Imagine you’re shipwrecked and stranded on a deserted island, far away from any civilization. There’s plenty to eat, so survival isn’t a problem. No dangerous animals, no sharks in the water, and overall, it’s quite nice there. A little lonely, sure, but you can’t have everything.
For some strange reason, this island hasn’t been discovered yet—it doesn’t appear on any map. And there’s something very special there: there are trees that grow wool. It’s a veritable land of milk and honey for all wool lovers—and you’ve ended up there.
When the shipwreck happened, you didn’t have much time to save your belongings. Right before your eyes, your travel bag—which, unfortunately, was slightly open as the ship sank—fell into the water. On top were a crochet hook and a knitting needle (or two). You can save one of them before the bag disappears forever.
So, to make a long story short: Which one will you take? The knitting needle or the crochet hook? Please don’t forget—you don’t have much time to think; you have to decide quickly, or both will be gone.
If it were me, I’d take the knitting needles.
You can carve your own knitting needles, make needles out of cacti, and for skewering fish, I’d rather use a long, pointed stick.
And since no one’s around, I can eat everything with my hands.....
Besides, I was already there in my mind when they said: a deserted island, far away from civilization.....
Who would ever want to leave a place like that???
I just counted—it’s 9 to 2 in favor of the crochet hooks :-) Klaus, I think we’re outnumbered. But we do have something that’s very rare on this island :-)
I’ve already tried this: You can knit with chopsticks :-)))) (Hmmm… maybe we should knit pasta. There are endless noodles in Asian cuisine. They’d have to be al dente, though, so they don’t break. I’m just imagining the faces of the people sitting around us when we knit our noodle soup into rags and then happily gobble them up...)
Speaking of which, you have to check out this video:
I’m bumping this back up because the lovely monifisch sent me a message saying she’s taking the crochet hook. With several exclamation points :-)
11 : 4. Good thing this isn’t a soccer game :-)
So now I just have to nudge the knitting needles up a bit! Definitely knitting needles!!!! By the way, I once carved some myself... the result was, well, so-so.... And Steffi, now I’d just love to see how you weave in the loose ends on the noodles!
