I have to say, I also had trouble with the search function here at first. I’ve found that you get the best results with single-word searches. It’s not that hard, you realize, and, delighted by your newfound knowledge, you immediately add the beautiful, hand-dyed alpaca yarn to your shopping bag—10 skeins of it, because after all, you don’t just want to crochet two rows; you might as well go all out. When you go to buy some chips afterward, you opt for the cheap brand to recoup your costs.

Slightly more adventurous beginners might perhaps dare to try an infinity scarf.

It is knitted from very thick yarn (100 m per 100 g) on 8 mm needles. In itself, it’s no great feat, and it’s finished quickly. Here, too, only knit and purl stitches are used. The only difficulty is that you knit in the round, which means you have to join your knitted piece into a round.

I have to say, the whole palm oil thing is really getting on my nerves by now. It’s in almost everything. The only way I see to avoid it is to stop buying processed foods altogether. Last week, I thought to myself—just as a quick meal when I’m home alone and really don’t feel like cooking anything elaborate—that a packet of instant soup would be just the thing. I haven’t bought any in ages, but suddenly the idea just popped into my head. That is, until I read the ingredient list. Can someone please tell me what palm oil is doing in a packet of instant soup?
The problem with cooking from scratch, on the other hand, is that even vegetables are often wrapped in plastic these days. You can’t buy tomatoes or apples individually anymore—I’ve even seen radishes sealed in thick plastic wrap—but then I’m told I’m not allowed to use plastic bags. So basically, the responsibility is being shifted from the wholesaler to the consumers, who—unless they have a farmers’ market nearby—can’t do anything to fight back against this packaging frenzy.
As for how much homemade shopping bags can hold—mine aren’t crocheted, but knitted—I’ve carried some pretty heavy loads home with them. I don’t buy beverages because I get my drinking water from the tap, but milk can really add up in weight. I’d say they can easily handle up to 10 kilos.

This is definitely a beginner-friendly knitting pattern made up of knit and purl stitches. It is knitted in thick cotton yarn, although I would recommend choosing a slightly smaller needle size than normally suggested for the yarn so that the fabric comes out nice and dense.

This scarf is very colorful.



It’s crocheted from sock yarn; you’ll need two 100g skeins. The pattern is a simple mesh pattern with cables worked in between. You can learn how to do that in a photo tutorial.

Once the bottle of champagne is empty, I recommend postponing the rest of the project until tomorrow. Put the single crochet stitches away somewhere the cat can’t reach them and go to sleep. While you’re a little tipsy, inspiration will surely strike overnight about what this whole thing is supposed to be. You might want to have a headache pill ready for tomorrow.

The main reason was actually that I didn’t want to go to work anymore. Too much stress, too much wasted time, not enough life. So I thought about what I could do, and then, a little over two years ago, I published my first pattern. It took a while for everything to fall into place—at times it was even more stressful than just having a full-time job—but now I can say it’s paid off. Goal achieved. My last day at work was at the end of April. On the side, I’ve also found some freelance work in a completely different field, but my main source of income is definitely the patterns. Of course, I’m not making a fortune, but it’s enough to live on. I’m extremely satisfied and, above all, very relieved.
If anyone is thinking about taking this step—don’t expect miracles, but believe in yourself and don’t let anyone talk you into thinking it’s nonsense!

In autumn, it’s often already quite chilly in the mornings and evenings. Your fingers get cold, but you still don’t want to wrap up too warmly. Wrist warmers are a great solution.

They’re quick to make and, knitted in sock yarn, not too thick either - ideal for the transitional season. On the back of the hand, they have a fun lace pattern that is knitted in a very unusual way. There is a photo tutorial and also a knitting chart.

Last winter, I noticed a lot of geometric patterns on accessories for the first time. Not on garments (maybe that’s still to come), but on infinity scarves and scarves. From everything I’ve read, this trend will continue this fall and winter and become even stronger.

Here is an infinity scarf with geometric elements.



This infinity scarf is inspired by an Op Art exhibition I visited a long time ago. A small optical illusion is built in. It is knitted in double-face technique using sock yarn (you can also use somewhat thicker yarns). This technique has a special appeal because both sides of the knitted piece are equal, just with the colors reversed. It is not very easy and certainly not suitable for beginners. However, experienced knitters will have a lot of fun with it.
The pattern is shown in knitting charts. You can also use the pattern to make a scarf; it doesn’t necessarily have to be an infinity scarf.

Sometimes the wind can really whistle past your ears in the fall. A long scarf that you can wrap around yourself several times is just the thing.

That was off the mark, sorry. So, here’s another try. Before you lose your nerve, make sure you have enough comfort food! Then please watch a YouTube video on “How do I free my ball of yarn from the cat’s claws?” (or, alternatively, fill the cat’s bowl with food) and then carefully pull the crochet hook out of the wrong chain stitch. It’s possible that the yarn may accidentally wrap around the crochet hook several times in the process. Unwind it again before you tackle the project’s single crochet stitch once more.

I was thinking—maybe there are things you’ve always wanted to know, perhaps related to Crazypatterns or to some kind of craft technique, where you worry that if you ask the question, everyone will realize how inexperienced you are. But not asking doesn’t help either—I’d stay just as (un)informed as ever—so I’m going to start with my first silly question.
When I look at a shop here, there are various things to read at the top under the shop name, including “Follow.” What does that actually do? Do I get some special information that others don’t see? Or is it just there to make the shop owners happy? If it’s about making them happy, then I’d be willing to follow a few shops… And if there are any great things to see that I’ve been missing out on so far, then I’d do that too…

My newest pattern is this colorful hat for babies or toddlers (there are 3 different sizes, but you can also knit larger sizes using the same basic pattern).

Knitting pattern for the Rapunzel hat




It was inspired by the fairy tale of Rapunzel and her long braid hanging down. This hat features similar braids. It’s not easy to knit, so it’s definitely not suitable for beginners.
You’ll need yarn in 2 different colors. I used Steinbach Strapaz, which has a yardage of 150 m per 50 g. It is knitted on 4 mm needles.

Imagine this: an untouched snowy landscape. Temperatures far below freezing. The sun is shining, the sky is bright blue, but it’s so cold that your breath freezes in the air in front of your mouth. What color is the snow?
White, you’ll say. But that’s not true. Snow has many colors. The snow crystals sparkle in all the colors of the rainbow.
You can never quite achieve that with yarn—but you can certainly try!

This one is more of a long-term project, I have to warn you. Many yards of sock yarn will pass over your needles, but that’s nothing compared to a polar crossing :-) You can sit in the warmth while you work and be glad you don’t have to freeze.
