Dear community,
who among you has the very most UFOs = unfinished objects?
Beautiful new patterns are available here, in case you need more supplies.

Then I’ll start, because I have quite a lot. Since January I’ve been writing down all the ones I find and when they landed.

Which UFOs are still slumbering in some boxes?

  1. Shawl collar - buttons are still missing
  2. Shawl collar - buttons are still missing
  3. Finish knitting Twisted wrist warmers  - 01/28/2026
  4. Noppi hat - weave in ends - finish writing the pattern
  5. Finish sewing the granny blanket together
  6. Phone case - sew together and sew on button
  7. Seat cushion jeans star
  8. Seat cushion pastel colors
  9. Christmas star cushion
  10. Wrist warmers with bobbles - sew together and weave in ends
  11. Wrist warmers with bobbles - green Juvel
  12. Baby sweater pink / green Catania
  13. 3 started borders - what should I do with them?
  14. Finish crocheting terracotta scarf - wedding postponed, shawl wasn’t finished
  15. Knit owls
  16. Crochet bunny - from pattern - head doesn’t fit
  17. Blue lovey blanket with head
  18. Crochet blanket with different patterns
  19. Cabled scarf - what comes next
  20. Red - yellow Noppi hat
  21. Crocheted bee
  22. Crochet blanket post double crochet

  26. Finish stitching fawn cross-stitch
  27. Winter embroidered picture - finished stitching, still needs to be sewn
  28. Sheep embroidered picture
  29. Triangular shawl - finished up to the last 10 stitches
  30. Cross-stitch with bees and flowers
  31. Number cube 1-6
  32. Number cube counting backward
  33. Pumpkin and leaves appliquéd
  34. April embroidered picture wants to be sewn up - 02/14/26
  35. Heat pad cover frogged on 03/22/26
  36. Bread basket liner sheep motif frogged on 03/22/26
  37. Crocheted dishcloth Ronald olive - finished on 03/30/26
  38. Crocheted dishcloth Ronald mint - finished on 03/31/26
  39. Crocheted dishcloth blue
  40. Crocheted dishcloth white

40 UFOs found, 7 frogged or finished, still 33 UFOs to finish.

Then I also have 4 WiPs (Work in Progress) - a dishcloth that I keep crocheting on the train, an embroidered picture, my placemat for fall, and a sewing project with an Easter bunny. But I’m still thinking about how to finish these projects. That’s why they’re WiPs and not UFOs

Dear Petra, what I’m wondering off the top of my head about No. 14: Was the wedding postponed because the shawl wasn’t finished yet?

I don’t think anyone can top your list when it comes to UFOs. I thought I had a lot, but I probably wouldn’t have come up with that many.

Oh my goodness. WollwunderPetra, when on earth are you going to get all that done?
I’m actually pretty strict about this—no UFOs! I do one thing at a time and don’t start a new project until the one I’ve started is finished. Sure, sometimes I think, “This can wait a little while before I finish it,” but then I get over that and am happy with the finished piece of handiwork. If I had a lot of projects started, I’d get totally bogged down and be dissatisfied with myself.

Wow, Petra, you’re really setting the world record for UFOs. I thought I had a lot, but not that many after all.

I don’t know exactly how many right now: the ones that come to mind are, for example:

1. an unfinished monkey is still lying around
2. an owl still needs its second wing, and then to be sewn together
3. a started crocheted triangular shawl
4. finish crocheting a mosaic blanket
5. a crocheted doll still needs a head and hair
6. continue crocheting a crochet blanket with various patterns and granny squares according to the pattern
7. finish a giant mosaic granny square

As for me, I only have that thick, cozy sweater on the needles—but I haven’t been working on it for very long, and I’m sure it’ll be finished in the near future. Still, sometimes I just don’t feel like knitting.
What surprises me about you guys is a UFO that’s almost completely finished—I’d never have one like that. Sure, a granny blanket like that can take a while, or if something doesn’t fit quite as planned, but sewing on a button? That’s something you can just whip up in a flash.

I took another look at my UFO list. These UFOs have been accumulating for over 12 years—ever since I started writing patterns.

Twenty UFOs are unfinished patterns. They’re crocheted or knitted, but they’re still missing that little something—whether it’s an idea, the right shape, or the pattern itself.

I think one or two of the other 13 UFOs will end up getting unraveled. Definitely the crocheted blanket—it was such a lovely yarn to work with, so I’ll turn it into something new.

Apart from my 4 PiAs, there haven’t been any new UFOs since last summer—but also no new patterns—so the circle is complete.

I have the utmost respect for all crafters who only buy yarn or fabric that they use right away. And who don’t tolerate any UFOs in their immediate surroundings.

I can’t even count all my UFOs anymore. Whenever I come across one I’d completely forgotten about, I either finish it right away or rip it out immediately. There was a time when so many new ideas came to me that it was impossible to get through them all. And as someone mentioned earlier: they’re lurking in the background the whole time and make me feel guilty. However, I always have several projects going at once—I always need a smaller craft project for when I’m on the go. Another one that’s a bit less demanding, for when I just want to unwind. And a more challenging one, for when I want to focus. Most of the time, I also have something to crochet.

After I had taken stock of all my UFOs (in several rooms)
and had absolutely no idea anymore WHAT they were all supposed to become,
I started unraveling them......
until my arms were sore from winding yarn.....
it took 2 days.

But I DIDN’T unravel ONE UFO

Yeah, I know all about unpicking too. Just today I unraveled something too—it was supposed to be a cover for the armrest of an armchair or the couch, with a cat’s head on top and pockets on the side for the remote or other small items. But I didn’t like it at all—so back to square one—or maybe not. ;-)
But I really like the UFO I didn’t unpick.

I actually don’t have many UFOs that I’ve started.

To be exact, three different shawls.

But one of those shawls breaks my all-time UFO record. I made the first notes for the shawl back in 2017. And now, after working on it on and off, it’s finally becoming a shawl. :o

UFO No. 41—found it yesterday and unraveled it right away. Even though the yarn called for needle sizes 2.5–3.5, the scarf was much too tight for me when I used a size 3.5 needle.

Who’s going to finish up my UFOs? This happens to me all the time—everything’s knitted, but the pieces still need to be sewn together, ends need to be woven in, buttons need to be sewn on....
And hats still need pom-poms or tassels.
Half-finished doll clothes, or a little hat is still missing.
I think these are the tasks nobody likes, or the ones where you have to measure everything out first. And there’s no one around to nag you about it.
And what often happens to me is that I already have something new in mind that I want to start, or I come across some yarn while rummaging through my stash, which sparks a spontaneous idea or reminds me of a pattern I saw.
I definitely have around 20 to 30 UFOs lying around here.
But I don’t have any projects that I have to rip out or that I no longer like. I always rip them out immediately if I don’t like them or if the yarn isn’t quite right after all.
