Dear users, dear authors,
how do you handle your Christmas gifts?
How many of them do you make yourself? Who gets what?
Let me know.

Hi,

my goddaughter (6) and her sister (8) are getting a crocheted
baby doll and a little something for their savings accounts.

My oldest (12) is getting a Levi’s hoodie, which she’s been asking for.
My youngest (9) is getting an Amazon gift card, unless she thinks of
something else.

My cousin’s two little ones are getting something crocheted. The boy
is getting a tractor, and the girl is getting a change of clothes for her Emmi doll.

Since we adults don’t exchange gifts among ourselves anymore, that’s all taken care of.

Best regards, Heike

My mom is getting a crocheted table runner, and my parents are getting tickets to the Wolfgang Petry musical (I’m so excited—of course I’m going too; my husband is happily volunteering to watch Anton :-))))

My husband is getting theater tickets for “Der goldene Handschuh” along with a delicious meal (with me, of course)

Anton is getting a wooden shape-sorting toy, a puzzle, accessories for his marble run, and a seek-and-find book about the Elbphilharmonie

Then my parents, my husband, and my mother-in-law will each get a photo book of Anton’s first year. My husband is in charge of my mother-in-law’s gift… He’ll probably start thinking about it on December 23… I’m all set with the gifts

We adults don’t really exchange gifts within the family anymore—just little trinkets at most. Our kids’ wish lists aren’t finalized yet; we’re waiting until two weeks before Christmas.
I don’t give handmade gifts for Christmas—nobody I know is interested in them or would appreciate the effort.
I once crocheted a sweater and a poncho for my best friend, but those items are just lying around somewhere in her closet, buried under what feels like 10,000 other pieces of clothing... I love her dearly, but she doesn’t share my passion for yarn at all, so she’ll get something store-bought.

We’ve stopped exchanging gifts among adults.
My 2-year-old godchild will get something, of course — I’m already coordinating with the parents — and I’ve also knitted a hat and scarf for her.

We’ve actually stopped exchanging gifts among ourselves. But everyone loves homemade gifts. So I’m giving my niece a hand-crocheted unicorn shawl, and for my mom I’m currently crocheting the Lorenz Reindeer lamp from kifile-design, which I discovered here at Crazypatterns. I like it so much that I’m going to crochet one for myself, too.

We adults don’t exchange gifts anymore. My grandkids get something knitted or crocheted. My son’s youngest (2 1/2 years old) is getting a new pair of leggings and some more play food for her play kitchen. She absolutely loves playing with that. If I can manage it, she’ll also get a crocheted cuddly teddy bear. She loves teddy bears just as much as I do. :)

My older granddaughter (12) wants wrist warmers, and that’s exactly what she’ll get. That’s it for the ones who are into handmade things.

I don’t really have any ideas for the others yet… but there’s still plenty of time.

For us, it gets somehow more complicated and chaotic every year—at least that’s how it seems to me...
Our two sons draw and write their wish lists, which are then sent to the Christ Child in Engelskirchen. That’s when I step in—I make sure to get the (reasonable) gifts within the budget for the two of them, meaning from us, Grandma & Grandpa, aunts, and uncles—and then the gifts are divided up among the gift-givers. This prevents duplicate purchases and disappointed faces under the Christmas tree. Officially, though, all the gifts still come from Santa Claus.
We adults also exchange gifts with each other; everyone writes their wish list, and then we figure out who gives what to whom and who buys what—all in such a way that the recipient doesn’t know what they’re getting from whom... It sounds complicated, and it is… especially when some items on the list are no longer available, Grandma and Grandpa’s lists are—as always—way too short, and half of the few items on them end up being crossed off because, for example, my husband refuses to give gift cards or cash.

I don’t give handmade gifts very often—for one thing, they’re only rarely requested, and for another, I’d usually lack the time to make them during the stressful pre-Christmas rush. So I usually only give handmade gifts for birthdays.

In our family, we still give gifts to everyone. They don’t have to be big or expensive, just right for the person. I can always think of something, and I often buy things throughout the year when I think they’d make a lovely gift.

I’ve always (since the children were little) made or prepared something for Christmas. My family would be disappointed if there were no handmade things. I enjoy doing it, and everyone is happy about it (most of the time). Often, people even ask specifically for something from my handmade items. Last year, my cousin asked for little crocheted snails, and of course she got them too.
