No Yarn Diet / no Yarn Emperor/Empress until January + UFO/Wollstube dates

I’m already really looking forward to the (pre-)Christmas season.

I’d love to start decorating the apartment right now.
But I’m going to wait until November 18–19, 2017, but then I’ll
decorate.

I’m curious to see how much of my to-do list I’ll be able to crochet
. Hopefully it all works out.

No Yarn Diet / no Yarn Emperor/Empress until January + UFO/Wollstube dates

Hello,

I’d like to join the Heavenly Yarn Room too.
Since I still have a few projects on my list for Christmas,
it’s twice as much fun to crochet them.

Yesterday I ordered 3 yarn cakes for scarves for my daughters and me.
I’ve never worked with a yarn cake before, so I’m very excited.

Also, for all the Christmas projects, I’m trying not to buy any
more new yarn, but to make everything from my stash by
crocheting.

Best, Heike

What have you been crafting today?

Hi,

I started a new sweater for myself last night, and I’m
still working on the sleigh for my reindeer.

This morning I worked on two rows of the sweater, and for tonight
I plan to continue working on the sleigh.
My daughters ask me every day when the sleigh
will finally be finished.

Best wishes, Heike

New round of the UFO project + project wrap-up Yarn Emperor / Yarn Diet

Hello everyone and good morning!

As part of my yarn diet, I used up the following yarn:

for my sweater: 11 x 50 gr. Lisa Premium (= 550 gr.)
for Konrad the Pumpkin: 3 x 50 gr. Catania (= 150 gr.)
for my reindeer and parts of the sleigh: 8 x 50 gr. Lisa Premium (= 400 gr.)
for my Christmas table runner: 6 x 50 gr. Catania (= 300 gr.)

which totals: 1,400 gr. of yarn or 28 balls of 50 gr. each.

I’ll upload photos of my crocheted creations tonight after work.

Best, Heike

The weekend is almost here :-)

Hi Josefa,

I have exactly 2 hours left until the weekend. Thank goodness.

At lunchtime today, I planned to organize
my closet and, if there’s still time, sort through my yarn.
Tomorrow, I’ll be crocheting, tidying up, and doing laundry.
On Sunday at noon, I’m taking the kids to an indoor play park. I
can crochet there while the little ones let off steam ;-)

Best regards, Heike

Hi,

I’m diligently sticking to my “yarn diet” ;-) and also to my “regular diet.”

Dear Josefa,

how will this work on Monday?
Will you start a separate thread for the Yarn Queen where
everyone can post photos with details of the yarn they used?

Or how exactly should I imagine it?

Do you have a favorite stitch?

I like working single crochet and half double crochet stitches best.

I don’t like double, triple, or quadruple crochet stitches at all.

Just one more hour, then I’ll pick up the kids and my husband
and we’ll head home.

First, I’ll check their homework, and then it’s time to crochet.

I’m really looking forward to it.

Hi everyone,

thank goodness it’s already Thursday.
The weekend is calling.
I really want to get some crocheting done.

I’m sitting here at work and not much is going on.
My fingers are itching because I know that back home, the table runner I
started is lying there, waiting for me
to keep crocheting.

Man, I hope the workday ends soon.

Sorry for the venting post.

Love, Heike

How are you all doing? What are you up to? How’s it going?

Hi,

I’m actually doing pretty well. I have a bit of a cold, and my oldest
had a stomach bug earlier this week.

I haven’t bought any yarn because I’m participating in the Wollkaiserin project and
want to use up my stash.

I started a table runner for Christmas the day before yesterday, and I finished my
sweater last week and Konrad Kürbis the day before yesterday.

This morning I’ve already spent 10 min. ;-) crocheting on my table runner.
I’d love to have more time to crochet. But with a full-time job, two kids, and
a husband, I have to be content with the time I have.

Best regards, Heike

Survey for All Crochet Lovers

Hello,

I’m starting a little survey:

How long have you been crocheting, and what have you crocheted so far?

I started crocheting in February 2012.

My first project was a bucket bag from a crochet kit from Aldi.

That went so well that I crocheted a second bucket bag.

