Wow, Petra, you’re really setting the world record for UFOs. I thought I had a lot, but not that many after all.

I don’t know exactly how many right now: the ones that come to mind are, for example: 

1. an unfinished monkey is still lying around
2. an owl still needs its second wing, and then to be sewn together
3. a started crocheted triangular shawl
4. finish crocheting a mosaic blanket
5. a crocheted doll still needs a head and hair
6. continue crocheting a crochet blanket with various patterns and granny squares according to the pattern
7. finish a giant mosaic granny square

Ina , thanks for the tip about the black lace. I should still have some lying around somewhere.
I used leftover yarn and wasn’t sure if I’d have enough for the border. It ended up being too short, so I had to keep crocheting with “light” yarn. You might think there are two pieces layered on top of each other. Oh well.

Hooray, I finally managed to finish a UFO.
A granny square top for myself that had been sitting in my yarn box. I started it sometime about a year ago. Crocheted without a pattern using leftover yarn and leftover yarn cakes.

I’m still struggling with my cough. I’ve also developed a minor sinus infection, and it still hurts (in my cheek and around my teeth). I just can’t seem to get back on my feet.
Luckily, I’m still on vacation and have next week off—I’m grateful for that—so I can take the time to recover.
It’s not that easy to do nothing; my hands are itching to crochet, do spring cleaning, tidy up… it will just have to wait.

The time change doesn’t bother me either—I’m at home. They could have gotten rid of that nonsense a long time ago.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing nearby yet, and on top of that, the trains aren’t running as usual—construction… service disruptions… Delays…
It’s a disaster.
But I still have a little stash left.

I like to work from patterns. I tried going off the cuff once, but the proportions didn’t look so great.
That said, I do tend to cobble together a pattern from several different ones.
I once crocheted a doll, using the legs and arms from one pattern and the body from another (which fit perfectly), and just like that, a new little figure was finished.

I crochet whatever comes to mind, depending on my mood and what I feel like doing.
I just don’t have enough space in my apartment for decorations. So I have to keep it minimal.

Maybe a bunny here and there, or little pumpkins in the fall. Just little things.

Gauge swatch... I've never made one. I often crochet with thin yarn using a 2.5 needle, and the size is perfect for what I need (for amigurumi).

Yeah, it’s weird—I don’t know why, but sometimes a ball of yarn just hops into the basket, smiles at me, and says, “Please take me home.”
Earlier this week I had physical therapy, and afterward I stopped by our only yarn and craft store, where three balls of Katia yarn practically jumped out at me. Since that color was sold out, I had to take them home. Other than that, I stayed strong.
Until the next “jump attack” :-))

Oh dear, Ina , I hope you get well soon. Sometimes you just need a little break, and then hopefully things will start looking up again.

I’ve been struggling with a cold for three weeks now, too. Especially the cough.
I have so many things I’d like to do, but unfortunately I have to work again. Hope I’ll be okay; otherwise, it’s back to the doctor.
Crocheting is always an option, as is beading and making cards. That’s really my thing right now.
The weather isn’t exactly great (wind, rain).

Oh yes, the good old knitting dolly. Mine’s in my sewing basket—one made of wood and a plastic replica. I used to love working with them.
These days, my fingers don’t always cooperate. I also got a newer one with a crank. It goes in a flash. I use it often for my little crocheted bags. Handy.
It’s all coming back to me.

I also wish everyone a relaxing weekend with plenty of sunshine (it’s supposed to be nice again), maybe on the balcony with your craft supplies, or in your gardens.
For me, Women’s Day is just a day like any other. Back in the old days, it used to be something different (an afternoon coffee party at work with cake and flowers).
Plus, I still need to shake off this cold. My doctor says it’s supposed to be a particularly aggressive flu this year.
It’s been about three weeks now, so a little sun on the balcony is doing me a world of good. It’s just this pollen—which might already be in the air—that’s making me more susceptible again.
Still, I’m going to relax a bit, do some crocheting, soak up the sun, and watch Ms. Magpie build her nest. Interesting.

