Dear users, dear authors, Back to school is always quite an adjustment for everyone involved.
Has the situation settled down by now? Is everyone okay?
Let me know.
Not quite yet, but things are getting calmer.
Changing schools turned out to involve more adjustments than we’d expected. And my son chose a school that demands a lot from its students.
But anything else would have bored him way too quickly, and he’s actually enjoying all the hustle and bustle around him.
My little girl was diagnosed with dyslexia back in the spring. It’s a small adjustment when it comes to learning—for me, that is, not for her—but we’ve managed that too. She’s keeping up well in class and is always a hard-working student.
My oldest has moved from elementary school to secondary school.
My goodness, it really is a big adjustment. Lots of teachers,
lots of subjects, and lots of homework.
But my daughter needs it. ;-)
My youngest is now in third grade and is getting grades for the first time.
We didn’t have any grades during her first two years of school.
THAT’S a big change. Because now there are grades for EVERYTHING.
But other than that, things are going well for us.
My oldest has now also moved on to secondary school.
He didn’t choose the closest secondary school, but the better one. But since he’s pretty much the only one in the area attending that school, we’ve already had some pretty scary experiences with the bus in the first four weeks.
For the first two weeks, he arrived late to class every day, even though according to the timetable the bus was supposed to arrive 10 minutes before lessons started. According to the bus company, that was because there were so many students on the road. ^^
In the third week, the bus journey actually got off to a good start. Unfortunately, he was late again on Wednesday. This time, a garbage truck was blocking the bus’s way!
In the fourth week, the country road was closed, and the bus arrived late at school again.
After that, our son decided on his own to take an earlier bus. But since he was the only passenger going all the way to the last stop, the driver simply dropped him off at the bus station and kindly explained that he should take the other bus in 10 minutes.
To be honest, I’m getting pretty fed up by now. Especially since I think it’s absolutely unnecessary for an 11-year-old to be hanging around the station alone at 6:30 in the morning when according to the timetable the bus goes all the way through.
I hope the company has actually dealt with the complaint for a change.
The driver had to call me personally and apologize. They’re even wasting my time. ^^
At least things are going well at school. Who knows. Maybe for us right now, the journey is the destination. ^^
Our little girl is now in her 6th year at secondary school. She’s doing very well in all her classes and really enjoys school. Except for the second foreign language, which was added this school year! She could choose between Latin and French and decided on French. Now she’s realized that, for the first time in her school career, she has to REALLY study, and that often leads to some grumbling at home.
But since she’s still getting good grades, it’s not such a big deal.