I’ll try to list which projects I’ve crocheted, although I’m sure I’ll forget
one or two:

2 bucket bags
1 Christmas tree (about 60 cm tall)
6 Christmas moose
10 snowmen with little gift sacks
10 worry eaters
1 Advent calendar
2 door wreaths
1 giant salamander
5 mermaid blankets
1 children’s poncho
3 circle vests
2 winter sweaters
2 ponchos
2 vests
1 soul warmer
1 Lotta, the snow girl
1 giant cat
2 Minions
3 Minnie Mice (about 50 cm tall)
4 lucky pigs
1 reindeer (still without a sleigh)
1 table runner
2 Hello Kitty bags
3 mandala bags
1 handbag for my older daughter
2 hats
6 roll-up pencil cases
1 water lily
1 birthday caterpillar for 8 candles
5 ghosts
1 large Halloween witch
1 large owl as a pillow
1 dragon
1 horse carousel with music box
1 Peter sun with music box
2 cuddle cloths
several small amigurumi

Oh my God, that really adds up to quite a bit.

So now it’s your turn.

Best, Heike

Materials + Techniques: New Topics

Hello,

I've been crocheting for 5.5 years now.
But I do have one question.

Can someone explain Bobbel yarn cakes to me?
What does 3- or 4-ply yarn mean, and what is the difference?
How do I know what I need to use, or can I also
use a 3-ply yarn if 4-ply is specified?

Please enlighten me.

Thank you.

What’s going on with you guys? How are you doing—how are your projects coming along?

Hello and good morning,

Tell me, how are your projects coming along? Did you get a lot of work done over
the weekend?

I’ll start.

I started a new project on Friday—Konrad the Pumpkin.
I finished my sweater on Thursday.
My reindeer is still waiting for his sleigh. But then Konrad got
in the way.

All in all, I’m very happy with how things are going.

Wollkaiserin Project – To All Participants

@nadeleule

Unfortunately, I’ll have to keep crocheting for
months WITHOUT buying any new yarn until my husband notices how much I’ve used up.
I have tons of yarn. I was just up in the attic looking for
something, and what did I find?
That’s right: YARN—two boxes full. I didn’t even remember I
still had it.

@moderator

Slowly but surely, it’ll get there.

just wanted to check in and see how the Wool Empress Project is going for you all.

Things are actually going pretty well for me.

I’ve already used up quite a bit of yarn. My sweater is taking shape, and
my reindeer’s sleigh is still waiting to be crocheted. I’m
dragging my feet a bit because it’s such fiddly work.

Let me know how things are going for you.

Losing Weight Together – Motivating Each Other

Hello everyone,

I’m happy to hear (read) that there are even more
people here in the crochet forum who want to lose weight.

I started on July 24, 2017—after our hiking vacation in the mountains
and the “great” photos that followed—and have lost 15 kg so far.
Unfortunately, I still have just as much to go.
But I’ll manage that too.

Best wishes, Heike

Losing Weight Together – Motivating Each Other

I’ve been at it since July 24. It went well at first.
Right now, it’s going a bit so-so.

We’re heading to the mountains for Christmas. Since I already looked like an elephant on vacation
last year, I’d like to
look better this year—
especially in my ski suit.

So let’s get to work.

Have You Bought Yarn Today?

Hi,

I’m on a strict “diet”—in every sense of the word.

I still need to lose a few kilos by Christmas, and my yarn stash is
steadily shrinking, too.

Plus, I HAVE to work through my yarn stash because I’m really short on space.

So I’ll have to stick with it.

Back to School – Has Everything Settled Down?

Hi,

My oldest has moved from elementary school to secondary school.
My goodness, it really is a big adjustment. Lots of teachers,
lots of subjects, and lots of homework.
But my daughter needs it. ;-)

My youngest is now in third grade and is getting grades for the first time.
We didn’t have any grades during her first two years of school.
THAT’S a big change. Because now there are grades for EVERYTHING.

But other than that, things are going well for us.

Halloween and Christmas Crafts: How’s It Going?

Hello,

I'm working on my Christmas decoration (reindeer with sleigh).
But today I found a great Halloween lamp here. I bought the
pattern right away. I still have enough yarn for it
at home.

So I can get started soon. But I want to finish the reindeer first.

Oh my God—and then all the Christmas gifts and and and.

I need TIME.

How much leftover yarn do you have right now?

Hi,

I have an 11-liter box from IKEA full of leftover yarn.
All kinds of colors and types.
I often use it to make small parts for amigurumi or
to sew things together.
My daughters often braid bracelets out of it or make knotted bracelets with it.

A project week would be a great idea.

I’d love to join in.

