Yarn Swap Package 3/2023 Is on Its Way

Here is the new thread:
Yarn Swap Package 3/2023 Is on Its Way, Part 2.

Hello everyone,

since yesterday, the swap package has been on its way!

Maria can now be the first to look forward to the surprise package. I put lots of lovely things in it. We'll see whether it gets adopted, and by whom. I'm excited.

One more note for the newcomers: Put this thread on your watchlist and follow along with the package. That way you'll always know where it is at the moment and, much more importantly, when it's with you. After the yarn bath, everyone posts
a picture of their new treasures. You're welcome to comment on that. The yarn you put in
doesn't have to be shown—that's meant to be a surprise for the people after you.
Please always keep an eye on the wishes of the people after you and try to take them into account if you can. If there are any questions, just ask. You can also message me personally.

I now wish us all lots of fun discovering, admiring, swapping, and yarn bathing.

Warm regards from Ina

Here is the order again:

Maria (maria-zielassny)
Andrea (Bastelfan)
Ulrike (Bogenraus)
Katharina (Katharinas-Handarbeiten)
Marita (Leoniera)
Martina (matap)
Steffi (Woll-zauberei-Steffi)
Sannii (sanniischm)
Robine (robine-vanderdoes)
Susanne (Grinseline63)
Marlies (dievomdeich)
Monika (mowi19)
Ina (Schnuckelina)

I’m so excited…😊
and I’ll probably have plenty of time to follow along now, since I managed to put myself out of action this morning….

I wanted to quickly take something down to the dark basement without my slippers 🙈, dropped a glass bottle on the way, and stepped on it.

Unfortunately, I had to get stitches, and now I’m sitting here and can hardly do anything…

Oh please, could someone—or you, dear Ina—tell me how I can add this thread to my watchlist?

When you write a reply, there’s a field labeled “Notify me of replies” below, above the “Add comment” button.... Just check the box, and you’ll get an email notification when someone has written something about it....
I hope you feel better soon and that you at least have enough yarn in the house. If you’re not supposed to walk around with it, you could at least sit comfortably on the sofa and do some “needlework”....

Wow, that’s a huge package. I’m really looking forward to it too, and I’ll let you know how it goes when I get back. Then you can fit me in somewhere.

I’ll be home continuously from September 25 onward.

I hope you all have lots of fun and enjoy a thorough yarn bath!

Warm regards

Dear Katharina,

luckily your little fingers aren’t affected ;-)
The cut on your foot will heal soon if you’re good and don’t put any weight on it. Get well soon!

Steffi’s tip was very helpful: By checking the “Notify me when there’s a reply” box below your comment, you won’t miss a thing.

Warm regards, Ina

Thank you all so much for the info and the well-wishes.

Luckily, I have plenty of yarn at home—and a few unfinished projects, too…🙈😏

I’ve already told my husband, “Thank goodness it’s my left foot… I could still sew with my right one.”🙈😃

Once the pain eases up a bit…

Hi, I had a big surprise at lunchtime today. Instead of the package from the mail-order pharmacy, a huge package of yarn arrived. It’s all over the dining room. I’m having a hard time choosing, but it’ll be on its way again by Saturday.
I wish you all a relaxing weekend, a speedy recovery to those who are sick, and lots of fun tracking the package.

I’m glad your daughter joined you in making the selection.
Just out of curiosity: Did you pick out the yarns in the first picture, and does the second picture—with the open box—show what Andrea can look forward to?

Hi everyone,
The yarn package arrived today faster than expected.
As requested, there was plenty of sock yarn and cotton yarn inside.

I took some right away. Thank you very much. It will continue its journey on Monday (the post office is already closed today)

Hi Ulrike,

that went really fast!
And you found sooo much—congratulations! The sock yarn and cotton yarn should keep you busy all winter.

But I also tried to include the yarns requested by the ladies coming after me. I hope you’ll do the same, so everyone can enjoy their package.

Warm regards, Ina

The sock yarn is for my mother (92 years old).
Due to health reasons, she can’t do much anymore, so knitting socks is her main activity. The finished socks are then donated to social projects.

The cotton is more for me—I’ll be crocheting lots of colorful little birds and other animals with it. ..

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to double-check the exact order so I know when to expect the package. The excitement is building, of course.

Wow, Bogenraus, that was quick. I would’ve kept the yarns in the bag, too.
Let’s see what treasures arrive for me. I have Monday and Tuesday off.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Did something go wrong here? Because I received the tracking number via private message, but the package ended up at “Bogenraus.” I’m a little confused.

Dear Andrea,

I checked again.
Yes, you are right — according to the listing here on CP, you would have been No. 2 on the list:

BUT when the table was created, the order got a little mixed up. You unintentionally ended up in 5th place now. And Steffi and Sannischm have also swapped places. Well, what can I say. I take full blame for that. I’m very sorry. I hope everyone involved can live with their place on the list in the package
.

