Children who can crochet double crochet and chain stitches can also give this scarf a try. It’s crocheted with very thick yarn (for children’s necks, you may want to choose slightly thinner yarn and a smaller crochet hook than specified in the pattern) and is a lot of fun. I confess, I’ve started a new scarf. But I did finish another scarf last week. So the number of WIPs hasn’t gone up.

Berta briefly considered calling the police, but then she mustered all her courage and walked toward the source of the moaning.

The only thing missing was any sign of Kai-Uwe himself, which was rather unusual for that time of day—or rather, night.

Cautiously and with her heart pounding, she closed the door again and rang her neighbor’s doorbell—a neighbor who had often come to her rescue in times of dire need.

I think in all our forum games, we’ve either reached the “Q” or the “X” by now. Anyone up for a new game? Let’s tell a mystery story. Everyone writes one sentence, and by the end, hopefully we’ll know who the culprit is :-)

Late one evening, when Berta came home exhausted from her job as a waitress at a small downtown restaurant and unlocked her apartment door—her mind already on the scarf she wanted to knit a few more rows of before going to bed—she froze in shock, because there was a shoe under her sofa that definitely didn’t belong to her.

This scarf is also a bit out of the ordinary, as it is both knitted and crocheted. The long part of the scarf is knitted lengthwise, and the ends with the fringes are crocheted.

A bit outside the norm—here you literally have to “think around the corner.” A V-shaped scarf that also forms an elongated V through its color scheme. It is knitted from sock yarn and really consists only of knit stitches. The trick is that you change color between the rows. Simple in itself, but it requires a bit of attention.

Potholder with Small Hearts Using the Double-Knitting Technique



For this potholder, you’ll need cotton yarn in two different colors. When double-knitting, I recommend choosing a needle size slightly smaller than what’s indicated on the yarn label. The technique isn’t exactly easy—so this isn’t a beginner’s pattern—but it produces a stunning result. You end up with two mirror-image sides, and the fabric is twice as thick, which is ideal for a potholder.