But please, only once the Wollkaiserin project is finished.
Otherwise, I’ll have to ask for unpaid leave ;-)

What are you working on right now?

Hello,

I’m currently crocheting a reindeer with a sleigh as a Christmas decoration.
I’ll be glad when I’m done with it, because there are really a lot of small
to tiny pieces. It’s annoying and takes a long time.

In between, I keep crocheting a little ghost for a tea light,
so that I’ll definitely have plenty for Halloween.

I’m also really eager to start on my new sweater
as well as my new Christmas table runner.

My to-do list keeps growing and something is added every day.

Dear Lord, I need time.

Question about a type of yarn

Question about a type of yarn

Hi everyone,

I have a question about a type of yarn.

I still have a small amount of Lisa Uni by Gründl left.
About four weeks ago, I ordered Lisa Premium by Gründl.

I thought Lisa Uni had been renamed Lisa Premium, but I’ve
now realized that the quality is completely different. The Lisa Uni is
somehow thinner and softer, whereas the Lisa Premium is
comparable to Bravo.

The yardage (LL) is the same for both.

Can you tell me if this is supposed to be the same yarn and they just changed the name,
or if it’s a new type of yarn?

Wishlist patterns

Hi,

oh my gosh, I have 87 patterns on my wish list.

I do want to buy the patterns at some point and then
crochet them,

but what’s holding me back at the moment is the fact that I already have so many
patterns that haven’t all been crocheted yet, and that buying
a new pattern also means buying new yarn.

Since I’m currently working through my yarn stash (I’m participating in the
“Wollkaiserin” project—I think that’s what it’s called), I don’t really want to buy any
new yarn right now.

Because my fingers are already itching ;-)

Users who’d like to become authors // please join the discussion

Hello,

I’ve already designed two things myself.

Unfortunately, so far I haven’t dared to write the pattern in a way
that would make it suitable for selling.

I’m also a bit inexperienced when it comes to the legal side of things.
Taxes and so on.

Since I work full-time and my husband is unable to work due to illness, I don’t
know how things work with the tax office.

That has kept me from writing patterns in a way that I could
sell them.

Best regards, Heike

Anyone else feel this way?

Hi,

oh great, a “join-in” day—I’m definitely jumping right in.

My question for you:

Do you ever see a pattern and fall in love with it right
away, so you just have to buy it?
Sometimes I see patterns here that I just have
to have right away, and I usually start on them the very same day.

And then other times, I’m looking for a pattern for something that’s
been floating around in my head, and I can’t find anything that makes me go, “Wow, that’s it.”

Sometimes it’s like I’m under a spell.

How about you?

Love, Heike

Holiday – what are you doing today?

Hello and good morning,

okay, the holiday is already over, but I still want to tell you what we
did.

We had really great weather, the sun shone all day, but it was cold.
We went hiking with a family we're friends with to a castle in our area,
where there was a family festival with lots of great things for the children. On the way, we
collected lots of chestnuts.

All in all, it was a lovely, successful day.

In the evening, I did a bit of crocheting ;-)

It's Friday and the hook is calling.....

That sounds great.

Our fall break starts today. So we don’t have to do
any homework or study.

My husband has a guys’ day out tomorrow, my oldest has to go to a kids’ birthday party, and
I’ll go shopping with my youngest.

But then it’s time to pick up my crochet hook.

And every now and then in between doing housework. After all, you have to take breaks
sometimes.

Driven crazy

Hi,

Oh yes. A pinwheel jacket for my youngest.

A new color every round.
But somehow the increases never came out right for me. I followed
the pattern exactly, but either I had too many increases or too few.

Man, that thing really did my head in. I did finish it, though ;-) after several weeks,
which unfortunately meant that my daughter had a growth spurt in the meantime and it
no longer fit her.

Man, was I mad.

Hi,

my husband, our two daughters (ages 8 and 11), and I live in our little home.
We also have a small animal enclosure in our garden with our two mini pigs, Lilo

Kind regards, Heike

Topic: Buying Yarn

Hi Michaela,

here’s how it works for me: I often order online, and to save on shipping (free shipping once you reach a
certain amount), I just order a few more skeins.

Most of the time, I buy yarn for a single project. But I always buy 1–2 extra skeins.

It’s also true that I sometimes make impulse purchases. I’ll see the yarn and
immediately think of a project I’ve always wanted to do, so I
end up taking the yarn home with me.

There are always so many factors at play.

Best regards, Heike
