Happy weekend: How are you all doing? Do you have enough time for crafts?

Thanks, Josefa—I wish you all a wonderful weekend, too.
Unfortunately, the new year started off by forcing me into bed with a bad cold and a fever. I’ve been sleeping most of the time, so crafts are out of the question for now.

What’s your first craft project of the year?

You’ve all made so many different projects again.

I adapted a pattern from here into a bunny.

February Projects and January Projects 2025: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Once again, a happy and healthy New Year 2025 to everyone.
You’re already hard at work again. Claudia, your little mushroom man looks so cute. Not everything in nature is straight, either.
Dyeing fabric sounds interesting. By hand or in the washing machine?

Do You Have New Year’s Resolutions for 2025?

Yes, I need to lose a little weight since I took a little break and I’m missing the exercise, even though I go dancing now and then.

But above all, that we all stay healthy

Lots of love, Andrea

Happy weekend to all of you: Are you able to relax?

Veronika, I hope your husband gets well soon, and I wish everyone a peaceful 4th Sunday of Advent.

I went to a tea dance with my parents again today. It was a nice way to take my mind off things. Christmas is already the day after tomorrow—my parents are coming over for coffee, and in the evening we’ll have the Christmas roast with dumplings and red cabbage. On December 26, my youngest is coming—I’m really looking forward to that.
So there are still some joyful moments.

Happy weekend to all of you: Are you able to relax?

Not really. After what happened in Magdeburg. It’s terrible. :-(
Where is all this headed?

How are your Christmas preparations going?

I know the feeling—cleaning up and rearranging things, and then you end up looking for them. Though I’m constantly looking for something, since my craft supplies are scattered all over the apartment. I’d love to have everything in one place, but oh well, that’s just how it is.

Anyway, we don’t exchange gifts. I just need to prepare for Christmas dinner, and maybe bake some more cookies.
Yesterday I baked another batch of cookies, and today I’m making my honey cake (Norwegian: Krydderkake);
I already have a store-bought stollen. That’s enough. A small, colorful plate for the two of us.

My kids can’t come until after Christmas (because of work), so it’s going to be a quiet affair.

Pinking shears for fabric—do they have to be that heavy?

I’m looking for a high-quality pair of pinking shears—can anyone recommend one? I only have a pair meant for “hobby” use, and they don’t cut fabric properly, plus they’re really stiff to use (they were cheap). Just cheap cast stuff.

Thanks

It’s coming to an end... :-))

Oh Inge, I’m so happy for both of you. That’s certainly true—there’s no better Christmas present.
Now you’ll both have a clear view again *grin*, but good health is so important these days.

So I wish everyone a happy Third Sunday of Advent (is that right?), wow, time sure does fly.

Best regards
Andrea

Pom-poms on hats: yes or no?

I’m not really a hat fan either—I prefer hoods—but in Norway, those Norwegian hats have a braided ribbon on both sides with a pom-pom at the end, and I like that. I used to have one like that.

Life motto ;-) :-))

I hadn’t heard that saying before. Well, people used to think differently back then. Today I see it the same way you do, Inge.
It’s okay to let things get a little dusty sometimes. Our time on earth is so precious—why waste it cleaning?

The motto: as much as necessary, and as little as possible.

Hardworking little helpers: What are you working on?

Thanks, Petra. Your projects look really pretty, too. How did you come up with the idea for a Christmas cucumber?
Above all, your cookies look delicious—better than mine :-)

Yeah, the crochet projects go by in a flash. The round one is Tunisian crochet—I tried it out, and it’s so much fun, plus it’s easy and quick to crochet. Found it on You...e via Örgü Diyan...
It definitely won’t be the last one.

Wishing you all a peaceful Second Sunday of Advent

Wishing you all a wonderful Advent and a lovely start to winter

Thank you, Josefa, and to everyone else here as well—I wish you all a peaceful Advent season, and I hope that everyone gets along, sticks together, and treats one another more peacefully.

Today we were at the Potsdam Christmas market with our parents, enjoying glorious sunshine and crisp, cold air. It was wonderful.

Wow, Steffi, that looks like a bag pattern (templates), doesn’t it? I’m curious to see what it will be and how it will turn out. You can do it.

I’ve finished my crocheted hearts, and I’m crocheting little bags from yarn scraps. Pictures are coming soon.

Table runners / table ribbons: still popular?

Table runners are a thing of the past. I don’t own any anymore either, only tablecloths (I think 2–3 are still from the GDR era) that still have the right dimensions. Modern tablecloths today are mostly almost square (odd dimensions).
I’ve also repurposed well-preserved, discarded regular colored bed sheets and used them as tablecloths.
Otherwise, I have a pretty patterned white oilcloth tablecloth on the table and placemats.
Tablecloths are only used for special occasions.

My mom sometimes uses table runners, or those long crocheted doilies, and depending on the occasion, she threads colored satin ribbons through them. It looks really chic (unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of it).

Quick poll: Do you prefer knitted or crocheted socks?

I love knitted socks—as I’ve said before, they feel softer and thinner.

Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about knitting socks.

Who brings the presents at your house?

When I was a kid, everything was different—Santa Claus brought the presents back then. We still believed in him back then.
Today, though, we don’t give each other gifts anymore.
Instead, we take a trip together or go out for a nice meal.
The kids have moved out; they have their own specific wishes, so I give them money so they can buy something for themselves, or I give them gas money when they find the time to come visit.

Everything’s gotten more expensive, unfortunately, but we don’t get any more money either :-(

I think Claudia ’s blanket is Tunisian crochet or Entrelac. Not sure if they’re the same thing. With that technique, you crochet the individual squares all at once, so they’re in one piece.
The border is interesting. Are those muffins?

Thanks, Petra —yes, there are post double crochets in there: vRStb and hRStb. Maybe I’ll crochet two stars at a time, sew them together, and hang them in the window. They’re just the right size as coasters, but a bit too big as ornaments—though I could use thin yarn for that. I’ll give that a try. I think they’d look cute. Once starched, they could be used as gift tags or tree ornaments.

Oh man, you guys were creative again. All I can say is WOW.

I just tried something out to pass the time.
Based on a video tutorial:

Christmas stars. The brown one looks like a cinnamon star with icing.
I’m sure there will be more. They’re quick to crochet.

All Saints' Day 2024

For us, yesterday was a holiday, but today, November 1, is a normal workday. Many people have the day off to make a long weekend.
It’s been pretty quiet. We went out to eat today (pork knuckle with sauerkraut or schnitzel with mushrooms and croquettes/fries)
Otherwise, we’ve been doing crafts, crocheting, and relaxing.

Happy Halloween / Happy Reformation Day

Get well soon, Inge—from me, too. As long as you can manage some crafts, that’ll help take your mind off things a bit.

It was quiet here yesterday, too—the doorbell only rang once. Most people have a “long weekend” today.

The worst part was that my dad needed to see the doctor, but the office is closed today. Closed. A doctor who takes the day off. In the healthcare field, there’s no such thing as a long weekend :-(

How difficult is it to try a new crochet technique?

Well, look at that. Learned something new again. I’ll have to try it out—otherwise, I always crochet “normally” too.
You’ll definitely have to concentrate at first, but the more you crochet this way, the more I think it’ll become second nature.
Thanks for the tip.

Pockets in clothing: do you have any preferences?

I sometimes like patch pockets on cardigans and jeans, and often those hidden pockets on the inside, where you can only see the slit from the outside (e.g., on coats, dresses, and dress pants...)
I always need pockets on my clothes.

What I really don’t like are those patch cargo pockets—or whatever they’re called. I used to like them.
