Advanced Patterns ++ with Exciting Challenges

If all that still isn’t difficult enough for you, I’ve got a real treat here: a scarf in double knitting with several different motifs. You should bring some experience with the technique and quite a bit of patience for this.

You can find the pattern here.

Advanced Patterns ++ with Exciting Challenges

Things get a little trickier with a lace shawl. But that’s nothing to be afraid of. The shawl can be knitted in any size you like, and the yarn needed will depend on that. You’ll need sock-weight yarn and a circular knitting needle. Everything else is explained in detail in the pattern, both in writing and with several knitting charts.

Here’s the pattern.

Advanced Patterns ++ with Exciting Challenges

How about it? Would you like to try your hand at knitted cables or lace patterns? You can do just that with this scarf.

You’ll find the pattern here.

It’s not extremely difficult, but it’s definitely not suitable for beginners!
You’ll need sock yarn or yarn of a similar weight; the amount you’ll need depends on the desired length.

Beginner Patterns for Quick Successes

Dishcloths or potholders are often rewarding projects for beginner knitters, too. You can try out new patterns, and success comes quickly. You also don't need much material; leftover cotton is enough.
This cloth is made with knit and purl stitches; that's all you need to know for it.

You can find the pattern here.

This infinity scarf is also very quick to make because it is knitted from especially thick yarn. The only difficulty is joining the knitted piece in the round. Otherwise, it is very straightforward; the pattern consists entirely of knit and purl stitches.

Even beginners can give this headband a try. You’ll need to know how to knit in the round and master knit and purl stitches. The pattern is written out round by round and also presented in a knitting chart. With just a small scrap of yarn, you’re all set—and you’ll soon be able to enjoy something you knitted yourself.

Handmade Décor / Make Yourself Comfortable

A decorative pillow isn’t just decorative—it’s also useful, because you can lie on it. That’s always nice.

With this pattern, you can knit one yourself.

This pillow cover is knitted using two colors of cotton yarn. It features an interlaced pattern that looks very complicated but isn’t complicated at all. The pattern is written out row by row and is also presented in a knitting chart.

What are you working on right now?

Since the scrap-yarn shawl is now largely finished, I can get back to my socks. I’m also knitting a sweater (rather half-heartedly), and I’m currently crocheting a shopping bag.

Project Week: Making the Most of Leftovers // 10/30 - 11/6

Yesterday I knitted until my fingers were sore. I still have to weave in the ends, and I still have to block it. There are about 775 meters of leftover sock yarn in it.

are there any yarn shops near you? I’d be very surprised if they didn’t carry merino wool.

Dear Josefa,
thank you so much for awarding me the title. I think everyone here in the thread has done a great job.
Right now, I’m using up my very last bit of leftover yarn (I’d have more, but then the shawl would be too big). Maybe I’ll be able to show you all the finished shawl tomorrow.

This knitted hat has dots too—in this case, the dots are snowflakes falling onto a deeply snow-covered landscape.

You can find the pattern here.

This hat comes in 3 sizes. The winter motif is shown in a knitting chart.

A scarf in double knitting technique with lots of dots looks smart and is fun to make.

Here is the pattern.

The scarf is made up of different motifs that all share dots as a common theme. After the halfway point, these motifs are mirrored. Not suitable for beginners!

The Emmentaler bundle consists of a scarf, a hat, and wrist warmers. It’s called “Emmentaler” because all 3 have the same pattern with small holes that somehow look like Swiss cheese.

All 3 of these accessories are knitted from sock yarn, and I can tell you that the pattern is really fun. A photo tutorial helps with the knitting.

The hat and matching loop scarf are available from me together as a set.

You can find it here.

Both are knitted from sock yarn and are therefore lightweight accessories that are well suited for the transitional seasons. The hat is available in 4 different sizes, and the loop scarf can also be easily adapted to different sizes by changing the number of stitches.

How was your weekend?

My weekend was peaceful. On Saturday, I met up with a friend, and yesterday was all about “lounging on the couch.” Just like Christina, I kept knitting on my leftover yarn project.

You’ve made some amazing things. It’s truly fascinating what you can create from leftover yarn.
I just did the math—so far, I’ve used just under 600 meters of leftover sock yarn for my shawl. But I’m going to keep going. I still have a little leftover yarn left.

Crafting on the Weekend: Your New Project

A scarf made with gradient yarn is fun to knit and will surely be needed soon. You can find the pattern here.

This scarf is knitted from fine yarn in a lace and cable pattern. Yarn usage depends on the desired length.
The pattern looks much more complicated than it is—you don’t even need a cable needle for the cables.

Using leftover yarn: make use of short + colorful leftovers

With 20 m of cotton, you’re all set. You don’t need more than that for a bookmark like this. If you have more yarn left over, you can of course knit more of them :-)

Here is the pattern.

These bookmarks are finished in no time and make great little gifts for people who love to read. They have a lace pattern shown in a knitting chart. Each one takes about an hour to make.

Shopping Bags / Market Bags

Very practical because you can tuck it away and then pull it out anytime the perfect Christmas gift jumps out at you and you simply have to buy it: a knitted bag. It’s about the size of those fabric bags you’re probably familiar with, but it’s a bag not everyone has.
It’s knitted from cotton in an onion pattern, which is shown both in written-out form and in a knitting chart. You can use thick cotton or thin cotton, it doesn’t matter—both are described in the pattern.

Here’s the bag.
