Haha, I can believe it—that’s not a good saying for our mothers’ generation. I think it’s absolutely right. I used to always say that in our house, you can only eat off the floor if you’re faster than the dog.

I hadn’t heard that saying before. Well, people used to think differently back then. Today I see it the same way you do, Inge.
It’s okay to let things get a little dusty sometimes. Our time on earth is so precious—why waste it cleaning?

The motto: as much as necessary, and as little as possible.

That saying is good—my illness has taught me that you can get by with less cleaning.
Back in village helper school, our teacher used to tell us, “You clean when the guests leave, not when they arrive.” That’s how I do it now, too.
There should be a certain balance—I’m lucky that my friend is often over; she’s a cleaning fiend.
When she comes over, she vacuums and cleans everything. Then we play, and we’re both happy.
