Life in the Year 2097 (no advertising)

Dear users, dear authors,
how will people live in the year 2097?
Newborn girls nowadays have a life expectancy of 80+ years, if I remember correctly.
So it really isn’t that far away anymore. Girls tend to have a higher life expectancy than boys anyway.

Will there still be handmade crafts ?
Will we all have a plug in our heads to replace the smartphone that has grown firmly onto our hands?
Will there still be cars, or will we all be flying through the streets?
Let me know.
Here are a few aliens and monsters. :-)
They’re already among us anyway. ;-) By 2097, will they also be living together with us openly and visibly?
This thread isn’t necessarily meant to be totally serious, but I’d find it exciting to hear how you all imagine 2097.

So how it’ll all turn out—I have no idea. Right now, everything is accelerating; development is moving so fast. Soon there’ll be self-driving cars, goods will be produced by printers, and in some countries, nursing care is already being handled by robots. Maybe there’ll still be a few wars in 80 years—struggles over power and resources, especially between the rich and the poor.
My utopian vision is that at some point (I really can’t say how long that will take), this race will come to an end, and because people will no longer be needed for work, our humanity and sense of togetherness will grow stronger again. I’m cautiously optimistic, though I have my doubts.
Perhaps handicrafts will also take on a different meaning by then. Individually made pieces that don’t come out of a printer. Maybe entirely new professions will emerge, or old ones will be revived.

I won't be around anymore then, unless I reach a biblical age....
My son will be 80 then — that's quite realistic.

I imagine that we'll travel differently. Hopefully more environmentally conscious, using electricity or other energy on Earth and also farther away. So, to other planets. Maybe not yet to live there, but to do research.

Technology will be advanced enough that things will be easier for all of us — whatever everyone may imagine that to mean. I would already think it was great if, when I want to open the garage door electrically, it works on the first press and not, like today, not at all.

There will always be crafts. Because every person has the need to express their creativity. Will we find alien sheep on other planets that have dirt-repellent wool that never scratches and doesn't shrink in the wash?

Too bad, if I could start over again in the year 2097, well, in my fantasy world, I would become a sheep breeder on a planet that I name after my Grandma Hermine. There would be sheep in all colors there — with wool that doesn't scratch, is dirt-repellent, and never shrinks in the wash anyway. And every evening I count the sheep 1,2,3,4,5,6,7....snore snore snore.....

Well, I definitely won’t be around to see that year… ;-)

How do I picture the world in 2097? I think self-driving cars are a realistic possibility, since they’re already being tested today.

I could also easily imagine that travel will take on a whole new dimension. For example, no more flying, but traveling by teleporter or underground… that’s all being researched already, too.
I’d hope that diseases like cancer or AIDS would be a thing of the past by then.
However, overpopulation is likely to be a major problem by that year....

I really, really hope that there will still be needlework by then and that not everything will be completely computerized... 

By 2097, this life will be over for me too—but who knows, reincarnation is a tricky thing…

Well, I hope there will still be sheep, alpacas, and the like by then. Then crafting could be a luxury in self-driving/flying cars. And maybe you’ll even be able to order wool like this: “Alexa, please get 600 g of hand-dyed Merino Lace—right away” :-D

Well, I think things are going back again. If things keep progressing this fast, there will probably soon be more and more people who opt out and turn to simpler, more traditional things in their free time ;-)

It’s already a trend today… back to DIY! That’s exactly what’s fueling the huge hype around pattern sales right now.
In recent years, it’s become clear that DIY—in whatever form—is on the rise. The more digital the world becomes, the more many people are turning to things they can do themselves:
wallpapering, tinkering, gardening, painting, cooking, baking, and so on and so forth.

But I don’t even want to imagine what the year 2097 will look like. There will be wars again—not over “land and power,” but over resources.  It will be about water....
And if things continue the way they are in the world right now—with populists gaining more and more support—then I’m filled with fear and dread. But by then, I won’t be on this earth anymore, and I don’t want to be a fly on the wall either.

Well, I’m still mulling over the topic itself.
There were times when people in this country were struggling. Whatever the future held, things could only get better. Now it somehow feels like the opposite.

But I, too, believe that handicrafts—or craftsmanship in general—will always be there to satisfy the need to create something with one’s own hands from start to finish.
People always want to be both herd animals and individualists; keeping that balance will still be at the heart of many

crises of life and meaning in 2097...and if Alexa can’t conjure up the 600 grams of merino, we’ll spin it ourselves ☺