What matters is the list that is inside the package. Accordingly, Bogenraus should have addressed the package to Katharinas-Handarbeiten.

Hello everyone,
These are such beautiful things that you’ll be adding to your collections. I’m sitting this one out because I still have sooooo much to finish (for the grandkids, the fire department market in December, etc.), and my husband would probably kill me if I brought home more yarn. But I’m following along and am happy for you all.
Warm regards and best of luck

Yes, that’s well put, Ina. Window shopping while peeking into people’s shopping bags—great.
I’m absolutely thrilled to see everything that’s found new owners so far. Starting Monday of next week, I’ll be back home and would love to squeeze in somewhere in between. For me, that wouldn’t just be a yarn bath, but more like a relaxing yarn bath after a busy week.

I hope you all continue to have lots of fun sending, yarn bathing, choosing, and working up these treasures. My anticipation is definitely growing with these glimpses.

Warm regards, Monika

My dears…😊

Of course, I understand that you’re impatient…😏
My daily routine is still very much centered around the kids…

But…. The package arrived this afternoon.🤗
I was so happy and looked through everything with my little daughter (age 5)…

it was really hard to choose—my daughter wanted to keep so many things.🙈😃
I’ll post a photo of what we picked tomorrow morning, in daylight.

I’m going to print out the shipping label now and have my husband drop off the package tomorrow at noon.

Oh Katharina, that’s so nice that your little daughter got to help pick them out. It must have been a great experience—so much yarn all at once. I can totally imagine that it was hard for you to choose. I’m sure your daughter will have some requests about what you can knit or crochet for her.

I’m really looking forward to seeing your photo. It feels somehow extra special this time.

Warm regards from Monika—still in Kiel, where it’s still summery this week

I have a few ideas—or rather, requests from my daughter—but I’m not sure yet if I can make them happen exactly as she wants.

With the Rainbow Bobbel yarn, she’d like a dress or a shirt.
I think that’s doable.

The Ecopuno yarn is trickier. It’s absolutely beautiful and soft, but it’ll definitely curl at the hems.

And with the blue, turquoise, and silver-white yarn, I’m thinking of making a loop scarf.

I’m really looking forward to seeing your selections.😊

Hi Katharina, please forgive my impatience. But since the package arrived so quickly the last few times (it was just within Bavaria, after all), I forgot that mail simply takes longer to travel across Germany.
Your selection is great—your daughter gave you some great advice.
I wish you and your whole family a wonderful weekend and hope you enjoy working with your new treasures. Here, it’s just gray skies and rain. But at least we can knit and crochet.

Dear Katharina,
You did a great job for your first time!

After reading your post, I could picture both of you—you and your little daughter—in my mind’s eye, rummaging through the package together. Kids have such a wonderful sense of wonder. You can also make really cute pom-pom animals out of yarn or little dolls...

You found some really lovely things! With some yarns, you know right away that you want to keep them. What you’ll make with them only becomes clear later. Just save them for now.

The Bobel yarn has beautiful, vibrant colors—perfect for kids’ clothes. And your daughter will watch you every day as her garment takes shape. Maybe a twirly skirt?

The thick blue-gray-silver yarn is mine. I knitted a hat and a loop scarf out of it years ago. Do you just have that one new skein, or do you also have the wound ball of the same yarn? That was in the package, too. Together, there’d be more—and of course, it’d be better.

Best regards, Ina

For a little girl, rummaging through sooo much yarn is surely almost an adventure, Katharina. You two have made a lovely selection, and with a shirt made from that fantastic bobble yarn, the little one is sure to look chic. Have fun working with it.

Marita, I hope you have lots of fun “bathing” in the yarn, too. I’m already excited to see what treasures you find.

Warm regards,

Hi Katharina, check out YouTube—there’s a video on how to bind off without curling. You insert the needle from the back into the third stitch from the top, pull the yarn up, knit it together with that stitch, and then pull the previous stitch over. It might still curl a little at first, but it’ll be fine after washing.

Thanks so much for the tip…

though I usually start with the hem and bind off at the top of the shoulders.

But with a skirt, you’d end with the hem and bind off accordingly.

I haven’t made a skirt yet…

Dear Ina, yes, I have that wound-up ball of yarn too.
It just kept rolling off my chair, so I left it out of the photo…
That should be plenty for an infinity scarf or scarf.

Dear Marita,
have fun picking out your yarn.
I can’t wait to see it….😃

Well, my dears,
I won’t keep you in suspense any longer.

Here’s my selection.
I packed it up and swapped things back and forth. It wasn’t that easy after all 😂
I’ll seal it up later, and I hope I can make it to the post office tomorrow. I have to go to the day clinic first (just a blood test) and can’t take care of it until then. The post office hours here are really lousy.
But maybe I can talk my husband into it.
Thanks for the lovely swap, and I’m excited to see what you guys pick out.

