Hi,

here’s my yarn usage so far in 2018:

for my Easter Bunny girl: 250 gr. of pink yarn, 50 gr. of white yarn
for my poncho: a total of 1200 gr. of yarn, 500 gr. of which was used in 2018

So far, that brings my total yarn usage to 800 gr.

Best regards, Heike

I think that’s great—I’m in!

For the loop scarf for my cousin’s birthday: 120 grams of yarn cake in summer colors—it was a leftover I found in the attic.

For the 5 dog toys for our pup: about 100 grams of various leftover yarn.

For the special shawl with a loop effect for my coworker: one 200-gram yarn cake.

And I’m amazed at how much I’ve already made this month—and the month isn’t even over yet.

I think this is a great idea, because when I write it down on scraps of paper, they always disappear, and I don't like collecting yarn labels.

So far I've used 400g (160m~50g) of purple merino wool
100g (180m~50g) of light grey merino wool
(but there'll be a bit more, the sweater isn't finished yet)
40g (115m~50g) of light yellow cotton yarn for a little bunny
50 g (115m~50g) of mint cotton yarn for a little bunny
50g (125m~50g) of pink/multicoloured cotton yarn for a wreath
and there will surely be more ;)

@Users,
if you'd like, you can also add a few notes about each project.
How it went, whether you learned anything new, where the difficulties and challenges were, etc.

@Authors,
Of course, you can do that too, but it shouldn't drift into advertising. We have enough threads for that.

Josefa, can I copy my own latest post with the usage details, or should I just keep adding what I’ve just finished working on?
Or maybe a monthly summary?

I don’t want it to turn into one of those never-ending posts, since I’ve already made over 20 things?

Just yesterday, I finished the loop scarf for my cousin. 120 grams in light summer colors—leftovers from a yarn cake that wasn’t quite used up.

I think this is a great idea—though it’s sometimes a bit tricky for me with the small projects (and the scraps, too, by the way!), since they only use up a tiny bit of material each time! But I’ll do my best…

If you put effort into it and it matters to you, then it belongs here in the thread too.
It’s that simple. :-)

Wow, you are so good at calculating and writing things down!
That is really not my thing at all, weighing everything. I’ve also already given away quite a bit that I can’t calculate anymore. And the yarn I’m knitting with right now is super light. Before I get frustrated that it’s too little, I’d rather leave it.

But I admire you for how much you’ve worked through! :-)

For me, my diet yarn—200 g of sock yarn—will become a finished poncho this month. :-)
If I extrapolate it, I’ll probably come to 1000 kg of processed yarn, including leftovers.

1,000 kg?
That’s a metric ton of yarn.
Are you sure?

That would be crazy :)
Or maybe the yarn is mixed with lead fibers and is therefore veeeery heavy xD

Putting stones in your yarn basket isn’t a good idea. :- ) This isn’t the fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood” with the big bad wolf, after all.

Oops... that was a typo! Of course, it’s 1,000 g—that is, 1 kg.
1,000 g just sounds like a lot more... ;-)

I’m just imagining a mountain of yarn that weighs 1 metric ton.
So cozy and soft—you could just jump right in!
And all around it, a bunch of crochet and knitting enthusiasts getting to work turning that huge mountain of yarn into a huge mountain of little animals, jackets, scarves, socks—whatever everyone likes.

I have to say, that’s a really lovely image.

Yes, that’s really a lovely idea. We’d probably end up with a whole house full of yarn. Oh, how cozy! :-)

Once it’s all finished, we could probably fill a whole store with it.

I’m currently at 2,600 meters of yarn used. I just started a blanket made from sock yarn and plan to use up a lot of my leftover yarn in the process. That’s a bit of a bummer because the leftover yarn project is now over, and I definitely won’t finish the blanket during UFO Week :-)

The leftovers project runs until the 28th. It will end together with UFO Week.
But we’ll have another UFO Week before Easter.

So now it’s the last day, and I’ll do a summary.

In January I said I used 690 grams

In February:
Car seats—almost everything made from leftover yarn. Yarn used: 1450 grams
Egg cups for Easter made from leftover yarn, 50 grams in total
Long-term project: blanket for my daughter, about 250 grams crocheted this month

So in February a total of 1,750 grams  - and my pile of leftovers has gotten very small because of it

A probably silly question I’ve been asking myself for a while: How do you calculate the number of meters when you’re not using whole skeins?

Another month has gone by already. Time flies so quickly, and spring has now arrived here too!

In January I said I used up 690 grams
February: a total of 1,750 grams used up

In March I used up the following:

Triangular shawl for my friend - 400 grams (2x 200-gram Bobbel)
Squirrel for my daughter's friend for her birthday - approx. 20 grams (very small)
Otherwise I only tested a lot of new things, but didn't really finish anything or keep working on anything....

So in March I used up 420 grams

You’re all incredibly productive! I do feel like I’m knitting and crocheting quite a lot, but it hardly shows in my usage: 34g here, a few grams there (for a bag charm)... I’m afraid I’ll never manage to use up my stash this way!

Hello,

my yarn usage so far in 2018:

for my Easter bunny girl: 250 g pink yarn, 50 g white yarn
for my poncho: 1200 g of yarn total, 500 g of that in 2018
for the Angry Birds: 300 g yarn
for a lion: 160 g yarn
for a triangular shawl: 300 g Bobbel
for a 2nd triangular shawl: 200 g Bobbel

So that brings my yarn usage so far to 1,760 g.

added to that:

for 11 funny egg cups: 150 g yarn a few leftovers
for an Easter nest: 100 g yarn
for 2 crochet bears: 250 g yarn
for 2 cosmetic pouches: 200 g yarn
for 6 tissue pouches: 200 g yarn
for 1 table runner: 250 g yarn

so my usage grows to: 2,910 g of yarn

Oh my God, that works out to 58 balls of yarn.
And my stash is still huge, even though I’ve already used up a lot
of it.

But the diet continues, because I want world domination. ;-)

 Best, Heike

Hello everyone,

I just took the time to add up my total yarn usage for 2018 in
meters, and I think it really adds up to quite a bit.
This year, I designed exactly 34 patterns and used 34,470 m
of yarn for them. That’s an average of just under 1,000 m per pattern.
Actually, there’s about 6,000 m more, but I won’t be publishing those patterns until 2019.

Best wishes and have a great start to the week—Claudia
