When do you get started on Christmas?

Dear users, dear authors,
when do you start on the patterns for Christmas, Advent, and gifts? Let me know.

Well, I already have the yarn cake—does that count? I also know exactly what I want to make. But I won’t start until September. That’s because I want to finish a few other things first.
Although, if I don’t like my cape as much as I imagine I will (I’m very tall, and if, contrary to expectations, it turns out too short), I’ll just repurpose it as a Christmas gift. In that case, I’ll have already started back in March.

Well, before and during summer vacation, I don’t give Christmas any thought.

After that, I can slowly get started :)

But Christmas comes around way too fast and unexpectedly anyway—as always.

Do you feel the same way? Every year, Christmas comes all of a sudden and without warning, and you always end up having to finish things at the very last minute.
It’s a phenomenon that catches me off guard every single year! No matter when I start.

Well, absolutely!

There are only two options: "There's still ages to go until Christmas!" and "Oh sh...! It's almost here and I'm still missing tons of gifts!"
There's simply nothing in between :D

At least I already have the yarn. I’ll probably get started as early as August this year.

I’m already thinking about it. I can’t say yet when I’ll actually get started, but probably in three or four weeks—and very slowly at first.

Christmas is still soooo far away....
Since I’m a summer person, I enjoy summer while it lasts and push thoughts of the cold, dark season far, far away.
In the fall, I start thinking about it for the first time, and then at the last minute, I end up putting everything into action :)

I usually start to panic about two weeks before it all begins :-)

Since I was too late last year, I’ve already finished my Christmas and New Year’s Eve patterns this year! First! Take that! ;)

Hi,

The worst thing for me is always that the most wonderful
patterns are uploaded here just before Christmas, and that keeps giving me new ideas.

Please, please, dear designers, publish your Christmas patterns now already.
;-)

Best regards, Heike

Well, I don’t even want to think about Christmas yet—since winter lasts soooo long here, I’m enjoying summer for as long as I can.
Right now, I’m still busy with summery crochet projects.
Christmas is still a long way off. Maybe I’ll start about four weeks before then.

Here’s how it’ll go for me:
Christmas? Still ages away.
Christmas? I could start thinking about it.
Christmas? Darn, too late!
Christmas? There’s always next year.

Hi,
I couldn’t really say an exact start time either—the first ideas usually come around September/October. They usually only get put into practice 4–6 weeks beforehand =)

February 26, 2018 = A late start on a year-long temperature blanket, which of course won’t be quite finished by Christmas (there’s a photo!), but will be finished and given as a gift at the beginning of 2019. Final size approx. 220 x 130 cm, as a bedspread

@ Elisande: That looks great.

I actually make little things throughout the year that also work well for Christmas. The real busy season starts in October.

I actually picked out a few Christmas patterns today. We'll see, maybe I’ll start something this week after all.

I’m also going to start on Christmas gifts this week. Since I’m still pretty new to sewing, I’m worried that otherwise the projects I have planned won’t be finished by Christmas.

I’m slowly getting interested in winter/Christmas, and I’m browsing for inspiration. I’ve already crocheted a little something. But for now, autumn and Halloween are still at the top of my crafting list, and I need to get ready for them.

I think I’ll start at the end of the month.

First, I need to make a list of everything I want to do
and then work my way through it.

I already have a rough idea of who should get what, but there are
always so many things that come up.

Best regards, Heike

So, how’s Christmas planning going? ;)
The sooner you start, the more time you’ll have for Christmas patterns or something like that. :-)

Well, I haven’t given Christmas a second thought yet—my head is full of all sorts of things, just not Christmas :D

But yeah… Christmas will be here all of a sudden and unexpectedly, just like every year ;)

You know how it goes.
You should start preparing for Christmas right after New Year’s Eve at the very latest. Last-minute Christmas preparations start right after Easter.
If you wait until gingerbread is on store shelves in the summer heat, you’re too late. :-)

Winter isn’t even over yet—today is—supposedly—the first nice day—will Christmas really come around again? I still need to finish the birthday gifts for my parents’ 70th birthday—I have one ready, but two more to go—plus a few other projects on the side. Since I’m going back to school in September and am already busy with preparations, I won’t have much time for crafts in the near future. But I’m sure a Christmas decoration or two will fly off my needles in the next few months.