Cereal bowls

I love crafts because I enjoy them. It’s such a great way to relax. First, I make myself really comfortable. I find a nice, quiet, and above all cozy spot right in my garden. There are enough trees to provide shade, and my garden chair is so comfortable. My coffee will be ready any minute now; I usually set it on the little table next to the garden chair. There’s a loud crash as my garden gate rattles. There stands my neighbor’s dog—he opened the garden gate all by himself. He rushes toward me, and I can clearly tell that he’s set his sights on the basket full of yarn sitting right next to me. I jump up instantly to move the basket to safety, but my neighbor’s dog, Lumpi, is faster. He happily and energetically sticks his wet snout into the balls of yarn, and… suddenly the doorbell rings—it’s the mail carrier. He’s holding a huge cardboard box and waiting impatiently for me to open the door. But first I have to get my yarn basket out of Lumpi’s reach, then I rush to the front door, hastily brush the yarn fuzz off my clothes, and take the package from the slightly annoyed mail carrier.
Curious… as I am, I have to open the package right away, but first I give the patient mail carrier a tip. Then I can finally unwrap the package, and I’m really delighted by what’s inside—it’s full of yarn. There’s also a new crochet hook and, of course, a beautiful little piece of cotton fabric. What a joy. I look around for my key. Ah, there it is—I grab the key and the new yarn package. I walk to the door and see out of the corner of my eye a barking ball of yarn running toward me on four legs, dragging a tangled mess of yarn behind it. Before I know it… chaos has ensued—all the balls of yarn are completely tangled up. What now…? Panic sets in…

I still had quite a few scraps of yarn, and since I like to crochet smaller projects every now and then, and with Easter just around the corner—and because I love spring with all its bright colors—I made these little bunnies. Finished in one go. Only the head is sewn on. They’re
8 cm tall.

Oh, Petra, your place looks so inviting—especially your crochet corner; I could really get into that.
The crochet-covered walker is, of course, the highlight. I work in nursing. I think if I started covering walkers with crochet, they’d think I was crazy. No, joking aside—it wouldn’t even be hygienically feasible. But it’s definitely an eye-catcher.
If the weather stays like this, I might be able to move my crafts out onto the balcony soon. Right now I still have to be careful because of my cold—I’m still a bit under the weather. I’ve been dealing with it for three weeks now.

How about a forum game where it turns into a story again? (There was one here in the forum ages ago.)

Instead of individual words, everyone could write one sentence, and the next person adds another sentence ... and so on, so that
in the end a story is created. Nobody knows how the story will end.

e.g. "I love crafts". The next person writes the 2nd sentence, e.g. "because I enjoy it" .... and so on.

What do you think?

Petra Perle, your papier-mâché head is amazing; it looks so great. Did you use regular paints and then varnish it? I can’t get enough of it. What kind of craft glue did you use?

Blooming (the awakening of nature)

Thanks, Josefa—I wish the same for all of you. Unfortunately, I have to work this weekend again. If I’m not too tired, I’ll do a little crocheting.
My husband and I don’t give each other gifts just because it’s Valentine’s Day. We still think of each other anyway. Someday we’ll go out for a nice meal when I’m off work and well-rested. Plus, my husband’s birthday is coming up soon—I’ll have the day off then, so we’ll make up for everything.
Right now, my husband is recovering from a cold.

I’m working on another mosaic blanket. Crocheted with cotton yarn, following a pattern I found online. I was just fascinated by the pattern, and I can use up my leftover yarn for it. I like it colorful and cheerful.

It’s going to be a cover for the washing machine. But it’s not quite finished yet.

Your ray of sunshine

I’m still recovering from my bad cold. I’m feeling better now—it’s starting to subside—but now my husband has caught it too. We’re taking care of each other now.
I’m slowly starting to feel like crocheting again. My colorful granny square, made using the mosaic technique, is growing row by row.
I’m doing 1–2 rounds every day, since they’re getting bigger and longer. I take breaks in between.

Hi there, dear crafting friends!
First of all, I’d like to send my best wishes for a speedy recovery to everyone who’s been struggling with illness, and lots of strength.

Health-wise, I’m actually doing okay, except for my back pain. They told me it might be sciatica. I have no idea. Since I have to walk a lot at work, it hurts here and there. Not very pleasant.

Luckily, we all have our yarn hobby or other crafts to distract us a bit and take our minds off things.
Another great way for me to unwind (since I always have this inner restlessness) is drawing mandalas. There are awesome videos where you can trace along step by step—it totally relaxes me, and I forget everything around me.
I also often go to dance teas, and this past Wednesday I went to a carnival party (after working the early shift), and I was totally wiped out afterward but happy.
You should always make time for little highlights like that. 

I’m continuing to work on my mosaic blanket (which I started last year but had to put on hold).
I’m halfway done.
The color combination isn’t quite my style, but these are leftover skeins from a swap package.

Oh yeah, things are pretty explosive over there. :-) Just picturing it now—I would’ve fallen out of my chair in shock, too.
But it all turned out okay in the end.

I didn’t know about these Compliment Days either, at least not by their specific dates.

But… at work, they’ve introduced something like this. There’s a sheet hanging on the bulletin board where anyone can tear off a compliment, and you can then give it to a coworker who the compliment applies to—for that particular workday.
In any case, I often give compliments to my residents at work when they’re wearing a pretty new blouse or have a new hairstyle—it really warms the heart. They thank me with a smile. It’s so nice.

In today’s sometimes hectic, heartless world, we need things like this—it’s just good for the soul.