Dear Marita,
you picked out some lovely things too.
I would have liked Katharina’s pink yarn as well. I do like bold colors too.

You also have some that has traveled a long way—namely from China. The natural white one on the left in the picture. It’s made of bamboo with cotton. It knits or crochets up nicely—they just unfortunately sent me the wrong color. I used it in white for my doll furniture and was very impressed. Then I wanted to order more, but white isn’t always the same white—and in China there are no color numbers in the form of numbers on the labels. That’s how it ended up in the swap package and is now with you.

I hope you have lots of fun with your new treasures.

Hi Ina, and everyone,
that’s great—now I know the fiber content, too.
In any case, the white yarn really caught my eye. It feels absolutely lovely. I’m not sure yet what I’ll make with it.
As for the others, I’m pretty sure—sock yarn, right? But maybe something else too, like… oh man, I can’t think of it right now… oh yeah, a Noose. I’ve already made one. It’s so much fun. The black one will probably go into a Drachenkarl. The acrylic yarn is for Ü Ei figures. So anyway, I’m all set for now.
We didn’t make it to the post office today. The package will be on its way tomorrow morning.

Hi there, dear yarn lovers,

I had no idea where the package was right now.
The mailman just rang my doorbell, and lo and behold, the swap package is here. Hooray!

But you’ll have to be patient for a few more days. I have to head to my late shift right away, and I won’t be able to browse through it in peace until later.
This is how it arrived at my place.

Hugs from me

Yeah, I know what you mean—the postal service really roughs up the packages. We often get packages from the mail that are damaged. In general, the postal service here is anything but reliable. We haven’t had that problem with Hermes so far.

I’m sure someone will donate a big box where the yarn can find a new home.

Andrea, have fun unpacking and picking out your favorites.

Hello everyone, I’m bursting with curiosity.
Yes, the postal service—or rather, DHL—is absolutely terrible and unreliable here, too. While the packages usually look better, unfortunately they hardly ever ring the doorbell anymore; instead, they just drop them off at the package stations.
It’s only about 2 km on foot—and with a walker—to get there.
But that doesn’t dampen my excitement.
Especially since a knitting machine is also unexpectedly arriving here in about 3 weeks.

Dear Andrea, have fun choosing.
Hopefully you still have a whole roll of tape so the box can stay on the road for a while longer.
It arrived here in one piece.
Have a great week, everyone, and above all, patience while waiting for the mail.
Maria

It was the same with the last package—it only held together because of dozens of rolls of tape, but then someone donated a new box after all.

....I’m already looking for a suitable box 🙈 if this one lasts that long...
I’m so curious to see what Andrea has adopted...

.....let’s see what the box looks like, if it reaches me. Maybe I’ll even find another one myself.
I’m just sooooo excited about the whole thing... :-))

Hi there,

here’s an update. It wasn’t that easy to choose among all the yarns.
I’ll drop off the package tomorrow.

Here’s what I picked out.

To everyone else after me: have fun browsing!

Hugs, Andrea

Wow, Andrea, what amazing yarns you’ve picked out! 😍 I would have chosen exactly the same ones.
Do you already have plans for them? I hope you have lots of fun working with them.
Best wishes, Marlies

Hi Andrea, your selection is great. I would have kept the red and colorful one, too. Have fun working with it.

The colorful red-and-yellow one is beautiful; do you already know what you're going to make with it, Andrea?
Best regards

I also had the Alize yarn in my hands, just like the Bobbel. I think I swapped both of them back and forth three times. The colorful one is mine. I’m glad it found a new home.

Oh Andrea, I would have been happy about that too. Especially the package with the 10 colorful skeins—I could have really used that. And I would have kept the yarn cake as well.

Knowing you, you’ll work your magic and create beautiful crocheted items from it. I’m really excited to see what you’ll make, especially with the colorful yarn.

I hope you have a lot of fun with it.

No wonder it feels like fall here starting today—weather-wise, at least. And it’s all because Andrea now has enough yarn to curl up comfortably on the couch. Some beautiful yarns have found a new home with you. The big skein with the delicate colors came from my stash. I thought the color gradients were very subtly and gently beautiful—BUT they’re just not my colors. I’m glad you’re enjoying it now.

Could you tell me what the yardage is for the colorful yarn and what material it’s made of?

Warm regards to everyone—Ina

thank you all.

Ina, the colorful yarn "Mama Mia" is 100% cotton, yardage 120 m/50 g. Your pretty yarn cake might become a shawl or a narrow scarf.
With me, that happens spontaneously. Maybe a c2c blanket from the colorful yarn. No idea.
Then there’s also mosaic technique. So it won’t get boring.

best wishes
Andrea

P.S. first I have to get back on my feet. Recover from a bad cold.

It’s so quiet here. Where’s our package?
Dear Matap, have you received it yet and locked yourself away with it over the weekend?
