My haul & a few impressions...

Thank you so much, dear Inge, for your tour and for sharing these photos. It’s enough to make anyone a little jealous with so much yarn. Great selection.
I’m sure I would have found something I liked there, too.
I’m looking forward to seeing your projects.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing nearby yet, and on top of that, the trains aren’t running as usual—construction… service disruptions… Delays…
It’s a disaster.
But I still have a little stash left.

Forum game: a crafting story in the forum for the forum

I love crafts because I enjoy them. It’s such a great way to relax. First, I make myself really comfortable. I find a nice, quiet, and above all cozy spot right in my garden. There are enough trees to provide shade, and my garden chair is so comfortable. My coffee will be ready any minute now; I usually set it on the little table next to the garden chair. There’s a loud crash as my garden gate rattles. There stands my neighbor’s dog—he opened the garden gate all by himself. He rushes toward me, and I can clearly tell that he’s set his sights on the basket full of yarn sitting right next to me. I jump up instantly to move the basket to safety, but my neighbor’s dog, Lumpi, is faster. He happily and energetically sticks his wet snout into the balls of yarn, and… suddenly the doorbell rings—it’s the mail carrier. He’s holding a huge cardboard box and waiting impatiently for me to open the door. But first I have to get my yarn basket out of Lumpi’s reach, then I rush to the front door, hastily brush the yarn fuzz off my clothes, and take the package from the slightly annoyed mail carrier.
Curious… as I am, I have to open the package right away, but first I give the patient mail carrier a tip. Then I can finally unwrap the package, and I’m really delighted by what’s inside—it’s full of yarn. There’s also a new crochet hook and, of course, a beautiful little piece of cotton fabric. What a joy. I look around for my key. Ah, there it is—I grab the key and the new yarn package. I walk to the door and see out of the corner of my eye a barking ball of yarn running toward me on four legs, dragging a tangled mess of yarn behind it. Before I know it… chaos has ensued—all the balls of yarn are completely tangled up. What now…? Panic sets in…

That was another great event. Hearty congratulations to the winners.
Actually, we’ve all won, given how colorful things were here in the forum.

Have a great weekend, everyone: what are your plans?

I’m still recovering from my bad cold. I’m feeling better now—it’s starting to subside—but now my husband has caught it too. We’re taking care of each other now.
I’m slowly starting to feel like crocheting again. My colorful granny square, made using the mosaic technique, is growing row by row.
I’m doing 1–2 rounds every day, since they’re getting bigger and longer. I take breaks in between.

Have a wonderful evening, everyone, and a great start to the new week tomorrow

Warm regards,
Andrea :-)

There was a huge bang...

Oh yeah, things are pretty explosive over there. :-) Just picturing it now—I would’ve fallen out of my chair in shock, too.
But it all turned out okay in the end.

Happy Holiday, January 6, 2026: Do you all have the day off tomorrow?

Here in Berlin/Brandenburg, it’s not a public holiday.

But I have the day off and am enjoying these days. Just crafting and doing needlework as the mood takes me.
That’s nice, too.

Bastelfan’s Birthday / 2025 / Free Patterns as a Gift

Hello, everyone! I’m sending you all a big hug from afar

Thank you so much for your kind birthday wishes and floral greetings—they really made me very happy.
Yes, I had a wonderful day with my parents. We had a lovely meal at “Kartoffelkäfer”—German cuisine—and I let myself be served for a change. Afterward, we took a little digestive walk, and then of course had coffee with delicious fruit flan, muffins, and whipped cream. In the evening, we had a little drink. Everything was perfect.
And… I even got my requested day off from work.

Warmest regards
Andrea :-)

Is your yarn stash still within reasonable limits?

My yarn stash is still manageable, even though a few skeins found their way into my bag while I was on vacation.
Most of it is cotton yarn, and I still have some thin crochet yarn too (for smaller amigurumis).
The yarn is spread out across 2 drawers, 3 fabric boxes, and a large, flat plastic under-bed storage box. There are also quite a few UFOs in there—unfortunately—waiting to be finished. Otherwise, everything’s still under control.

Wow, Inge.

I used to have a yucca palm or one of those weeping figs. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much luck with it—the tips of the leaves would often turn brown.

How many amigurumi / animals do you have?

Good morning,

you have some really beautiful amigurumi there. The pirate owl is awesome. All those little LEGO details—great!

The book owl is on my list, too—unfortunately, I haven’t crocheted it yet, since there are always new, even cuter patterns popping up here, so I’m spoiled for choice.

I really like it. I still crochet with a 1.75 mm hook every now and then. It works for now, but after that I’ll have to switch to a 2.5 mm hook.

Mosaic Overlay Technique

Hey Josefa, and everyone else—

I absolutely love crocheting mosaic patterns. Especially granny squares or small bags where you crochet in the round. You only use single crochets and deep double crochets. Best of all, each round is crocheted in a single color, which saves you the hassle of carrying the yarn (tapestry technique), and it creates wonderful patterns.

You can also come up with your own patterns (square patterns on graph paper using highlighters).

A Splendid Display of Flowers

Gorgeous photos.

