Dear Community,
Are you going to make your own Christmas decorations and gifts this year, as well as Advent calendars, Advent wreaths, and Advent decorations? When do you usually start? Are the current temperatures keeping you from doing so?
Hi, I do needlework in all temperatures—unless the yarn sticks to my finger 😏
Some decorations, yes, and maybe gifts too, but I’m still focused on the birthdays in October and November—one thing at a time. And no, it’s not too warm here yet for crafting.
I don’t start thinking about Christmas until the end of October at the earliest. Before that, there are a few birthdays to celebrate—a 90th and a 70th. We’ve mostly done away with gifts; if we give anything, it’s just a little something.
Kind regards, Inge
I’ve been thinking for years about crocheting these mini handbags and backpacks as a permanent Advent calendar for my five grandchildren. But they’ll have to be filled, right?! Plus, I’ll have to check with my daughter-in-law first to see if it’s even okay. It’s just more stuff to store, after all...
Christmas is still soooo far away. For now, it’s still time for summer stuff or a little fall decor (pumpkins). Otherwise, I’m continuing to crochet my crochet jacket using the C2C technique, or doing some paper crafts (cards).
Christmas isn’t on my mind yet either. That would spoil my current enjoyment of summer and the coming fall. Everything in its own time.
What I do, though, is put a homemade or store-bought Christmas gift in my gift cupboard little by little throughout the year. Sometimes in December, I’m even surprised by all the things I find in there :-)
Best regards, Ina
Christmas still feels a long way off for me, too. That said, I’m not enjoying summer quite as much anymore—the heat really does cloud the part of your brain responsible for coming up with ideas. Plus, my hands are just sweaty and sticky all the time, and I’m constantly running to the sink. And the worst part is, our 54th wedding anniversary is on August 11—we’ll see what we come up with for it, but I think with this heat, it’ll be a “chill-at-home day” for the two of us, maybe the three of us.
I haven’t started on anything Christmas-specific yet.
But the scarf I’m currently knitting is definitely wintery.
I still have a bit of work left to do on that.
I’m already working on new Christmas gift bags, but that’s mostly because I love to embroider and these designs just need to be put to use.

For now, it’s all about fall with new ideas for pumpkins and acorns.
I’m currently designing a pattern for Christmas.
