Hello, dear users and authors— do you actually have a favorite stitch?
Personally, I prefer crocheting half double crochets because, for me, they’re almost as quick to crochet as single crochets but aren’t quite as tight in structure. I also think the combination of single crochets and half double crochets makes for a very beautiful pattern.
Hi Doreen,
I prefer working with half double crochets and single crochets—they’re especially well-suited for amigurumi and dolls. But I also love cluster stitches and patterns ;)
I like crocheting front post double crochet stitches. I really don’t like back post double crochet stitches, though.
When it comes to knitting, I don’t have a specific favorite stitch.
It depends on what you want to crochet. As I’ve mentioned here before, for amigurumi I always use single crochet (mainly because of the stuffing—so it doesn’t show through).
But for larger projects where I want to work quickly, I prefer to crochet regular double crochet stitches.
I also like the shell stitch—it just can’t be too “holey.” Except for delicate crochet shawls, where I like to use single crochet, chain stitches, and double crochet; for little doll hats, I like those front and back post stitches.
Visually, I like cluster stitches :)
I like to use them to make simple hats out of scraps!
When it comes to crocheting, I love varied patterns so I never have to crochet the same type of stitch over and over again.
I really like post double crochet. Whether worked from the front or the back—I prefer alternating them. I especially like the three-dimensional look they create.
When knitting, I like the purl stitch best. With the knit stitch, I apparently don’t pay enough attention, and then I often end up with loops in the stitch pattern that don’t look so nice. And by now I knit both stitches just as quickly.
When crocheting, double crochet stitches are my favorite. Whether regular double crochets, treble crochets, or triple treble crochets. I like the flowing movement. It calms me down.
When it comes to knitting, I don’t really have a favorite stitch, but I do have favorite patterns: I especially like lace patterns; for socks, simple knit-and-purl patterns or the “coffee beans.” In general, I love variety—garter stitch is actually a bit too boring for me, and brioche stitches aren’t exactly my favorite.
I don’t particularly like crocheting half double crochets, and with taller crochet stitches, I have trouble keeping the last loop from getting too big (is there maybe a simple trick for that?). I only recently discovered post stitches and find them quite fun to work with.

I don’t have a favorite stitch, but I’m still struggling with my knit stitches, which are too tight, and my purl stitches, which are usually so loose that I have to pull them tight one by one. But I love stockinette stitch for kids’ raglan sweaters because pattern knitting and decreasing just don’t seem to work out the way I want them to.
I’ve been racking my brain since yesterday trying to figure out if I have a favorite stitch, but I can’t think of one. As for a stitch I don’t like, I’d probably say knitted bobbles.
I prefer to use single crochet for amigurumi—it’s a bit firmer and you can’t see the stuffing. Double crochet or half double crochet for scarves… hehe, it’s faster. Post double crochet stitches are also very pretty :-D I’m crocheting a basket right now and I never get tired of it!!
When crocheting, I like half double crochet and double crochet, as well as post double crochet. I enjoy experimenting with them.
When knitting, I like to experiment with knit and purl stitches. I don’t really like knitting garter stitch, but by chance I’ve now discovered a beautiful pattern that results from using knit stitches and different colors.
