Papaya Potholder



This potholder is quick to knit. You’ll need some leftover cotton yarn and knitting needles, and then you’re ready to go.
The pattern is simple, so even beginners can enjoy a sense of achievement. There is a knitting chart, but it is also written out row by row.

You’ll need rather thinner yarn for it—I’ve knitted it several times; sock-weight yarn or something a little thicker works well—and either a set of double-pointed needles or a circular knitting needle, 3.5 mm for the ribbing and 4 mm for the rest.

Every year, once Christmas is over, I resolve to start early next time, but somehow it never works out. I’m not really a Christmas person and I don’t do decorations, but everyone loves homemade gifts. It usually ends up being October or November, and then I start to stress out.

Longing for the Caribbean? Then knit it into being!

Here is the pattern for it.



A bag that is knitted in the round from bottom to top. A simple slipped-stitch pattern in two colors creates that Caribbean flair.
You’ll need cotton yarn (yardage 69 m per 50 g), 2 skeins of color A and 1 skein of color B. It’s knitted on a 5 mm circular needle. You’ll also need a stitch marker.

“Boho in Soho” is a light and airy summer scarf that is both knitted and crocheted.

The long section is knitted, while the ends with the fringe are crocheted. Using thick cotton yarn, you’ll see results quickly.

Happiness is the absence of wishes.
But happiness is also when you find a lucky penny on the street. You can get the bag for collecting lucky pennies from me.

The little bag is knitted from top to bottom in rounds. Two remnants of sock yarn are enough, approx. 55 m in red and 40 m in a contrasting color. It is knitted on 2.5 mm double-pointed needles. Of course, you can also use other yarns; that will affect the size of the bag, but a bag isn’t something that has to fit.
There is a knitting chart for the hearts.

I personally find my goldfish really funny, especially the little runaway one.

It is knitted in rounds from the bottom up, has a knitted-in goldfish border, and the handles on top are crocheted.
You’ll need blue and yellow cotton yarn (125m per 50g), one ball of each, and a 3mm circular needle. You’ll also need a stitch marker and a crochet hook in a suitable size. That’s the basic set of supplies. If you want to line the bag, you’ll also need lining fabric, and you can also sew on a snap fastener as a closure.

Simply looks good on men's heads.

Gingham-patterned beanie.



Knitted in two colors, this beanie is a real eye-catcher. You shouldn't be a complete beginner at knitting, but this pattern works very well as a starter project for two-color knitting.
You'll need a wool-blend yarn with approximately 114m per 50g in two contrasting colors, and you'll knit with 4mm needles. The gingham pattern is shown in a knitting chart.

For cool guys (the kind who wear men’s sizes). They need an accessory like this when they roam the streets with their boombox.

A slouch hat! Some mothers may shake their heads, but believe me, your son will thank you.
The hat is knitted with a wool-blend yarn (yardage 150 m per 50 g); sock yarn is suitable too. The amount needed depends on the length (the longer, the slouchier), but you should plan on at least 180 m.
The pattern is simple, has no particular difficulties, and is fun to knit too.
The pattern is available in three different sizes.

So how it’ll all turn out—I have no idea. Right now, everything is accelerating; development is moving so fast. Soon there’ll be self-driving cars, goods will be produced by printers, and in some countries, nursing care is already being handled by robots. Maybe there’ll still be a few wars in 80 years—struggles over power and resources, especially between the rich and the poor.
My utopian vision is that at some point (I really can’t say how long that will take), this race will come to an end, and because people will no longer be needed for work, our humanity and sense of togetherness will grow stronger again. I’m cautiously optimistic, though I have my doubts.
Perhaps handicrafts will also take on a different meaning by then. Individually made pieces that don’t come out of a printer. Maybe entirely new professions will emerge, or old ones will be revived.
Interesting topic—I need to think about it some more :-)

In any case, it’s very thick yarn. You’ll probably have to experiment a bit to figure out how many stitches you need for the head size.
Those horizontal ribs you can see there—I’d say those are post double crochets. You crochet from the back around the double crochet from the previous round—so not into the loops at the top, but around the “stem”—and then the loops lie on the front, creating a raised pattern.

A pretty project for the leftover sock yarn from your last sock project is these wrist warmers.

They are knitted sideways in rows, and you need about 90 m of sock yarn for them. Super quick to make and not hard at all.

A big advantage when you’re sitting outside: the wind can’t blow your pile of notes away.

How about an unusual pink scarf?

Not only are the colors eye-catching, the shape is quite something too. It’s an elongated "V" that also continues in the pattern.
The scarf is knitted with sock yarn; you’ll need two different colors, one 100g ball of each, and 3mm knitting needles. The pattern is worked entirely in garter stitch, with the color changes happening right in the middle of the row. That may sound difficult, but you’ll pick up the technique quickly.
Definitely a piece people will envy you for!

You’ll need thick cotton yarn (170 m per 100 g) and 5.5 mm knitting needles. Yarn usage depends on the desired length; for mine, which is 130 cm long, I used 3 skeins.

This infinity scarf is well suited to beginner knitters, as it’s worked in a very simple knit-and-purl pattern. The biggest challenge is joining the stitches to work in the round. Once you’ve managed that, you can’t really go wrong.
The pattern is fully written out, and there’s also a chart for the spiral pattern. Knitted in thick yarn on 8 mm needles, it works up quickly.

This is a crochet pattern for a scarf in neon colors. If you prefer it more subtle, go ahead, but this scarf simply looks striking in sock yarn in bright colors
It's not difficult to crochet, a simple lace pattern with cables (which are explained in a tutorial). You need sock yarn, approx. 700–800 m, and a 3.5 mm crochet hook.

I’m glad it’s working out now!

3 sts = 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc. Those are the three stitches. So at the beginning, you skip one single crochet, then work (1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc), all in the same stitch, then skip another one, and so on. The 3 stitches look like a V. In the next row, you’ll always crochet these 3 stitches into the V. You’ll probably keep going like this for a while until the piece reaches the desired size.
