It’s finally the weekend: Do you have any plans for the weekend? How was your week?

Yes, Sofi, that’s true. No one can truly be replaced; everyone is unique. But you can love many people, even if it’s a different kind of love each time.

Letting someone go is also a form of love… and sparing them pain.

January Projects: Part 3.

Thanks, Ruth, Marion, and Mel! :)

Wow, some of you have really been working hard here.
Mel, I think your coat is absolutely beautiful, and the pattern is a real eye-catcher. It’s sure to be cozy and warm. You’ll never be cold again in that.
I’m not in the mood for big projects like that at all right now. My husband wants a thick cardigan, and the yarn’s been sitting here for quite a while. But he’ll have to wait until next winter for it.

Wollbaerli, I think your poncho is really pretty, too. The cat behind it looks funny … as if it’s wearing the poncho.

I wish you all a wonderful and productive start to the weekend!

Best regards
Monika

New Knitting Patterns from January and from December 29/30/31

Brand new in my shop is the knitting pattern for the brilliantly simple mowi heel I developed. Before, I was a sock-knitting grouch—now I’ve caught sock fever. The whole family is already happy about the new socks.

The pattern is designed for the CraSyTrio, but it can also be very easily adapted for a set of double-pointed needles. 4 different sizes are presented—baby, children, women, and men. There is also a table listing several stitch examples.

Weekend Plans: Have a great weekend, everyone :-)

I’m going to spend the weekend working on my UFO bear. I’ll also go for some walks in the snow and do a little tidying up. And, of course, knit some socks.

Leftover Yarn Weekend: Valentine’s Day and Easter Flowers // Also Great for Crafts

A very creative project for leftover yarn is this little pouch for 10 travel tissues. It’s also suitable as gift packaging for many occasions, because it’s perfect for hiding all kinds of surprises inside, for example money, rhinestones, or other nice little treats.

Suitable for beginners with basic skills.

Hard-Working Little Elves on Tuesday

I’m now knitting my fourth pair of socks this month, and I’ll have knitted four different sizes using my newly developed simple heel—with the CraSyTrio. It’s so much fun and goes really smoothly.

Yesterday and today we had apple cake—vegan, sugar-free, yeast-free, with very little fat, and still super delicious!

I wish everyone here a wonderful evening and lots of fun with whatever you’re doing.

Best, Monika

Felix, the Little Foundling Bear - a story for all stuffed-animal fans

Thanks, Wollbaerli! :)

At 10 months, the little ones are so sweet and cuddly... there’s still so much to discover.
We’ll be experiencing that again, and our next grandchild is due in May.

Oh, your Isidor is such a cutie. He looks a lot like the first teddy bear I had as a child. Unfortunately, I don’t have him anymore.

Maybe others here will share what they’ve experienced with their stuffed animals. I’d be very interested in that. In a way, we’re all still children at heart. :)

Beginner / Advanced: Where Is the (Approximate) Line?

Yes, where is the line? I think everyone defines it for themselves, and it’s very fluid.

Beginners (in my view) don’t have much experience with the technique yet, but they’ve mastered the basics.

Advanced crafters have already developed a certain routine and can master challenges such as complicated lace patterns and other patterns, reading knitting or crochet charts, etc.

Personally, I find that there’s always something new I can learn. And that’s why it never gets boring. :)

December: Christmas Elf Thread with Photos

Mel, I’m really looking forward to seeing your coat. Great that it’s finished!
Now all that’s missing is the photo.

I just finished knitting one of my new leg warmers—with a cable pattern.
I’ll finish the second one over Christmas.

Now I wish you all lots of joy with your loved ones and hope your gifts are received with delight. And of course, I hope you get something nice, too.

Oh, how beautiful your tree is, Ruth!

And now I’ll add lots of candles and a delicious holiday meal.
You can imagine it here just the way you like.

I also wish all visitors and co-authors happy holidays filled with big and small wonders. Enjoy this lovely time with your loved ones!

Finished with your Christmas gifts?

Oh, Ruth, that’s so cute! It almost makes me want to play mom to dolls again. :)
That’s sure to make the kids’ eyes light up with joy.

I also managed to finish the sweater for my granddaughter, of course.

Other than that, there aren’t any gifts. We’re giving each other time ... and we’ll enjoy delicious food together and play games. We’ll go for walks, of course, and watch some nice movies.

Having time is truly something precious that I really appreciate! :)
And of course, I’ll happily keep my needles busy.

Merry Christmas to all of you, and lots and lots of time for everything you love!

Warm regards
Monika

Christmas Gifts for Men: Download Now.

My husband asked for these crocheted ear pads for St. Nicholas Day. A good idea, I think. They’re cozy and very comfortable against the skin. Plus, they’re eco-friendly and extremely inexpensive. Because all you need is a small amount of leftover yarn.

Perfect for beginners with basic skills.

Designing Patterns: How Do You Do It?

For me, it’s mostly a matter of learning by doing.

First, I sketch out a pattern—including the colors—of how I want it to look when finished. Then I just start knitting a swatch. Interestingly, this often leads to completely new pattern combinations, and I’m surprised by the results myself. I’d call this intuitive knitting.

It gets a little complicated sometimes when I have to convert it to the correct dimensions for my project. Then it comes down to: How many stitches are in the pattern? What number does it need to be divisible by? And how can I distribute that across the entire project? For example, where do I knit this pattern—all over or just in certain sections? And if I’m using a pattern only in a small section, it has to fit exactly. I have to calculate that precisely beforehand.

Since I already have a gauge swatch, the math becomes much easier.

Poll: Do you do crafts every day or less often?

Hihi, that’s how it is for me, too. :)
I often sit in the evening watching movies while knitting or crocheting, and sometimes I get around to it during the day, too. But when I finish something and don’t know what to work on next, I immediately feel “naked” without needles in my hands. My husband is amazed by that, too.

So, yes, I have needles in my hands every day, even if it’s just for a short while.

Yes, Sandra, the cake tastes great even without almonds and nuts. You could also sprinkle it with shredded coconut. Or leave it out entirely—I’ve tried that too.

What I also love about this cake is the thin, crispy crust. :-)

Heinzelmännchen Tuesday: Are you fit and hard at work?

I’m going to spend this afternoon doing crafts—partly knitting, and partly writing patterns. I’ve got quite a bit to catch up on.

I was at the market early this morning. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to cozy up in the living room, so it all fits together perfectly.

Before that, I’m going to bake some snack sticks using Sandra’s recipe. I’ll have them in between with a cup of hot tea.

Unraveling Monster Thread: What have you unraveled and why?

I had to unravel a large section of the vest for my husband twice because I’d forgotten to work in the buttonholes.

The other time, in my eagerness, I’d knitted much too far and forgotten to shape the armholes.

Well ... all in all, I probably knitted 1 1/2 skeins twice over.
