Happy birthday from me, too!

Well, I’ll admit it—the whole story is pretty nitpicky :-) I didn’t think about carved knitting needles :-) But it all had to happen so fast!

Imagine you’re shipwrecked and stranded on a deserted island, far away from any civilization. There’s plenty to eat, so survival isn’t a problem. No dangerous animals, no sharks in the water, and overall, it’s quite nice there. A little lonely, sure, but you can’t have everything.
For some strange reason, this island hasn’t been discovered yet—it doesn’t appear on any map. And there’s something very special there: there are trees that grow wool. It’s a veritable land of milk and honey for all wool lovers—and you’ve ended up there.
When the shipwreck happened, you didn’t have much time to save your belongings. Right before your eyes, your travel bag—which, unfortunately, was slightly open as the ship sank—fell into the water. On top were a crochet hook and a knitting needle (or two). You can save one of them before the bag disappears forever.
So, to make a long story short: Which one will you take? The knitting needle or the crochet hook? Please don’t forget—you don’t have much time to think; you have to decide quickly, or both will be gone.
If it were me, I’d take the knitting needles.

I’d definitely be tempted to try it—it looks really interesting. But I’ve never seen it in a store.

My needle isn’t calling me much right now. Thankfully, the flu is subsiding, but now my father is in the hospital, and that’s really worrying me. Well, at least he’s in good hands for now.
Today I’ll squeeze in a few rows of knitting.

For me, I usually have the yarn first and only then do I come up with an idea for what to make with it. I generally like all colors, so I don’t put any pressure on myself. Instead, I go by how the yarn feels and decide what to make based on that.

I have to say, I’ve always been very skeptical about mohair, but lately I’ve used blends with a small amount of mohair a few times and was totally thrilled.

A warm stole comes in handy in autumn, and of course you can also use the brightest autumn colors for it.

We’re also a blended family with a total of 3 kids. They’re all grown up and have left home. My husband is still here. We live in a large apartment on the outskirts of town. Actually, the area is quite rural—there are a few farms all around, lots of meadows and forests, and right behind the house, the path leads up the mountain. On the way there, I always run into an adventurous hen who greets me with a loud cluck. I greet her back :-)
We’ve been here for a long time, and I’m very glad we’re spared the noise of the city.

Sure thing. Unfortunately, I’m not feeling my best today—I’m a bit flu-ish, under the weather, and foggy-headed—but I’m sure that will pass again soon.

I have a new wrap.



This wrap is knitted with sock-weight yarn. You can also use other yarns, which will make it sturdier. I think it drapes especially beautifully in finer yarns.
The pattern is simple and suitable for beginners. You’ll just need a little patience.

For me, it varies from case to case. Sometimes I just start knitting and see what comes of it, and often, once I’ve started, it can’t really be done any other way because everything develops very logically.
Sometimes I also take notes, but those are just very basic things like the number of stitches or exactly how the decreases are done. I usually do this when it’s a two-piece project, like socks, for example.
Patterns are always written afterward. I also create knitting charts afterward. While I’m knitting, everything happens in my head.

Long scarves with ends dangling down to your knees are everywhere again. The important thing is that it doesn’t all become too bulky and that you’re not pulled to the ground by the weight of the scarf - standing up straight contributes a lot to a fashionable appearance :-)

I think infinity scarves—which you wrap twice around your neck—are super chic on cold days. They keep you warm and look cool. Something else I’ve been noticing a lot lately are large-scale, often geometric patterns that really make contrasting colors stand out.

I’ve got something for you along those lines.



This loop scarf is knitted from sock yarn, and what makes it special is that it’s a long knitted tube—meaning there’s no front or back. You can play with colors as much as you want, or simply knit it in a single color, and a big advantage of this pattern is that you can stop at any time once you run out of yarn. In theory, this also helps you avoid that dreaded leftover yarn.

The Rapunzel hat is available in 3 different sizes, including newborn size. It is knitted from yarn in two different colors and is suitable for more experienced knitters, as not only do both colors have to be carried in every round, but cables are also incorporated.

Oh yes, this is the perfect thread for me. That “Yarn Empress” thing seems a bit dubious to me, though :-)
So, in my opinion, the most important thing when building up a yarn stash is that you never want to find yourself sitting at home, an idea taking shape, but unfortunately not having the right yarn on hand. You simply have to be prepared for situations like that.
My yarn stash is slowly getting a bit disorganized, but there’s still room.
It’s also a terrible thought for me when, for example, I see beautiful yarn somewhere but can’t buy it because I’m on a yarn diet. As a substitute, I’d probably stuff myself with chocolate. I’d much rather stuff my yarn stash with yarn. So you see, yarn is healthy!

You won’t believe it, but I didn’t buy a single ball of yarn last week. I’m currently finishing up a crocheted shawl. But I think it’ll take a little while longer because the yarn is so thin and the crochet hook is so small.
The weather is beautiful and sunny, so I’m going to take a walk through the woods later today. Golden autumn is here.