It looks so idyllic and inviting at Ina’s—you just want to linger there right away, with a cappuccino and fruit tart, whipped cream and an ice cream sundae, lie down in the grass and gaze at the sky, or sit under a tree and pursue your hobby.

We’re all stopping by for the CP garden party at Ina’s. It’s so beautifully maintained (a lot of hard work and love has gone into it). You’d already mentioned it (fish pond & co.)

Have a wonderful Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, everyone—maybe some egg rolling with the grandkids.

Warm Easter greetings
Andrea

I baked

Thank you all so much. The cake is almost all gone. I also took some cake over to my parents. It was delicious. If anyone wants it, I’ll post the recipe here.

I once bought this pretty baking pan at an auction (at the garden restaurant where we used to go dancing—they held a small auction there). Everyone brought one or two items they no longer needed and bid on something else in exchange for a small surcharge.
This baking set (it’s a 3-piece set) also includes a smaller round springform pan and a heart-shaped springform pan.

And today we’re going out for coffee (me and my two coworkers)—the sun is shining, we have the day off—what more could you want?

Warmest regards from me

Happy weekend / Full moon today

Likewise, Josefa, and I also wish everyone else a relaxing, sunny weekend, with plenty of crafts or whatever else you have planned.

I’m going to enjoy my time off, do some crafts, and make Easter cards, and I also have some Diamond Painting pictures I started that I still need to finish ... At some point, I also want to cast and paint stones. So it’s
never boring around here—I just need more time :-)

Best regards, Andrea

Have a lovely weekend, everyone: short February / no leap year

Oh, how cute. They always look so fluffy.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday. I’m enjoying my day off, doing some crafts and experimenting (I always switch between bullet journaling, crocheting, diamond painting, or making cards) depending on what I feel like doing.

My old die-cutting machine gave out—I cranked it a little too hard, and snap, it broke.
I have a new Big Shot now, and I’m testing it out, die-cutting like crazy.

Does anyone else have a Double Do? I still have some plates left over, if anyone’s interested.

Warm regards from me :-))

Have a great weekend, everyone: February will be over soon

Thank you, Josefa, and I wish everyone else here a relaxing weekend as well. Temperatures are above freezing, and the sun is supposed to come out. It only made a brief appearance this afternoon.
I have the day off and am enjoying this time doing crafts, DIY projects, bullet journaling, etc.
I don’t have anything new on my crochet hook either, but I’m always trying out new patterns in mosaic crochet. You can find tons of patterns for that online.

Stay healthy, everyone, and to those who are sick, get well soon

warm regards from me

Amigurumi Without Sewing—How Does That Work?

No one likes a lot of sewing when it comes to amigurumi. I prefer patterns where the arms and legs are crocheted right into the body—that saves you the hassle of sewing them on later.

But you have to crochet the limbs first in order to incorporate them later. In some patterns, even the heads are crocheted right in from the start. So you crochet everything in one piece, from the bottom up. That works.

Small parts, like the snout and ears, sometimes have to be sewn on. I hope that was explained clearly enough.

Busy little elves: do you currently have a difficult pattern?

I don’t have any tricky patterns right now either.

I just finished crocheting this granny square. I only had a picture to go by.
It’s so much fun. Sometimes I have to force myself to take a break. But see for yourselves.

Crafting without patterns / freehand?

I prefer to crochet using a pattern. But for little things like kids’ bags or straight pieces, I just start crocheting. There are plenty of patterns to choose from online.

For figures and dolls, I work better with a pattern.

For mosaic granny squares, I also like to crochet from pictures sometimes—I don’t need a pattern for those. I already know how to do it. You can find plenty of inspiration there.

Thank you so much for your get-well wishes. I hope I’ll be back on my feet soon.

How are your Christmas preparations going?

I know the feeling—cleaning up and rearranging things, and then you end up looking for them. Though I’m constantly looking for something, since my craft supplies are scattered all over the apartment. I’d love to have everything in one place, but oh well, that’s just how it is.

Anyway, we don’t exchange gifts. I just need to prepare for Christmas dinner, and maybe bake some more cookies.
Yesterday I baked another batch of cookies, and today I’m making my honey cake (Norwegian: Krydderkake);
I already have a store-bought stollen. That’s enough. A small, colorful plate for the two of us.

My kids can’t come until after Christmas (because of work), so it’s going to be a quiet affair.

Oh Inge, I’m so happy for both of you. That’s certainly true—there’s no better Christmas present.
Now you’ll both have a clear view again *grin*, but good health is so important these days.

So I wish everyone a happy Third Sunday of Advent (is that right?), wow, time sure does fly.

Best regards
Andrea

Pom-poms on hats: yes or no?

I’m not really a hat fan either—I prefer hoods—but in Norway, those Norwegian hats have a braided ribbon on both sides with a pom-pom at the end, and I like that. I used to have one like that.

How difficult is it to try a new crochet technique?

Well, look at that. Learned something new again. I’ll have to try it out—otherwise, I always crochet “normally” too.
You’ll definitely have to concentrate at first, but the more you crochet this way, the more I think it’ll become second nature.
Thanks for the tip.
