I love doubleface knitting because it lets you create such beautiful motifs and gives you two “front sides.” Thank you, Josefa, for dedicating a forum post to this wonderful knitting technique!

Items knitted in doubleface not only look beautiful, they’re also extra dense thanks to the double knitting method. That makes them especially suitable for things like winter accessories, potholders, or other items that need to be sturdy.

For everyone who isn’t familiar with doubleface knitting yet but would like to try it, there is a free pattern for the basics in my shop:

Pattern: Basics of Doubleface Knitting - Skull Skully Coaster

If you’d like to learn doubleface knitting but don’t want to knit a skull, you’ll find the comparable pattern with a heart motif here in this blog post.

Here is a selection of a wide variety of doubleface models:

I figured that double-faced knitting is currently trending and very popular, so it would be great if more people had the chance to recreate these patterns.

Have fun with it.

Loop - something lovely for winter or spring. A beautiful crochet project to receive compliments!  The pattern looks the same on the front and back, it resembles flowers or stars.

A particularly interesting combination is Doubleface and lace in one.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how you can combine both techniques.

For the sample shawl shown, I used polyamide yarn with size 4.5 knitting needles.

The three-page PDF file with written pattern and knitting chart is suitable for advanced knitters.

Just in time for the current temperatures, my shop now has a brand-new stylish dotted reversible beanie with two cheerful dogs on the brim. If the dogs are too playful for you, you can knit the brim in a solid color instead—making it a wonderful model for adults as well. The size can be adjusted individually.

You can also create pretty accessories using the Doubleface knitting technique. Take these “From the Heart” gift bags, for example—perfect for lovingly wrapping a small gift. Just the thing for the upcoming Valentine’s Day, but of course, the bag is also great for Mother’s Day, birthdays, or as a little token of appreciation anytime.

For Doubleface knitting pros, the pattern includes not only the classic knitting chart but also a chart with lettering that can be read on both sides. Give it a try!

The extreme cold snap may be over, but it’s still very much hat weather. How about a pattern that looks very simple at first glance—perfect for anyone who doesn’t need any fancy frills? But upon closer inspection, the hat turns out to be quite sophisticated: beige turns into blue in the blink of an eye—and vice versa.

You can knit this hat in any size, from children’s to adult.

These wrist warmers also have a few surprises in store—you can wear them in many different ways, allowing you to vary your look time and again, depending on your mood and preference.

This cute cloth featuring little Tobi the bear is now available in my shop—it makes a wonderfully soft cuddle cloth right from birth and later is great as a washcloth. Knitted from pure cotton, it can of course also be knitted as a pot holder.

There are several new doubleface models in my shop again, which I’d love to introduce to you here:

Knitting pattern for an “E-Reader” protective cover - with this protective cover knitted in doubleface, your e-reader will be beautifully wrapped up. The cover can also be knitted a little larger, so a small tablet will fit inside. And you can even turn it inside out, too.

Knitting pattern for “Kiwi Love” potholders - a real long-distance trip, even all the way to New Zealand, is still hard to imagine at the moment. To ease your wanderlust, you can now knit yourself, at least in your mind, to the other end of the world with these potholders ;-)

Knitting pattern for a “Paris” placemat - Or would you rather go to Paris? With this extraordinary placemat, you’ll always have the City of Love with you at home...

Knitting pattern for the “Love Birds” cloth - a small cloth is quick to knit in between projects and can be used in many ways. This motif can be used as a washcloth, or also as a dishcloth or a potholder.

Knitting pattern for the “Live Love Laugh” cloth - this motif is fun to knit even in summer. It can also be made as a face cloth, a dishcloth, or a potholder. Knitted with thicker yarn, you could of course also make a cushion cover from it.

These fun “Mr. & Mrs. Right” potholders are the perfect wedding gift :-) But they also make a lovely gift for couples moving into their first home together—or simply as a small gift.

I always think doubleface items are fun to knit. It takes a bit of perseverance until you get the hang of it, but then it becomes addictive :-)

I have two new doubleface patterns that go wonderfully together—two cute cuddly bunnies, one as a cowl and one as a matching washcloth. They make a great set to give as a gift, but of course the accessories are also lovely on their own.

This angel motif is perfect for the present time! With this pattern, you can knit a guardian angel or angel of peace for someone. Depending on the yarn, the finished cloth can be used as a potholder, dishcloth, or washcloth.

I have a few new doubleface models again that I’d like to introduce to you here. All the models shown include a very detailed pattern for the doubleface basics.

If you feel like making a new dishcloth or washcloth, you might like this cloth with the two cats. The way they look so lovingly at the night sky creates a romantic mood right away, doesn’t it?

Knitting pattern cloth / washcloth “Cat Love” - in doubleface

There’s also a new motif in the placemat series. This time, the couple in love gets to travel to London. You can’t see the two of them, because of course they’re sitting in the double-decker bus so typical of London and enjoying the sightseeing tour :-)

Knitting pattern placemat “London” - in doubleface

Do you have a dragon fan at home? Then here’s the perfect cowl! Little fire dragon Inaki can already breathe amazing flames... Thanks to the doubleface knitting technique, the cowl is extra dense and keeps you nice and warm. And of course it can be worn on both sides, because it looks great on both the front and the back.

Sonja wishes you lots of joy with doubleface knitting
