The way you describe it, this creates a loop—or a “curve”—at the beginning. I strongly suspect that several more stitches will be worked into this loop. That’s why the loop is needed—simply to provide enough space for the other stitches.
The triangular shape will form as you continue crocheting. Just give it a try and crochet a few rows as described in the pattern. Even without knowing the pattern, I’m still very sure that it will turn out to be a triangle.

I think they look especially nice in bright colors, but of course that also depends on the person receiving the gift. They are easy to knit - the only small difficulty might be the eyelet round through which the ribbon is threaded, but otherwise only knit and purl stitches are used.

That’s always how it is for me when I knit socks—50 grams is too little, 100 grams is too much. There’s always some left over. If you want to use up leftover sock yarn, I have an idea for you.

Actually, I don’t want to lose weight. I’ve finally reached a body type where people aren’t constantly telling me to eat more—after being too thin in my younger years despite eating plenty. At least I don’t get worried looks anymore.

It depends. I really don’t like things like painting or laying tiles at all. I can do them, but I don’t enjoy it. I’m all for outsourcing that kind of work. When it comes to smaller jobs, though, I’m game. I’m really good at hammering in nails :-)

I noticed last winter that scarves are getting bigger and wider, and this year they seem to be getting even bigger. It often looks very cozy when these giant scarves are draped around the neck. What caught my eye is the material, which looks rather light and soft. If you wanted to knit something like this, you’d probably have to use thinner yarn. Actually, I knitted one like that once, and it basically consisted of two loops that crossed over each other on the front. And then there were sleeves attached.
That was the one. It’s just in English. 

That’s tricky :-) I know them by the English term “crossover,” and I’m racking my brain right now trying to figure out what they’re called in German. I found a few “crossed sweaters” on Google that look like this, but I’m not sure if that’s the official term for them.

It’s not a holiday here, but because we’re close to the border, we always feel it too, since lots of Germans come over here to shop. On that day, it’s always best if you don’t have to go into town — it’s the worst traffic jam of the year :-)
