Do you have any ideas for repairing this basket?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been thinking for weeks about how I could fix this little basket I bought.
This synthetic fiber is just falling apart.

I’d love to sew something, but then I’d need a fabric basket for both the inside and outside, and that wouldn’t really work....
A felt cover? How do I get it to fit perfectly?
I can’t think of anything to crochet.

My only idea: Cut strips from a T-shirt, tie them to the wire, and then basically weave them around the wire?

Can you think of anything better or prettier?

Well, I’d crochet around the frame. Get rid of the old stuff and replace it with crocheted panels in whatever color works best for you.

I’d buy 3 mm thick felt and weave it the same way the basket was woven, measuring it beforehand so it fits

Best regards, Inge

I’d probably sew an outer cover that extends over the front. I’d attach snaps to the overhanging edge and position the counterparts so that the edge can be folded inward around the wire basket and snapped shut.
Hopefully that makes sense...

I’d also sew, maybe using a sturdy, coarse fabric.

Monika once sewed a cover for a laundry basket. Maybe you can use that as a guide.

I’m curious to see your result/solution.

I’d do it the same way as Veronika.
Take the old stuff off, crochet thick strips, and then weave them together like the original. In a solid color or multicolored, maybe with little tassels dangling down at the corners. Yes.
I’m curious to see what you decide. Then please post a photo for all of us :-)

Hi!
I’d use a clothesline and wrap it around the wire frame in a figure-eight pattern—just like those garden chairs from the ’60s and ’70s. - Waterproof and washable. 🙂
