and a bread roll delivery service. Unfortunately, everything is too small for me on the smartphone, so just a short note: vacation maybe in August / September to the Allgäu. If I don’t have to have treatments again.
We already spent two weeks on a cruise in the Caribbean this year.
Now my husband is scheduled for surgery—he’s getting a new shoulder joint. If that goes well, he’ll need knee surgery next. Let’s hope everything goes smoothly.
We’ve already booked our next vacation for March 2020. We’re flying to South Africa, boarding a cruise ship there, and will be traveling for four weeks. We’ll end the trip in Mallorca. We’re really looking forward to it. In the meantime, I’m taking a long weekend trip to Lüneburg, Bremen, and Hamburg with my “girls”—our card-playing group. We’ve been together for 25 years now.
This year, it’s been kind of tough for us to coordinate our schedules… there’s always something coming up, so we can’t really find a long stretch of time together. We have quite a few training sessions, on-call shifts, and scheduled installations coming up (my husband is a network engineer…), so for now, we’ll be taking a few short trips. In June, for example, we’re heading to Bad Tölz for my husband’s goddaughter’s confirmation, and we’ll be staying a few extra days there… then in July we’ll spend 4 days on the coast in the Netherlands, and in August we’ll be at Lake Constance for a week… Since my sweetheart is currently racking up a lot of overtime hours that he’ll have to take off later, he’s expecting to have about 6–7 weeks of time off at the end of the year, including vacation days—that’s how it was last year, too. So we’ll definitely be taking a few more short trips, and maybe we’ll even go on a longer, spontaneous trip toward the end of the year.
Birgit, Scotland is great.
We’ve already been there, but unfortunately our luggage didn’t arrive until 6 days later. Since we hadn’t booked anything in advance and actually wanted to find a new place to stay every day, that was really annoying...
But the people there are so super nice—we ended up buying some basic clothes in Glasgow and showed up at our first B&B with our shopping bags—which drew some confused looks. We explained the situation and asked the owner if there was a laundromat in town—because new underwear without washing it? Ewwww... Of course there wasn’t one, but the B&B owner came right back to us five minutes later with an empty laundry basket and said he actually had a machine and would just run a load for us. When we got back from dinner, everything was washed and dried, lying on the bed.
Yeah, we met such wonderful people throughout the whole trip.
By the way, the country is also very beautiful and worth seeing... and there are these wonderful sheep roaming all over the place...
Ah, that would be a great destination to visit again.
Sandra, St. Gilgen is absolutely beautiful. You have a lot to look forward to there. We’re already thinking about whether we’ll take our RV there again this year.
Otherwise, we like to take short trips in the RV—spontaneously, depending on the weather. Kelheim on the Danube is still on our list, and Bernau at some point. And also the Allgäu and Lake Constance. During the hot summer months, we prefer to stay home in the garden. Starting in July, it’s time for the berry harvest, which we’re really looking forward to.
This year, I’m taking my three boys to the Baltic Sea for a health retreat. We’re all really excited and looking forward to it so much. It was a stroke of luck because someone canceled. My husband will join us for the last week. That’ll be our summer vacation.
