Quick apple-fruit cake or crispy pizza—both are very delicious

This cake can be varied in so many ways with different fruits. I love it especially because it has only a thin crust with lots of fruit. Tonight, it’s pizza’s turn.

Have a great weekend + happy spring

I hope you all have a lovely, warm weekend.
Here, it’s snowing nonstop and it’s freezing. On Sunday night, temperatures are expected to drop to minus 6 degrees.
And to make matters worse, we’ve been without heat since yesterday evening. They can’t seem to find the problem.
So this is anything but spring fever....

Knitting/Crocheting Socks: How Long Does It Take You to Make a Pair?

Yeah, that’s right. I never look at the clock either, and the journey is the destination—exactly. When I watch movies, a sock just seems to knit itself. I can sometimes finish one in a single evening. It’s usually around size 39. Larger socks take me longer.

The weather is constantly changing

Andrea, it looks absolutely magical over there—just like in a fairy tale. We’re in for the same thing next week. Oh well, we’ll just make ourselves cozy with our yarn and doll babies. :)

Spring is just around the corner, and that helps cheer us up a little, doesn’t it?

Winter is back

OMG, Andrea!! That looks like a real winter storm. Nope, I’m over snow too—I’m happy about every little flower peeking out. Luckily, the storm isn’t hitting us as hard down here in the south.

My Speedy Bread with Yeast Dough, but No Rising Time

Dear Ines, this is my Speedy Bread. I’m absolutely thrilled—it’s super delicious. I just couldn’t wait to cut into it and try it.

Have you ever tried leaving it in the oven after the hour is up—without the lid—and baking it for another 5 minutes? It might end up with a really crispy crust that way.

You can also open the file right here on the website. Just go to “Downloads,” then click the “Download” button, and then “View Files.” You don’t need a reader to do this, and you can see if the patterns are legible.

A little spring greeting

Yes, that’s right—I was still feeling the spring vibe yesterday, too. But today winter is back with snow and rain. The sun will shine again tomorrow, but it’ll stay chilly for now.

The flowers will probably survive. Imagine that—the starlings have been back here for a few days now. And they’re swarming our bird feeder. The bird feed balls are gone in a flash—1-2-3—and have to be refilled every day. With this cold weather, they can’t find anything else to eat. And today I actually saw a pair of blackbirds already building a nest in a tree in front of the house. I was really amazed. I wonder if it’ll work out?

How are you kicking off March? What do you hope to accomplish in March?

Well, I can definitely relate to the unfinished patterns. I definitely want to whittle those down in March.

Other than that, I still have quite a bit of knitting to do. There are a few skeins of unwanted yarn waiting to be crocheted into animal nests—for the wildlife feeding stations.

I’m also designing new patterns. So there’s plenty to do.

March is my favorite month—it’s my birthday month. :)

Your favorite yarn and color

It’s not like I don’t still have enough yarn ... it’s just that it isn’t enough for what I’d really like to make. Or it’s not the right color.

I actually managed to make it to 1 1/2 years back in May. I definitely want to get to that point before I redeem a gift card.

I still have plenty of colorful cotton too, and I’ll think about what else I can make from it. It’s perfect for summer, after all.

HELP! Circular needles are “stuck” in the stitches!

Oh, nelaj, I’m glad I was at least able to give you a good tip. :)
So unfortunately the needle did have to be sacrificed. Well, it’ll definitely go better next time. We’ve all learned from our mistakes at some point—I certainly have, more than once. ;-)

Personally, I get along much better with the CrasyTrio than with a set of double-pointed needles.

I hope you have lots of fun with your next projects.

Best regards,
Monika

Expert Crochet Tips

Oh wow—it’s truly amazing what this artist is able to create with her crochet hook. It’s hard to believe something like this is even possible. Thanks, Petra, for the detailed explanation. I’m really blown away.

I hope you all have a creative weekend, too.

’80s Nostalgia

Wow, Andrea, you have some rare treasures! I’m amazed!
I still have old DM coins, an insurance policy, and checks hidden away somewhere, too. And lots and lots of slides and photo albums.

One of my favorite childhood books still exists, too, but unfortunately it’s already falling apart. It’s the book "Tannenwald’s Nursery".

I also remember "Rosen-Resli" and another favorite book, "Grischka and His Bear". As you can see, I’ve always loved bears.

Triangular Shawls / Stoles / Scarves / Cowls: Let’s Get Crafting

Here, you can decide as you knit whether it will be a loop, a scarf, or a stole. A thin gradient yarn is recommended here. You’ll achieve a very pretty result with a color gradient.

The loop scarf features a pretty lace pattern that can also be expanded. This allows you to adjust the dimensions slightly.

Triangle shawl or poncho - you can choose whichever you prefer. That’s because you’ll be knitting both at the same time. The lace pattern with the pink waves is a real eye-catcher. Soon it’ll be time to wear it on walks or on cool summer evenings.

How's the weather where you are?

Petra, what exactly is an “ice cake”? I’m really curious. :)

It’s around 0 degrees here and it’s snowing. Let’s see how much we get—it might not be too bad. Starting tomorrow night, temperatures will drop into the double-digit sub-zero range. But by the weekend after next, daytime highs are supposed to reach up to 10 degrees above zero. So spring is on the horizon, at least a little bit.

Best regards and have a great day, everyone!

Monika

Do I need to register a business?

Hi Alkabafi,

Even if you’re just starting out, as soon as you offer something for sale, you have to register it. I’m registered with the tax office as a freelance writer. That means less paperwork.

As far as making money goes, I have to agree with my colleagues. It can take a while to get things going. And it requires a lot of hard work. For me, it started off very slowly and only picked up once I figured out what my customers liked and—most importantly—what was “mine,” meaning what sets me apart from others.

The main thing is that you genuinely enjoy being creative and designing something new. Then success will follow, even if it takes a lot of patience.

I’d also love to check out your shop.

Best regards
Monika

Quick Sheet Pan Flatbread—great for breakfast or as a side dish

This morning I realized we had neither bread nor rolls in stock. So I quickly popped a flatbread into the oven. This time, I sprinkled it with black cumin and sesame seeds. Hmmm... it was delicious again, and there’s still enough left for tomorrow’s breakfast.
