Hi Heike! Wow, you’ve really crocheted a lot already!
I’ve been crocheting for 6 years and I can’t even keep track of everything I’ve made... It’s nice that you enjoy crocheting so much too :)
I started crocheting during a training course through the employment office about 20 years ago (it might have been a little longer).
Most of the time, I make doll clothes.
First for my daughters, then for my nieces, and now for my granddaughters.
Maybe I’ll have great-grandchildren someday, but that’s still many years away.
I started crocheting back in 1970. That was when my sister had her baby, and I kept at it. At the time, I was crocheting baby sets.
From then on, I’ve kept crocheting regularly. I can’t even say how many pieces I’ve made.
All I can tell you is that there’s almost nothing I haven’t tried yet. I just really enjoy it—I think I’m already addicted to it.
Best, Marion
Hi,
I started crocheting in the summer of 2017. I had to abandon my first project because I completely overestimated my abilities. It was really too hard. Then I first made some simple arm warmers following a YouTube tutorial, and then crocheted a great shrug. Now I’m in the final stages of making more arm warmers for my friend—more challenging than the first ones, but still beginner-friendly. I’ve already picked out my next projects!
So, about 22 years ago, I crocheted something following a pattern from a magazine for the first time. It was a sweater made from several granny squares (back then I didn’t even know that was what they were called). Well, somehow all the granny squares were different sizes, and the result was really awful. It was during my training. And I thought that sweater was absolutely terrible. I felt completely untalented and gave up.
Then, about 3 years ago, I started again, but this time with amigurumi. It was so much fun. It was fantastic.
Here’s a quick look at what I’ve crocheted:
Doll / Dragon / Dino / Reindeer / Elephant / Monkey / Cat / Rabbits / Dogs /
and then I moved on to a variety of storage baskets, bags, coasters, pot holders and more, gradually even to clothing. It brings me so much joy that I just can’t stop.
Hey there, hello everyone...
I crocheted my first doilies when I was 6 years old.... My grandma was a needlework teacher at an elementary school. I spent soooo much time with her.... That was over 40 years ago.... I eventually stopped. In 2008, I started knitting, mainly lace shawls, preferably from English books. I got back into crocheting through amigurumi...
I just can’t get enough of them. Right now, I really enjoy crocheting tapestry bags—this is my fifth one—and I’m working on an Advent wreath and a fairy house (which still needs to be sewn together). In between, I like to crochet little things here and there—bag charms, mushrooms, and the like... But I’ve also crocheted several dragons, finger puppets, mice, gargoyles, and unicorns in my craft room, and then someone always came along and talked me into giving them away ;-)
I was already crocheting in elementary school—just the usual pot holders. After that, I didn’t touch a crochet hook for decades; I just did a lot of knitting. A few years ago, I wanted to knit a teddy bear for my first grandchild, but I could only find a crochet pattern. That’s when I realized the advantages of crocheting—you can see the shape right away, rather than having to wait until you take the work off the needle. And I’ve been crocheting ever since...
In my early school years, we had to crochet the classic pot holders, then came a doily edged in white and green… Neither my mother nor my grandmother were big crocheters, but in my later school years I crocheted a suit for myself and later a dress, along with quite a few doilies. For our first daughter, I made a baby jacket, a little hat, and booties; then I knitted almost exclusively for quite some time. In the meantime, the list of crocheted items has grown very long: doilies, shopping nets, stars, snowflakes, angels, hearts, bag charms in various designs, a shawl, little baskets, bookmarks, little flowers, clothes hanger covers… Right now, both have their place side by side—knitting and crocheting—depending on my mood and the project.
Hey, I’ve definitely been crocheting for 8 or 9 years now.
I’ve focused on stuffed animals, but I’ve also crocheted pillowcases and window decorations.

I started when I was about 3 or 4 years old. How long ago was that... oh, never mind :-)
For me, it always goes back and forth—sometimes I prefer crocheting, other times I prefer knitting. But actually, I’ve already crocheted and knitted just about everything.
Yes, I also remember crocheting pot holders in “Handicrafts” class at school very well. That’s when I started crocheting (around 1974–1976). We also made blankets out of these granny squares (they used to be called something else—crochet squares).
A friend of mine in 8th grade once gave me a handkerchief case made from these granny squares (it still exists). I then crocheted a shoulder bag together with another school friend—that was in 1978 (we both made the same one).
So, I’d say I practically grew up with yarn. My mom used to work at a worsted spinning mill called Alwo (Altenburger Wollspinnerei), and she’d always bring home these bags of yarn (for a low price)
Later on, I also spent some time knitting those Pumuckl-themed sweaters for my kids—even little cable patterns and scarves. Since I often drop stitches when knitting, I gave it up.
Then, when these amigurumi figures became popular (I had to Google what they were first), I started with a little mini Hello Kitty. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked on these crocheted figures. Mostly, I crochet dolls. Animals, not so much.
I’ve crocheted small doilies, round tablecloths, triangular shawls, dolls, loveys, and a few animals (dog, cat, elephant, mouse, frog, donkey)
Thanks to CP, there are more and more of them, and you get better and better too. My first figures didn’t look as neat as the new ones do now.
