Design and Trends on Tuesday / Trend Scouts on the Go // The ’80s Are Back

Dear users, dear authors,
what does your fashion sense tell you about the latest designs and trends?
Anything new?

The ’80s are back—again—and here to stay. That’s no big surprise, since the ’70s were back—again—and here to stay for ages before that. :-) Nothing stays out of style forever. ;)
Who among you is into shoulder pads, bold colors, and “big hair” with extra-heavy hairspray?

As the all-knowing fashion oracle I’d love to be but am not, I’m predicting—maybe, possibly—a ’90s revival. But it could also be that the ’80s still need a little while to finish their revival. How did you spend the ’90s? What kinds of trends do you think might make a comeback?

Who wants to share their thoughts on fashion faux pas, trends, and everything in between?

Happy Tuesday. :-)

In the ’90s, I went from being a teen to being in my twenties. I wore miniskirts—and they were really mini.
I can also remember lots of denim. Skirts, dresses, shirts. So many shirts—and I didn’t have to iron them myself yet.....
Weren’t batwing sweaters in style back then? Really fluffy, with glitter worked into them. I had one in bright pink, knitted by an aunt.
Then there were the high-waisted trousers. And with them, crocheted tops. I made those myself by then.

Oh Josefa, that was so long ago. And it really was a lovely time. That carefree time when you’re only responsible for yourself, but still have all the support and the protective hand of your parents.

I’m kind of waiting for shoulder pads to come back *laughs* The bane of my childhood *g*

I can’t wait for those miserably tight pant legs to go out of style again. I prefer bootcut jeans, but they’re nowhere to be found in stores right now… as if it weren’t hard enough already to find jeans that fit right… I’m also a child of the ’90s, and aside from those blouses with the extra-wide “clown collars,” it was a great time…

The ’90s were all about grunge. Suddenly, everyone was wearing flannel shirts. Personally, I didn’t mind that at all, because I’ve always liked wearing shirts. They’re comfortable.

I’m a child of the ’80s, but I can definitely do without shoulder pads, carrot trousers, and mullets. ^^
I still shudder when I think of those shoulder pads, which kept getting wider and wider until you almost looked like a rugby player.
So, not everything really needs to come back *laughs*.

Oops… of course I don’t mean rugby—I mean American football. ^^

I was also into grunge when it came to fashion (and, well, music, too).
Jean shorts, a T-shirt, a lumberjack shirt tied around my hips, thick knit socks in Doc Martens… my “summer dress” back in ’94 ;)
The jeans, T-shirts, Docs, and thick socks have stuck around/made a comeback…and I still love plaid shirts, too—just everything’s “a bit” more polished than back then.

In the late ’90s—around ’97, ’98, and ’99, around the time of my high school graduation—my closet was packed with short mini-skirts with side slits or pleats, along with cute blouses and knit cardigans...plus Marlene trousers and bootcut jeans...both of which are still favorites of mine and, thankfully, making a comeback...

So, ’80s...get lost...Hello ’90s ;)
